When you’ve lost Herbie…

This was definitely not the hot take I was expecting.

Not that anyone’s gonna listen.

Love it when Agent Herbstreit is capitalizing tweeted words, means he is screaming at his wireless device…

  2. Two broken clocks were right at the same time. Lord, it’s a miracle!

Fields may have beaten out Fromm in 2019 if he had stuck around, but he didn’t. Chaney’s refusal to let Fields run the offense, Kirby’s fake punt and the aftermath from all of that didn’t help.

He didn’t leave because of a fake punt. Jesus. He left because he didn’t beat Fromm for it outright in 2018, and he didn’t want to ride pine for two more years to then have a single year to prove himself for NFL scouts.

Maybe he could have been convinced to make the extremely dumb decision to stick around if Chaney played him more, but you call games to win, not to keep your backup happy.

      • I said from the beginning that Fields left because he was led to believe Fromm was staying 4 years and that the baseball player gave him his reason to leave and be immediately eligible. I’m also convinced Ryan Day was in his personal QB coach’s ear (the same guy who worked with Newman) from the LSU game onward to convince him to come to anOSU. Kirby’s decision to run the fake and then blame the outcome on Fields’s execution probably cemented the decision to transfer. That’s my opinion and, of course, YMMV.

        Pablo was Fields major problem.

I remember the first time Tebow tried to run the ball on 3rd and short during the NFL pre-season. Went about as well as you’d expect.

  4. This is just a back handed way to keep the Fromm-Fields conversation alive and get eyes/comments on your Twitter feed. Way to go Herbie.

Meh, you can start counting the minutes until they do a 180 turn and be right back to arguing Kirby was wrong.

“All world potential that looks great in practice” is a dime a dozen. QB’s who are proven under fire and have taken your team to the national championship are not. Crystal balls are undefeated.

    • I would add that rear-view mirrors are also undefeated.

I also think Fromm having two years left was a huge deal for the coaches and FIelds in making their decisions. It was a huge surprise when Fromm declared early. We sure could have used a rebounding Fromm with healthy receivers in 2020.

MGW, I agree. However, I think the atmosphere around Dawg Nation had become so toxic for him (and probably his family) due to the Fromm-Fields debate that Fromm decided he needed to move on.

I have always wondered if Fromm lost a lot of the locker room in 2019, when he seemed to struggle while Fields took TOSU to the playoff. There didn’t seem to be much reaction when he bailed, and almost no one defended him when the phone recording controversy popped up later. I have zero info, just wondered from what I saw and heard.

        • I get this, however: had Fromm stayed around for 2020, he would have had to square with the leaked DMs. So I think it was probably best he was gone.

The narrative is the narrative when it comes to Fromm and Fields, and if it wasn’t our own fanbase keeping alive this wrong train of thought, there’s nothing the media likes more than an easily repeatable narrative they can beat into the ground. No matter how wrong.

Fromm vs Fields became a racial debate. People were saying UGA wouldn’t start a black QB. What a joke.

It seems pretty obvious that Smart made a mistake in how he handled Fields.

He probably knows it much the same way that Richt knew he messed up with Knowshon.

The amazing thing about Smart is that he is so good at recruiting that he actually is getting another chance with QB who was right behind Fields.

It’s a pretty great story, but UGA fans seem to want to die on the hill that Smart didnt make a mistake.

Dude, everyone knows that going with Fields would have almost certainly turned out better for Georgia….. because we all got to sit back and see how it played out.

AT THE TIME, the only people who had any confidence whatsoever that benching Fromm was a good idea are message board crazies and pot stirring talking heads who are constantly placing inordinate value on unproven players. The odds of Fields actually panning out were less than 50%. The odds that would happen AND Fromm would tank the next year were next to zero.

DJ Shockley?!! Or D’Wan Mathis, even though it didn’t work out for him.

Quincy Carter and DJ Shockley might also have something to say about that.

    • It wasn’t until the dipshit baseball player’s comments came out. From that point it was, but it’s not realistic to think it wasn’t going to be.

Plenty of blame to go around.

Funny, but we never hear this shit about how Urban let Joe Burrow walk in favor of Dwane Haskins. In the end, Jake Fromm has as many CFP wins as Fields does. Not sure what all the fuss is about.
