Game day post, South Carolina edition

I almost hate to come off like this, but this game isn’t destined to be a nail biter.  Georgia seal clubbed UAB 56-7.  Sagarin rates South Carolina as being roughly four points better than the Blazers; even after last week, SP+ ranks UAB two spots higher than the ‘Cocks; FEI has UAB ranked lower, but both teams are underwater.

In other words, barring a repeat of Jake Fromm’s miserable day two seasons ago, it shouldn’t be close.

I do think Carolina is going to come out and make Georgia try to beat them with the run by following Clemson’s strategy in the opener, so I don’t expect an early pinball effect on the scoreboard.  But I don’t expect that South Carolina’s defense is going to remind anyone of Clemson’s, either.

There’s also no reason to believe that the ‘Cocks are going to succeed offensively when Clemson couldn’t.

So, it’ll take longer to get there, but I do think the Dawgs wind up covering.  Look for lots of opportunities for the backups on defense and the offensive line in the second half.  (Carson Beck, too.)  Just stay healthy, Dawgs.

Have at it in the comments, peeps.

No mercy, Dawgs. Take them behind the woodshed for an old-fashioned @$$ whipping.

I can see a few stumbles here & there 1st half since JT hasn’t played in a few weeks…but we eventually whip ’em into oblivion. Fully expect Saban to apply the same treatment to that clown to our south.

I’d love to see the Dawgs’ OL consistently win the line of scrimmage. Don’t care if the Cocks sell out to stop the run. South Carolina ain’t Clemson. Get Willock in there at G and maul ’em.

I went for a nice run around 10 AM. The campus and Milledge were not super packed but it was a great sight seeing our people out there setting up grills and hydrating via Miller Lites approximately 9 hours before game time. Go Dawgs!!

I hope we turn out and stay loud all game. Ticket prices plummeted this week, but hopefully that was due to the rain scare that seems to no longer be in the forecast.

Don’t blame the loss to the Chickens two years ago on Fromm, Senator. There was plenty of blame to go around, including a flawed coaching strategy on O and a crucial miss by our all-world kicker.

If we can score at will we need to keep doing it. We need a total blowout to start the SEC slate and send a message that Kirby & the Dawgs ain’t F%%@@@* around.

I’m gonna take it as a bad omen if we can’t beat Carolina at least as bad as it looks like Bama is gonna beat the Turds.

#20 on Alabama has done the Brenton Cox imitation multiple times today. He crashes inside and they go outside right around him. The same spot in the middle of the field has been open all day for Jones to dink and dunk. This definitely is not the Bama were used to seeing. Win or lose, it is going to be a LONG week of practice in Tuscaloosa.

I guess I was more hoping for an Alabama blowout. I will take the Florida loss, but I was hoping I would feel like Florida would be a guaranteed walk over. I do not feel that way right now…

Is Florida really good or is ‘Bama’s defense that bad No rush, lost contain multiple times, allowed the same pass to the same spot in the middle of the field over and over and over. I thought ole Henry from Tennessee was supposed to be the greatest LB in college history and could stop that. I guess not.

What I’ve seen so far today:
Bama not as good as I thought
    Florida better
    Auburn maybe better
    Clemson worse

I think we’re who we thought we were. Need to close out strong.

    • Clemson definitely has taken a step back.

Everyone should’ve seen the writing on the wall when Saban turned “pro offense”…an excuse for missing defensive talent because of the loss of Kirby in 16. If the offense goes, they’re f*cked.

      Auburn is…an enigma.

Fuck Florida. They are what they are. Mullen, for all the hype, cost them the game with shit game management and play calling. He was like Paul Johnson today and he could’ve beaten Saban.

We have to worry about ourselves and not outthinking ourselves.

They seem to think it’s their job to even things up. Earlier there was a first down where the runner stepped out of bounds two yards short but kept running and they just gave it to him. Been several bad calls tonight.

We were burned by the long ball all night. I can’t imagine how the secondary would manage without the great pressure from the front line. If we can’t fix that, we’re going to pay for it somewhere down the line.

The SEC plays the best football top to bottom of any conference. We balance that by having the worst officiating of any conference top to bottom.

The fumble @ 12:56 4th quarter? The Dawg’s runner’s knee was down. Then the cocks were awarded a welfare TD. That skewed the line.
      30 1/2 points
      47 1/2 total
Score should’ve been 40-6. The folks in Vegas know their job. Seems they didn’t take into account Kirby not giving a shit though. Or maybe Kirby is influenced by the point spread. Nothing would surprise me anymore. If I woke up tomorrow and the headlines screamed, “SEC OFFICIALS IMPLICATED IN 40 YEAR POINT FIXING SCHEME !” I would have no problem believing that.
As far as SEC refs I’m more inclined to believe Hanlon’s razor.

I don’t thing that there is a point fixing scheme, but I do believe they are grossly incompetent. I do believe that they have biases that they can not put aside when then call a game.

  71. The Handbags, the Nerds and the Gamecocks got their moral victories yesterday. Even though FU never actually led in the game, Dopey/Goofy gets to brag that they were a 2-point conversion from overtime, and South Carolina fans can brag to Clemson people that their offense did more against us than they did.

Do we have some stuff to work on? Yep. Another week of beating the stuffing out of an opponent while Kirby has plenty to chew on his team over works for me.

Had a great time at the game.. got in with relative ease 20 minutes before kick; bathroom and concession lines weren’t bad and the energy inside was great. Only gripe is the scoreboard didn’t show any replays after the first SC completion reversal. After that, I don’t remember seeing any replays? What’s going on with that? Is it against the regular or something?
