Yeah, the Big 12 got a resounding vote of confidence yesterday.
On the one hand, Phillips said this about the Big 12: “We want and need the Big 12 to do well. The Big 12 matters in college athletics. The Big 12 matters in Power 5 athletics, and our FBS group. And so I can just tell you that we’ll be watching what occurs here.”
So why not include the Big 12 as part of this new alliance?
“At the time that we got together, there was great instability,” Phillips said. “Is the Big 12 going to be together? Are they going to join another conference? Are they going to lose members? What is the end game? And I think the three of us felt like we had stability in our leagues. And that is what the enterprise, I think, would benefit most [from].”
Might want to start work on updating that resume, Bob.
Maybe Bob can get a job like Butch Jones and be Greg Sankey’s car washer/coffee fetcher/door opener.

Soooo, you’re telling me the sec commish has a rehab program for ad’s…what a novel idea, a place to go for peeps with no general idea, willy nilly with other peoples cash and believe they are the smartest in the room and nothing more to say than a pet rock…capital, I say…

If they had any sense at all they’d be acknowledging what’s going on and facilitate a merger with the AAC, stat. But the pearl-clutching about being above the pay grade of schools such as…Houston! Cincinnati! will result in the Big 12 getting what it deserves, which is Baylor (among others, but most appropriately, IMO) left high and dry.

The problem is the merger of the AAC and the remainder of the Big 12-4 is still a Group of 5 league in the minds of the media rights buyers. I think that would be very good for Iowa State and Oklahoma State’s playoff prospects in the short term. I saw something yesterday that had Kansas and Iowa State heading to the B1G. Ok State and K-State head to the Pac 12. West Virginia potentially to the ACC (doubtful). TCU, Baylor and Texas Tech likely headed to a G5 league.

I’d enjoy Baylor being relegated to Liberty’s league, as they belong together. Maybe we’ll see that happen eventually.

“At the time we got together, there was great instability.”
That quote makes no sense. There “was” great instability two weeks ago, but not now? Why not help ensure some stability by including the conference that just got eviscerated and is looking for life support?
I could give a shit about these other conferences (or our own conference, fwiw), but geez.

The Big 12 should do two things ASAP: (1) Extend offers to Houston and UCF or Cincinnati; and (2) Pursue an alliance with the SEC for OOC games.

(1) doesn’t move the needle, financially speaking, and why would the SEC want (2)?

Houston and Central Florida are big TV markets. Cincinnati less so but gives a foothold in Ohio for recruiting. As for (2) I said that’s what the Big 12 should—I didn’t say the SEC would do it.

None of those city-based AAC schools have anywhere near the financial muscle of the schools with entire-state-based fanbases/tv markets.

I liken Bowlsby’s current situation to that of an Afghan interpreter running for a plane. Sure, people have some small level of appreciation for his services, but where he’ll end up landing is anyone’s guess.

Classy…….. “where he’ll end up landing is anyone’s guess.”
Kind of like the Afghan that fell from the airplane and died?
Tell us how you feel about “leaders” abandoning its citizens behind enemy lines, ya prick.

Jeebus! First of all, I didn’t say shit about a guy who falls off trying to ride on the outside of a jet. Second, nobody believes you actually give a shit about an Afghan interpreter. And third, get a girlfriend, or failing that, a boyfriend.

“What? Ha ha, no… it’s good for us if the Big 12 dies. We just want to make sure they don’t destroy us. What if USC, Ohio State, Clemson, FSU, Oregon, and Michigan decide they want to do the same thing OU and Texas did to the Big 12? Well…. this is a gentleman’s agreement…. I mean they said they wouldn’t, so… uh…..”
