Game day post, here there be Dragons edition

Seth Emerson has some “everybody calm the fuck down” wisdom for the fan base this morning.

I suspect they’re both gonna play today.  For that matter, if Daniels wakes up this morning and feels like he can go, it wouldn’t surprise me if he does.  (By the way, is Courson back and in charge of Daniels’ treatment?  Just wondering.)

As far as the rest of it goes, I don’t think this team is going to have a hangover from the Clemson win.  I do, however, think the offense isn’t going to be all that this week, even if it is playing a defense that, while good, isn’t up to Clemson’s level.  For one thing, if Daniels doesn’t start, whoever plays quarterback is going to be told to play it safe.  For another, I anticipate some tinkering this week on the offensive line.  Finally, there hasn’t been much word this week on the receiving corps getting some of the walking wounded back.

As far as the Blazers’ offense goes, well, if Clemson could only manage three points despite winning the turnover battle, I’m not expecting UAB to light up the scoreboard.

I think they’d be happy with a grinder of a game and I suspect Kirby’s gonna give them what they want.  The pick ’em spread is 26.5, which is a little too rich for my blood.  I’m thinking something more like a comfortable, workmanlike 27-3 win.

To me its frustrating that there is even talk of Bennett starting. That means Beck still isn’t ready (if not after year 2 then when??) or he did something to land himself in hot water with the coaches.

Now it sounds as it JTD might start instead? What a roller coaster of a week of news/leaks coming out. Can we not find some damn stability in the ranks? Its week 2 for Christ’s sakes.

Anyway, dawgs roll by at least 3 scores.

I’ll be the first to say I’m glad we didn’t start Beck and Bennett looked F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. Beck still isn’t ready and now his problem is that BVG is hot on his heels with Stockton also incoming.

        But…

We have seen this movie before haven’t we? Bennett looked great until we hit real competition last year.

One big difference: last year Bennett was missing receivers with the long ball. Yesterday he was hitting them with perfectly thrown balls. After what I saw yesterday I would be fine if he started against the gayturds.

Beck clearly wasn’t “ready”, but be thankful we have a good backup. Beck just needs some time and guidance. I think he’ll work out. Kid’s got a gun.

    Dawgs 31 UAB 13
I’m kind of excited to see what CB brings to the table.
And while SB4 isn’t an elite passer, he’s got a lot of experience and he’s got some legs.
I think our running backs take over the fourth period.

    • Tend to agree. Time to see if #2 QB is ready and run the offense which needs the reps. Cool off in the 4th Q if things are well in hand.

So the same lack of healthy receivers does not matter to you?

No matter who the QB is until all the other positions on are full go the offense will not be. This is not golf or singles tennis.

Let’s just win and continue to get everyone health before making judgements on Kirby week 2 playing UAB.

We whipped ass. We have recruited extremely well and the offensive skill weapons can make this offense elite.

The Oline is worrisome in run blocking – that Defense is good too.

The defense is exciting as hell.

If JT isn’t able to play – I still think we need a QB that can attack the boundaries.

We love the walk on- until we don’t

I think Kirby got salty when Beck’s old QB coach was talking publicly about UGA’s plan. He’s going to teach Beck and everyone else a lesson by starting Stetson. Beck was the #2 QB getting all of the extra reps for a reason.

Really hate to say this, but Mac Jones was ready to play when Tua was hurt. Trask was ready when Franks got hurt.

What are we doing if the offense is really just one QB

This has all the hallmarks of a classic Richt – Smart Letdown Game:

    1) HUGE game in Week 1 that we won? Check.

    2) Non-SEC / P5 opponent in Week 2? Check.

    3) Injuries to the QB, o-line, and well, everywhere on the offense? Check.

Given all that, I’ll say Dawgs 23 and Blazers (an uncomfortable) 13

My Dawg! Yes sir, it was a nip of autumn in the air this morning and the dove hunters were out in force. The sound of shotguns from afar gets my blood pumping. I agree that an alcoholic beverage of some sort is necessary to smooth my hackles. As I told some of the boys earlier, the Dawgs practice against better competition weekly than they’ll see today. It’s Kirby’s job to win, not assuage the whims of the fan base. He’s proven a bit stubborn, but I believe he will unleash the wide open game when the team is healthy and prepared. Time grows short…

Ranger, the reason I like fishing better than hunting is that you can drink beer while fishing. But dove shoots are an exception in that you can drink beer and shoot shotguns which is pretty awesome. Come to think of it , drinking beer and watching GA football if pretty fun too. I think there is a common denominator in there somewhere.

I reckon you can get away with drinking beer and dove hunting. Back in the day I saw some drunk assholes get involved with sprinkling each other. Shit happens in a dove field and one payback shot should be enough to alert the offender after his second breach in etiquette. They had too much liquor and I didn’t stick around to see how that ended.
More than two beer or drinks is a very bad idea when handling firearms. We never shoot on microdot Friday.

JT will be back, prob for SC.
We know we’ve got a capable backup in SB4.
    Beck ain’t ready yet.
Beck is a work in progress, but you can see he’s got a great arm and will only get better. That one run he got a first down on he looked pretty fast.
Our running backs are giving second and third efforts like their lives depend on it.
We don’t have a QB problem, we’ve got riches at QB.
And we still don’t have our best receivers.
I can’t feel anything but good about this game.

Seriously, Bennett is allowed to get better just like JT, right? It’s been almost a year since Bennett lost the starting job. He may have made significant improvements while everyone was watching JT. I’d like to see him start against an SEC defense.

Gurkha, I like Bennett as much as the next guy. However his height, or lack thereof, is a major issue. SEC defenses have him figured out. They get their hands up and bat his passes down. His arm strength is a bit lacking also. He’s a more than serviceable backup, a Damn Good Dawg and a huge step above the next man up.
I’d like to see a real 5 star QB start against the better SEC defenses. SBIV will do just fine against USCum and the commodewhores. Loved his work today.
