It’s a mystery.

I have no freakin’ idea what’s going on here.

JT Daniels‘ status for Georgia’s home opener against UAB on Saturday is in question. According to persons with knowledge of the situation, Daniels is dealing with an injury to his core, likely ribs or oblique.

Those same sources indicate that the injury isn’t long-term but that Daniels is truly day to day for the time being. He practiced on Monday but did not get in much work at all on Tuesday with Carson Beck getting a large portion of the first-team reps. If Daniels is unable to play against UAB, a decision that has not yet been made according to sources, Beck would likely get the start.

Sounds concerning, right?  In fact, makes you wonder if it affected Daniels’ ability to throw the ball deep in the Clemson game.  (Weiszer reports that it’s “something that may have lingered from the preseason”.)

But here’s a direct quote that paints a different picture.

I can’t imagine Smart feels like he needs to play head games with UAB, so what gives here?

I will say that if JT is indeed nicked up, there’s no need to let him play Saturday.  But “if” may be doing some heavy lifting there.  Ordinarily we’d wait to see how Kirby addresses this in his next presser, except that’s not scheduled until Saturday.  Hey, at least now we’ve got a compelling reason to watch the game!

After UAB there’s a 5 game grind of SEC ball. Mabey Kirby is on the side of caution with Daniels. Great chance for Beck to get in game reps.

If Beck struggles against UAB after year 2 in the system at least we probably know he isn’t the guy. On the flip side if he looks excellent, then what do you do the next game??

      Biggen,
If another QB played excellent Saturday it would be like Fromm over Eason for Kirby. Results not seniority are all that matters based on past performance.

This entire JT’s health issue has seemed very strange since it’s begun to filter outside of BM. We all want a QB to take control of the position and become the man. Hopefully it’s all a nothing burger we quickly forget about. Until then my inner Munson is growing louder with thoughts I dare not think.

I told somebody the same thing yesterday when I saw the injury news come in that this has the Fromm/Eason storyline all over it.

But then we have news snippets that JTD is still practicing with the 1s so how hurt can he really be if he is still practicing? Guess we will find out soon enough.

Eason was out for multiple games; by the time he was cleared to return, Fromm had beaten ND, et al. and had the team rolling. I would love to see Carson get a full game in, but beating one FCS team the week after Daniels beat Clemson isn’t going to move the needle much in his direction.

    • I certainly haven’t been impressed with anything but is arm strength. His decision making and the confidence he can get us in the right protections not so much.

  4. I’m guessing whatever happened preseason was aggravated by that late sack when JT took a big hit in the rib area.

Play him, get a big lead, and get Beck and Vandagriff some live reps.

Hopefully the defense can score 21 points early, and the offense can take the day off

Now that Clemson is behind them Kirby needs to work on fixing the OL, coaching up the young WRs, and developing a 2nd string QB incase Daniels can’t play.

I haven’t been very impressed with the latest crop of west coast 5 star QBs. Eason, Ukelele and Daniels aren’t the caliber of Watson, Rapunzel and even Fromm. Those young men were almost SEC ready straight out of high school.

    • I would throw Davis Mills in there, too. The only reason he didn’t play at Stanford earlier is that he got hurt in the state title game his senior year and was rehabbing for the next 12 months.

Yeah, I don’t know who that is. But I did watch Got Cowdog chew up the head of an iron maiden at 100 yards with an ACOG mounted AR15 with two mags as if he actually knew how to shoot Tuesday afternoon.
        😉

Davis Mills is from GA, not CA (GAC – Norcross). He is 2nd string for the NFL Texans now though. I get what y’all are saying, but the WC QB play is still pretty good. Bryce Young i& Justin Herbert included of course. But GA QBs have has a great run nationally too IMO the last 7 years.

Our west coast guy is now 6-0, with a win over number 3 Clemson. I’m impressed.

Sitting JTD this weekend largely depends on how good they feel about Beck. Even if it is UAB.

I want JT to play. He needs the reps and the experience of running the full play book before we go into the SEC schedule. Let the backups play if and when we’re blowing out teams in the second half.

If I am JT, no way I don’t play unless they won’t give me a helmet and pads. I wouldn’t want anyone to step in and play unless I am so injured that I am physically unable to perform.

So who’s number 3? If JT is injured (which I have great doubts about), number 3 becomes number 2. That’s kind of important. At least this year there are plenty of good options.

I would think the third QB is Bennett

If it’s a rib injury it is not good. If it a muscle issue give him a shot and pull tighter on the flank jacket. If he can throw he goes.
