Your (non-Dawg) game day post

Here is today’s watchable feast.

Lots of games.  Lots of cupcakes, too, unfortunately.

If I find a sports bar today, I’ll try to check in on a few things.  Alabama-Miami, obviously.  LSU-UCLA is something I’ll watch when I get back.  I’m a little curious to see if Texas has any trouble handling Louisiana.

Anything else there catch your eye?

  2. We’re in Southend and watched the Va Tech game at Mack’s Speed Shop and it was a great spot. Probably watching the noon games there and steadily move north towards the stadium as the day goes. Anyway, if you go to the speed shop, get the wings. Some of the best smoked wings I’ve ever had.

Senator, let me know if you need a rec for a place to watch depending on what part of town you’re at

Looking forward to the Ragin Cajuns sawing the horns of Texas. Not necessarily a Louisiana fan, just hate the T-sips (and any other orange team).

Eastern Illinois at South Carolina. It’s on a half hour before our game so I can’t see much of it.
I’m just curious to see what South Carolina is like with their graduate assistant coach playing QB. I have no idea how bad EI is, but South Carolina is such a crazy mess that anything could happen. Watching will be sort of like walking through the medium at an old county fair and wondering about the freak shows.

EIU won two D2 National Championships under Darrell “Dr. Victory” Mudra. He coached from the press box!

““You learn to watch a game from some point of view and my experience has been from the press box. My perception, I believe, is more, accurate from up there. You can make the decisions on who is playing well and who is not playing well.

“A lot of people feel there is a mysterious thing that happens on the sidelines where a coach can jump in to the huddle and say, ‘Let’s go get ‘em men,’ and then something happens to the team. I just don’t believe that. What, you do all week and what you do all summer and , all spring in preparation are the things you have to do to have a successful team. If it was just a matter of getting into sideline huddle, it would be great. The rest of the time you could go fishing.”

Mudra then said, “Besides, I’ve coached in North Dakota and Canada and we’ve had some horrible, weather up there and it’s always nicer in the press box.”

State Penn has 1 first down in the first half against Wisky. I think there was less than 250 of total offense in the first half. Nobody can score, kind of fun though. Both defenses been making plays and the badgers use a lot of I formation with a fullback, so that’s nice.

Maths final stats: 8 of 24 for 148 yards with no TDS and 1 INT. Also 6 yards rushing on 9 attempts which I think means he was sacked some. Losing 61-14 to Rutgers has to hurt.

Wait, the AL kicker is named “Will Riker”? They should just call him “number 1”, right?

The way this first quarter has gone for AL is kind of how I expect us to look tonight. Problem is, I have no reason other than “gut” to think it.

It appears to be Bama’s world and we’re just living in it. Holy shit they look ridiculous. I kind of believed it would be a game into the third Q and Bama would pull away. This looks like Miami isn’t even a P5 program nearing halftime.

LSU line play looks pretty weak. UCLA running through them.
