Not the news I wanted to wake up to this morning

Arrrgh!

Did they import the Neyland Stadium turf to the practice field, or something?  This is getting ridiculous.

I really hate it for Tykee.  You change schools, head down to play for a team contending for big things, injure your foot and just as you’re about to get a real chance to contribute, your season is over.  That sucks, obviously.

The good news is that he’s in good hands with Courson and Company.  They have plenty of experience, unfortunately.

It’s like some of the boys said on another site, “We can’t catch a frakking break!!!”

It is good. But, man, we are razor thin now in the secondary. We are very close to playing walk-ons on a permanent basis if we have another injury back there.

He has 2-3 more years of eligibility. He was in HS in 2018. WVU in 2019 and 2020. Pretty sure that he has played in less than 4 games this year. So it’s a redshirt year. 2020 doesn’t count against him either way because of Covid.

So when he heels up, he will be a returning vet a safety next year. Sucks for him. And sucks for this year. But he’s not going pro in January. So he’s got time to heal.

He played part of one game this year. It does suck both for him and the team, as I think he would have been a good player this year. On the bright side, they’ve had to play without him all year and haven’t suffered. Depth is a problem in the secondary, though.

Unbelievable. Hate it for him and for the team. Secondary has been voted the section of the field least likely to overcome injuries. The bye week can’t get here soon enough.

  6. A) this team needs a bye like none I can remember,
    B) he wasn’t playing yet, so we know what we have, but man, we can’t take a another injury back there, and
    C) I need to see a little more against Tennessee, but I think it’s time to legitimately circle that game. Heupel’s offense did well against our D in both 2016 and 2017, and they are going to throw deep, a lot. We really need to get Speed and Smith back, and it would be good if some other guys stepped up, though I don’t know who that would be.

Hooker is their starter at QB now right? Isn’t he the one that looks like he has concrete in his boots when he runs? He is going to have a hard time escaping our pass rush if its the same QB I’m thinking of.

      • You should watch a little of them. They are getting better each week. They might have finally fell ass backwards into a good coach. It won’t be easy with these injuries in the back end.

Well I’ve seen them. I watched them lose to Pitt and UF. The other games I’ve watched I’m not sure how much you can take from it since the competition was really bad.

If there’s going to be a trap game, it has to be Tennessee. The other three teams after Florida are awful. However, you usually can’t circle a trap game on the schedule, so maybe there just won’t be one.

    • Throwing deep = holding the ball longer. I like our chances in that situation,

Our toughest opponent this season appears to be IBU, (Injury Bug University.)

Lanning has backups. He has to have, doesn’t he?
Maybe Pickens will be well soon. He’d make a good safety. Yeah..I know that won’t happen but he would.

  10. The injury bug is bad at UGA, but it’s bad at a lot of places. I think today’s athletes are so muscularly (over?)developed, their joints can’t sustain the weight and torque they are putting on their bodies.

Wow, that is awful – I hope his surgery goes well and he gets through rehab without any complications.

Thank you for making a move to Athens Tykee and I am sorry it has not worked out for you on the injury front.

The thing that really has me nervous is the fact we have all these injuries and still have to go to Tennessee

This really sucks for Tykee, but we should be okay because we did for four games without him. We absolutely don’t need any more injuries, though.

  15. With every guy we lose and every week others don’t return, I’m losing confidence in how this season will go. I don’t think we make it to the NC game a few years ago without one of the healthiest Georgia teams ever. The 2021 team couldn’t be more polar opposite in that regard. The sky isn’t falling but it feels kinda dark.

Yeah, and they’re not even game injuries. We might be ok on O with the help of players returning, this D situation seems like that’s not the case.

      • Hopefully the front 7 (and the offense) can continue to protect the secondary and Jackson. Or maybe Jackson can become some folk hero and play above his walk-on title. My concern on offense is continuity when/if JT returns.

The good news is that my concerns are just hypothetical at the moment since this team has yet to really have it’s back to the wall.

Crazy how Kirby won the transfer portal by a mile and yet only one of those three (Kendrick, Smith, Gilbert) is going to do anything for us this year.

  19. Does anyone know how long Smith is expected to be out with the separated shoulder? Or how badly his shoulder is injured?
