Third Arky thoughts

I ain’t got nothin’ but love for Sam Pittman.  As a Georgia fan, how can you not?  He’s just a good guy and he was a great assistant coach in Athens as Kirby Smart built his program.

He’s also turned out to be a helluva head coach.  That Brian Fremeau tweet I posted this morning about Georgia’s net ypp?  Arkansas is fourth on that list, with a 3.16 net ypp in non-garbage time play.  That is a well coached team, in other words.  No, the Hogs don’t approach the Dawgs in the talent and depth department — something that might be exacerbated in Arkansas’ first road game of the season — but this team is no slouch.  They’ve earned their 4-0 record and top ten standing.

And, to be honest with you, there is one intangible that concerns me.  Sam Pittman is playing with house money right now.  Nobody expected Arkansas to be in as lofty a position after four games as they are now, just like nobody is expecting them to run through their current four-game gauntlet (TAMU, Georgia, Ole Miss and Auburn) unscathed.  A loss on Saturday isn’t going to be anywhere near the end of the world for Pittman and his team.  That makes them dangerous.

A well coached team throwing out everything but the kitchen sink to pull off an upset is a little scary.  Especially with a noon start.  I expect Kirby will have his team ready to go.  He’d better.

All true, but I will really start to worry if CSP is spotted unloading a juke box from the equipment truck.

Given where they are in their schedule though, a loss to UGA doesn’t hurt their divisional aspirations. Might keep stuff in reserve for West games. Pretty banged up, not expected to compete…

The little I have watched of them on TV……I was impressed with how their defense flies around the ball. They looked confident and aggressive on D. Slobberknocker forecast category 5

    • I thought in the TAMU game they showed a lot of composure, too. (I’m sure Kirbs noticed… since it’s one of his mantras) Especially when their #1 QB went out for a while. Things started to look sketchy for them in the second half, but they buckled down on D and really looked like they were serious about their business.

  5. The Pittboss will have his team ready, but those hogs are about to be run through a slaughterhouse (number 5 in you’re a Vonnegut fan)

    This GA team is ready.

Gonna be a challenge to fit all the pre-game drinking in before 11 am. But, I believe in us. We can do it!

Yep, what a great place to be. Keep us 2nd as well; let Bama have all the scrutiny each week if they don’t score 50.

October, after beating 3 ranked teams, can be aver good month for the Dawgs.

We need to make it a hostile road environment for them. This will be their first one of those come early. G and be loud. GO DAWGS!!

Come Saturday, its going to be bacon for breakfast – BBQ for lunch – and ham for dinner. For dessert I plan on a cold beer and potted meat and cheese on a cracker. I’m going whole hog on the Dawgs and hope everyone else is too. Sic ’em boys!

Oh the noon start!!!! If this team can’t get up for this game then there is something wrong. We point to the noon start against South Carolina as a sign that we suck at noon starts, but there was something VERY wrong with that team.
I think a noon start is an advantage for us- they’re starting at 11 their time.

I’m sure Sam Pittman will get a warm reception fro, very rude reception on the field.

I think Arkansas is pretty good but I don’t think they’re as good as everybody thinks they are. I have nothing to back that up other than it’s just my gut feeling. I believe the Dawgs are going to win and won’t be shocked if they win by a lot. Arkansas believes right now. And that can be a powerful thing while it’s unchallenged. But as soon as belief is shattered it can be ugly.

I have no usable football knowledge and even I can see that the Dawgs have far more depth and athleticism than the Hogs on both sides of the ball. Probably Odom plays his D like Venables did, which means Bowers, DW0, Ladd, and the Dawgs’ RBs should feast. No way Arky’s D-line is as good as Clemson’s–or Sakerlina’s, for that matter.

Good point about belief. I expect the Dawgs to make a statement in the first quarter.

This game is entirely about us.

I love Sam Pittman and I love the way he has Arkansas playing football. They play hard. I watched as much of that Arkansas-Texas game as any non-Dawg game this year because I loved seeing the upstart hitting the perpetual fraud in the mouth over and over again.

But, if we’re truly elite we’ll kick this ass and take this name and move on to the Plains next week for more of the same.

You’re either elite or you’re not.

The trench warfare in this one will not be for the faint of heart. Keep JT clean and he will cut them up.

Our fans are either elite or they aren’t. We’ll find out based on the noise level in a hot-midday game in Sanford. A few botched snaps will make a big difference in this game. Keep in mind they faced TAMU on a neutral field.

Our defensive speed plus amazing offensive talent points to a beat down.

This Game will be close for a half, similar to last year. I also believe our depth proves too much and we pull away in the 3rd 4th for a 14-21 point victory

I’m excited for a “big game” where one wasn’t guaranteed. Fully agree Arkansas has earned its place so far, and fully agree that UGA could exploit their depth and talent but that it is not a guarantee. Arkansas is going to have to knock them off their game though because watching Arky vs. A&M I felt UGA was in a good spot.
