This is the latest “We painted the bathrooms!” while ignoring, you know, the plumbing, fixtures, size, and only one door actual problems.

I don’t see this as even a small victory, just more lipstick on a pig by a newish AD who has so far proven to be every bit his daddy’s (McGarity) boy.

How about you demolish the current ring of concession stands and bathrooms on the 100 level and then rebuild them around the outer, upper-deck struts of the stadium so you can not only improve the concessions and bathrooms by modernizing them, but you also more than double the size of the right now cramped interior walk way that stinks of piss on hot game days?

How about that, Josh? Keep your Zaxby’s ice and DO SOMETHING REAL!!!

You have proof the current stadium infrastructure will support this? It’s not like enclosing your garage.

Well, maybe they need to improve the “infrastructure” too… They shut down the concession stands behind the student section 5-10 years ago (because they created ginormous bottlenecks), and all that space just looks wasted, for one…. The East End Zone is a disaster…

Heaven forbid, it just might take a Tech graduate to redesign the thing!! How revolting!

Have you ever been to Bobby Dodd? That’s the most poorly-designed stadium I’ve ever been to when it comes to moving people around. It took us over half an hour to get from one side of the stadium to the other at a Rolling Stones concert one time, and getting food or a coke always takes at least a quarter when Georgia is playing there and the stadium is actually full.

It’s not a bad suggestion necessarily, but I think you’re underestimating the work involved. Changing up the plumbing systems may not be cost-prohibitive from a equipment and piping perspective, but you’ll need to cut open the walls, slabs, etc to access waste/vent/domestic (sink) water piping risers and headers. Always a risk to cut through walls in old buildings. Moving the concessions and bathrooms to a different level sounds great, except those pipe risers are gravity fed and sized for the existing flow rate – meaning they’d need to replace them from the top down to account for the increased load at a higher elevation.

Assuming you’re OK with the cost associated with those changes, expanding the 100-level causeway is an enormous challenge. You can’t just demo walls and call it a day – many of those walls are likely to be load-bearing because of the outdated design standards applied during the original construction. Game day sees an occupancy increase of 90k+. Call it 200lbs/person, and you’re talking about 18m pounds of force to account for. You start shifting walls around, and you’ll need to reinforce and/or divert load accordingly.

Considering the cost associated with these changes, the inherent uncertainty of working in an old building, and the phasing required to complete the project between seasons, a “minor” renovation like you’re proposing would require years worth of feasibility analysis before you could even start the design process, much less construction.

Of course, when you consider the massive increase in athletic facilities spending in the last 5 years (west end zone, butts-mehre, IPF, tennis grandstands, soccer press box, etc) it’s entirely possible that they are already working on this (or something similar).

The reasons you’ve stated are factual and the costs would be very high.

This is my reason for why this renovation has never been done. The first question asked after what is the cost would be what is our ROI on said expenditure? Did you say $0 dollars OK next subject please.

Wow, this is attention to detail even Kirby would envy.

More realistically, some flunky is walking from ice machine to ice machine in Sanford slapping Zaxby stickers on the side of each unit.

Zaxby’s chipped ice is pretty good. On a slightly related subject, I’m building a new house. Stand alone ice makers are the latest thing. A machine just to make chipped ice like Zaxby’s was $1000 more than the refrigerator we picked out. We declined.

Stand alone ice makers are a thing because most all of the new refrigerators have shitty ice makers installed now. They supply about 1/3rd the ice that older ones can.

I don’t have a problem with the amount of ice produced by modern refrigerators, but whoever designed it so the ice is rounded on one side and creates a perfect little drink dam should be forced to watch PAC-12 football on Fox. Nothing pisses me off like trying to drink from a glass only to be denied because the frigging ice is blocking the cold liquid from my mouth.

A quick google tells you that many of the newer ones have tiny ice bins..freeze up etc…

But yeah, the crescent cube been around a while…mine has a huge removable ice bin…but it’s 10+ years old…my son’s new Whirlpool, barely freezes enough ice for 3-4 drinks..he bought a counter top model that makes pretty cool round cubes for around a $100 at Costco..just add water, it blows the $2500 refrigerator away re ice.

Mine dumps and misses the ice bin about 1/3 of the time and it fall all the way to the bottom of the freezer and hits every damn thing on the way down. Loud as hell at 3 AM. Then every time I open the freezer ice slides out into the floor, what gt grad designed this piece of crap?

          • Y’all need to do it like my dad used to. Fill up an empty gallon milk jug with water and freeze it in the deep freeze in the garage next to the frozen bass and crappie filets. Then when you need extra ice, you just bash the shit out of the gallon jug. Boom. Free ice.

I was always nervous about which carton was just ice and which carton held the crappie. Crappie flavored sweet tea is awful.

Rabbit ice for the win! A friend of mine spent $5K to get his own rabbit ice machine and maintains it was worth every penny. I’m content getting my rabbit ice fix either at Zaxby’s, Steak & Shake or Sprayberry’s BBQ. Adding Sanford to the list.

I’m confused. Ice is frozen water right? Is there another recipe I’m missing? Is Zaxby ice chicken-flavored? Rabbit ice rabbit? I can’t keep up with this new-fangled world. I’ll just keep filling up my plastic trays and putting them in the freezer thank you.

So what you are saying is. When I order a coke, like at Zaxby’s, I’ll have 90% Ice 10% Coke. Way to promote evil as a positive UGA.

Every time I have been to Zaxby’s (dine in) I get to make my own drink. So if you have 90% ice and 10% Coke, look in the mirror for who’s responsible for that.

This is a great step, and should be celebrated, but only as a step. It doesn’t solve every problem, but at least it solves one problem and they did it (I hope) without paying for a study and/or waiting until they could do more than one thing as a major renovation. I am actually encouraged by the fact that while this was an easy fix, they didn’t wait. Maybe there will be more such things.

I must admit I never noticed anything about the ice at Sanford Stadium. Probably because I don’t make it a habit to wait in long ass lines for anything, especially a coke (I have noticed the long ass lines and the nasty bathrooms!).
