Exercise in futility

Tell us you didn’t need a survey without saying you didn’t need a survey.

Further illustration of the difference between inept and dysfunctional.  Mark Emmert is inept.  The organization he heads is dysfunctional.

If the NCAA wants to keep some semblance of control, and the billions that come with March Madness, they must separate the P5 and G6 like they once did D-1A and D-1AA (since renamed FBS and FCS), and they need to do it before this year is out otherwise I do believe the P5 will leave all on their own and the NCAA will go bye-bye.

Allow the G6, like the FCS, to hold their OWN playoff and syphon-off half of the bowl games in the process. They could turn bowls that are sparsely attended but that still pull in millions of eyeballs that the P5 teams hate playing in, like the Independence Bowl or Birmingham Bowl or Sun Bowl, into their version of the Outback and Gator and Duke’s Mayo Bowls.

In doing this, we can stop with the ridiculousness of a 12-team playoff, and instead have the P5 and G6 both have their own 8-team playoffs. Now you don’t need the Georgia Southerns and App States of the world begging for crappy bowl game scraps. They can win National Championships again. This is the way it should be.

If the NCAA is smart, they’ll move quickly on something like this.

Which of course means it will never happen. Sigh.

So are you saying the miss state and ole miss of the world will not have a bowl to play in because gsu is in it?

I think that’s where we ultimately end up. In my scenario, there’s an AFC/NFC Super League that takes the top 20-40 teams and the CFP from the P5 to form their own group. The rest of the P5 and the G5 combine to form their own league with their own championship structure.

  3. So, is this for football only? The billion dollar question is about March Madness. If the Power 5/Autonomy 5 (yes, Bowlsby may have saved himself) decides to leave and form their own governing body for all sports, the NCAA is dead.

  4. Emmert is a former college president proving he knows nothing about sports management. The other college presidents he reports to clearly know less. The AD’s are generally bad. Go get a commissioner and let him/her build this right. I wonder if Billy Payne still a has the energy?
