What the Year of the Quarterback means at South Carolina

I don’t know if this is an SEC first, but dayum.

What a start, indeed.  I wonder if he’ll be the starter when the ‘Cocks come to Athens for game three.

Player / coach has to be an SEC first. Kordell “Slash” Stewart 2.0?

Really, who was the last player/coach in any sport? Bill Russell? Connie Mack?

The last that I remember was Pete Rose finishing the 84 season as the Reds player/manager

Brings to mind Ted Turner stepping in for Dave Bristol to manage 1 game.

Can’t think of an owner ever doing that.

And if I remember correctly, the commissioner (Kuhn) was none too happy about that. Ted got a sever tongue lashing.
After the 38-year-old Turner put on a Braves uniform and stepped into the dugout to manage his tanking team for one game on May 11, 1977, National League president Chub Feeney, supported by baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn, gave him the thumb. Anyone who owned stock in a team was forbidden to manage it, they told him.

“They must have put that rule in yesterday,” Turner told a reporter the next day. “If I’m smart enough to save $11 million to buy the team, I ought to be smart enough to manage it.”

The most interesting thing about that was he bought them for $11 Million. You can’t get a bench player for that now days. Today they are valued around $1.8 BILLION. I need to find me an investment like that.

Dave Cowens and Mike Dunleavey (temporarily) were the last NBA. Dan Reeves may have been the last in the NFL?

        Perhaps Johnny Evers?

        Martin Prado with the Marlins?

Ron Calabrese almost QB’d for Denver last year before the league made them start a practice squad WR.

If he’s still starting in Athens, then Zeb’s dead, baby. Zeb’s dead.

Wait… didn’t Zeb Nolan play at Oconee County? LOL. OC has two starting QBs in the SEC.

We don’t really know how good Zeb is. He played behind a first round draft pick. He might be another Mac Jones for all we know.

Considering the mountains of rules about eligibility, roster limits, income, etc., it seems odd the ncaa would allow a grad assistant switch to be a player, particularly on short notice. Beamer, of all people, may have discovered a loophole in the rule book.

It will be difficult to have less success than DM had starting game 1 in 2020 at Arkansas. Given their opponent they shouldn’t need much.

The current cock hc saw boom get an exit check, “why not me”…it’s not a race to bottom, it’s a friggin’ free fall…

From the that dumpster fire of a program on Rocky Top to that cess pool in Columbia the race to the bottom of the SEC is on. Vandy’s new coach will be hard pressed to maintain their cellar dweller status.

In the last 20 years, for some reason, South Carolina has always played us tough in Athens, especially when they weren’t supposed to. The only years we really put it on them during that span was 2003 and 2015. There is no excuse this year for us to not pound them into submission.

he should negotiate an NIL deal with a temp agency.

I get the feeling SC might not even finish the year and Beamer could get run out of town by thanksgiving.
