Musical palate cleanser, rock opera edition

Reading this (make sure you read Isbell’s entire chain)…

… got me to this.

That whole album is great. For my money, I don’t know if I’ve heard a better line in any song than:

    “I got 350 heads on a 305 engine
I get 10 miles to the gallon, I ain’t got no good intentions.”

    Followed closely by:

“’cause your daddy knows that blood red carpet
At the Salem Church of Christ
Ain’t gonna ever see no wedding
    Between me and you.”

No better anthem of southern teen angst and aimlessness than Zip City.

DBT w/ Isbell is one of my favorite bands. I moved back to the southeast in 2001 and a buddy shared some live recordings and I just couldn’t get enough. I started recording them every chance I got and never left a show disappointed. While leaving DBT was probably the greatest thing to ever happen to Isbell, it sure left a void in the band.

Great record. The band was better with Isbell but glad he’s doing well on his own.

  6. “Let There Be Rock” is biographical for me 1974-1977. Except I did get to see Skynyrd.

  7. Fantastic band and a fantastic album. Glad that they’ve patched things up with Isbell over the years.
