Herbie ❤ the Portal Master™.

At some point, we’re going to have to ask if Florida’s loss last week to Alabama was merely the greatest loss of the season, or the greatest loss in SEC history evahKirk Herbstreit’s on board with that shit, baby.

“Florida’s not into having moral victories but Florida’s got to feel really good about that game,” Herbstreit said on the ESPN College Football Podcast. “They had some missed opportunities, or maybe the win the game. My personal feeling is Dan Mullen is a hell of a coach. He works like a magician when it comes to quarterback play. I’m excited to see not just where Florida goes but the entire SEC.”

The magician.  At least we get a new nickname out of the slobbery, so there’s that.  But wait — there’s a warning!

“I walked away thinking ‘Ok Georgia, Ok Georgia. We were already putting you in Atlanta, that was a mistake,’” Herbstreit said, insinuating that he thinks Dan Mullen’s Florida team can beat Georgia this season. “We just always get reminders in this sport. Just when you think ‘I know,’ you don’t know.”

He’s certainly living proof of that.  Be afraid, Dawgs.  Be very, very afraid.

  1. He’s just trying to do his job and keep people engaged. Like the announcers in a snoozer blowout of a football game constantly trying to tell you it’s a football game.

Agent Herbstreit does not approve of your message or your methods, Agent Herbstreit wants you to know he’s on the FU train to nowhere…sad ending for that ass wipe’s ride is oct. 30th when he’ll be begging to be let back on the “O.K. it’s Georgia”…

Things seem to be aligning perfectly for UGA this year. Not only do they have a terrifying defense, a wealth of running backs, a glut of talented receivers before you even get to the best ones, an offensive coordinator who knows what he’s doing, and a quarterback who can throw the long ball, but there is no rat poison as Herbie and friends seem to be refusing to acknowledge what is obvious in terms of what the Dawgs are putting on the field. I’ll just bet Kirby has the Dawgs ready for a 2017 style demolition of Florida. Maybe not but I don’t think Florida has the horses to beat this team.

    Jesus effing Christ!!!

I am sick and fucking tired of the media narrative about Sideshow Dan the Clown that is absolutely not true.

To put it another way, as a head coach, Cousin Eddie is a helluva offensive coordinator.

    Smart’s record vs. the Top-10: 10-4
    Smart’s record vs. the Top-25: 17-8

    Mullen’s record vs. the Top-10: 2-29
    Mullen’s record vs. the Top-25: 7-43

    Smart is 3-1 vs. MuLLLen

Sideshow Dan the Clown’s ability to “do more with less” IS A FUCKING LIE!!!

If he did more with less, which by the way THE LESS IS HIS FAULT BECAUSE HE’S A SHITTY RECRUITER, than his record vs. the Top-25 would be vastly better.

I’m sick of it. I’m not on twitter or any social media, but if some of you who are could PLEASE copy-paste the above FACTS into Herbie and any other media idiot’s twitter timeline every time they talk about Cousin Eddie’s “genius” and make the confront the truth, I would be appreciative.

Herbstreit is getting the reaction he wants. The entire college football analyst thing is pretty much nothing but promotion and part of it is trolling intentionally or unintentionally through narratives designed to create interest. I found an option on Firestick where I can watch the game with crowd noise and the band but no commentary. It’s great. These people almost never tell you anything useful and they’re irrelevant to watching and enjoying the game unless you just like listening to people babble and state the obvious or enjoy hate listening to people like Gary Danielson and Herbstreit.

    • You are missing the point. Dopey Dan is the greatest offensive genius when losing. Nobody cares that Kirby actually wins….pfffft…anybody can win with our talent. To get accolades Kirby is going to need to have poor recruiting and THEN lose. He’s just not up to the challenge. We probably should fire him after this season and get Hugh Freeze.

Lol. When people look at how the media treated Kirby after barely losing to Alabama twice versus how they are treating Sideshow, I don’t know how they can let it make them mad. It’s so ridiculous on its face that I don’t know how anybody can do anything but laugh.

Agree 100% with all of this. Other data points you can throw in are last year was the first time in 10+years as a HC that Mullen won his division and believe it’s the first time since Mullen as a head coach scored more than 20 points against a Kirby coached defense.

That being said, I don’t disagree with anything Herbie said. Florida is a good team and if we don’t show up in Jacksonville with bad intentions, they will beat us and in doing so wreck our preseason goals (playoffs, secc are all predicated on winning the East).

Dan Mullen is the most unique character I’ve ever seen in the sports media. He’s been an SEC HC for 13 years and has never won a post season game. Never even won the SEC. Yet he’s always on the verge of breaking out. His record against ranked teams is awful. He’s lost 4 of his last 6 games, with the only wins being G5/FCS schools. Yet here he is…still on that media pedestal even after doing what so many other coaches have done over and over to Alabama: lose.

This is why lazy people like, oh, Greg McGarity?…Yes, like Greg McGarity…think he’s a good coach. Somehow he’s managed to cull that underdog outperforming expectations narrative even at FLORIDA.

Herbie and all the pundits know that….

1.)Elite coaches win the close games.

2.) Elite coaches pull in elite talent.

Looks like Mullet still has neither of those 2 boxes checked.

    Move along.

They’re not a great team, but they did just scare the hell out of Bama. They did it in the SEC last year, too… after beating us. Herbie’s drastically overstating the situation, but I sure hope the team doesn’t look at Florida the way the rest of y’all seem to. Mullen can’t recruit for shit, but he does make good use of whatever he’s got on a roster.

Mullen has enough of a track record now as a HC for anyone who is objective to see that he just is what he is. He will win between eight and ten games but will lose the ones that matter and will come up a little short always. I don’t understand why that is such a feather in his cap to have less than great talent while he does it. Why wasn’t Richt treated like he was a genius if what Mullen is doing is so impressive?

      • MGW

Mullen is a top notch OC. He’s a top notch coach for a team who, due to their position in the CFB world, CAN’T recruit well. That’s not what UF is. So they’ll never get to Meyer/Spurrier levels under his leadership. What they WILL do is beat/scare some more talented teams, but not consistently enough to win championships.

Richt was treated that way because he was always going to be compared to Meyer/Saban, and even Auburn and LSU with coaches other than Meyer/Saban won championships while he was at Georgia.

Also, Mullen hasn’t done a whole lot of losing to objectively inferior teams, which was an annual staple for Richt’s teams.

Richt was a better coach (call me when Mullen comes 5 yards short of a title, or puts together a team that looks anywhere near as dominant as 2007 Georgia became, to say nothing of the Greene/Shockley teams), but I think that’s probably the answer to your question.

It’s not possible to recruit well at Florida? One of the most talent rich states in the country is their home state but you can’t recruit well there? Even with Miami and FSU down? I had to read that twice to make sure that was what I saw.

Speaking of FSU, 2 FSU guys, Koepka and Berger, won their Ryder Cup match this morning and Paul Azinger said, “That’s FSU’s first win this year.”

Not a chance that happens MGW. Kirby, like the Old Ball Sack, is an alum. Spurrier hated UGA so much because of how bad a butt kicking he took as a player. Kirby is the same way. With Kirby, the WLOCP is personal in a way it will never be for MuLLLen. And you can guarantee the players know it; they can see it on his face.

And to me this has been the difference under Kirby as it relates to Florida as much as the upgrade in talent. FTMF is in our consciousness for that very reason. Kirby verbalized how we all feel about them. Richt wanted to beat them but there was no way he could feel the same way we do about it like Kirby does.

  8. There is no stopping the narrative. This reaction to the loss is in lockstep with where the media have been with mullen the last decade; to them, he’s the greatest coach who’s never won anything.

And even though I think all this praise they’re getting is somewhat unearned, they might be right. I can’t pretend I’m not worried about the cocktail party this year. They’re scrappy underdogs with just enough talent to over achieve any given Saturday.

Georgia just has to show up and play big. But even if we win, I doubt the narrative will go away.

If we win, the media narrative will swing to the amount of talent, and thus depth, Kirby has been able to amass.

If Georgia wins enough times it will go away. I don’t know how many times it will take but at some point when Mullett is say 5-1, 6-1, 7-1, 8-1 or 9-1, against the Dawgs, the narrative will change because the writers like everybody else don’t want to look stupid. Saying repeatedly that Mullet is a superior coach to Kirby when his record is so one-sided the other way will make who says that look stupid.

You have to give Mullen credit – he come a long way from listening to Andy Dwyer act out his favorite scenes in Roadhouse in Pawnee, IN. Now he is the 2nd best coach in all of college football.

There is the occasional DAWG love out there from the pundits. Was listening to Dusty and Danny this morning on ESPN radio. Dusty Dvoracek has said he picked the DAWGS to win it all at the beginning and he’s sticking to it. He then went on to say that Danny picks against the DAWGS and actively roots against them. That seemed to strike a nerve and old Danny Boy did his best crawfish imitation back pedaling as fast as he could. He says he “Loves” the DAWGS but just holds them to a higher standard like the DAWG fans do. It was also brought up that a Georgia girl must have broken his heart which he vehemently denied. It was fun to hear him called out in public by his colleague. It’s not just DAWG fans that hear the venom when he talks about UGA. Maybe he wanted to go there and didn’t get an offer. What ever it is, something is still eating away at him where the Red & Black is concerned.

We got our assess beat last year when our QB went down to a shoulder blow from a Florida player and left us with no passing game.
We have two or three more scores in that game if that hadn’t happened.

I’m way late in the day on this one, but I think there is certainly a difference between UGA recruiting and UF recruiting, it’s undeniable. However, can we just talk about the fact that even though Mullen’s recruiting isn’t elite, it’s not like he doesn’t hover around the top 10 in recruiting. His recruiting rankings are (247 source)

    2021 – 12th
    2020 – 9
    2019 – 9

So yeah, is Mullen an elite recruiter? No, he isn’t, but it’s not like he’s throwing a bag of flaming hot cheetos out on the field. Talk to me about over achieving when he has Vandy’s class (49) with two four stars. Otherwise he’s doing about what a guy who recruits in that ranking range should be.
