Siri, how does QBR work?

Somehow, Will Levis wound up yesterday’s game with a higher QBR (85.4) than Stetson Bennett (75.4).

    That’s not the stat I care about at all.

    Look a few rows down from the UK QB.

    7 rushes for 7 yards for a 1 yard per carry average.

      I think he played about as well as he’s capable of playing. He was far more accurate than he had been against any real defenses.

      The dude threw some darts but it didn’t really translate into anything for them. 22 play, 11 minute drives to close the game will do that for you.

        I don’t recall many downfield throws– the zone does that–but there was the one in the fourth where the pass was so bad it went behind both receiver and defender by several yards. Still, I was impressed with his poise, if nothing else.

          Yeah same here. I wasn’t super impressed with anything he did play wise but he was under attack the entire game and it didn’t seem to bother him.

            He had several nice 10-15 yard throws where we were collapsing the pocket. Coverage was good, too. But nothing really down field. As you say, zone will do that and I’m fine with it. I think the switch to zone this year is a big reason our defense is thriving.

              Understanding the concept, knowing help is on the way if you keep the play in front of you and OPEN field, one on one tackling is at a premium at UGA football…

              Not that it would have mattered-his receivers dropped. A lot. I thought he was pretty good. And not just because he outweighs stetson by 39 pounds.

    Levis is a more than serviceable QB, and his OC called some outstanding plays, which will win them most games except against a D that’s making a march toward Bulldog, if not college football, lore.

      One of the ESPN guys noted that the last team (not sure if he meant SEC or nationally) to allow 46 points through seven games was Alabama in 1992. What they’re doing in this era of college football is amazing. Imagine if they actually called the opponent’s offensive line for holding ever.

        I saw the UK Oline holding constantly—no flags! If the refs are not going to call holding just repeal the rule and let the Dlinemen head slap and do other things to break the hold.

          Holding on offensive linemen is pretty rarely called in general, and for teams playing Georgia, it’s as if they’ve decided that it’s unfair to ask them to block legally and will therefore almost never call it.

    Stats can be misleading, at one point our stat board had Levis @ 4-6 for 102 yds in 1st qtr. I’m thinking “did I miss something?!”

    As for “blocking” #79 was all-world yesterday. He’s a 5th year senior so he’s perfected his “blocking” craft.
    (Couldn’t believe he didn’t “block” on the throwback screen that Nakobe blew up)

      Yeah I didn’t like the holding penalties on Georgia while looking the other way on nonstop holding by Kentucky as if it was to make things “a little more fair.” That’s not their job. Evening things out isn’t what they’re there to do.

    Levis had a helluva game really. Dude converted a ton of 3rd and 4th downs. If he’s even slightly worse the game would have been routier than as routy as it was.

    Most of Levis’ good stats came in the final meaningless drive which to me was “garbage time.” A lot of it also came against subs.

    Looking at this it would appear that the number of completed passes is very important and yards per pass is virtually meaningless in determining a players QBR.

    Levis had a decent game. But 4.6 yards per completion paired with 1.9 per rush (51 total rushing yds.) won’t beat a good or great team w/out TO luck or a fantastic defensive performance.

    JT averaged 4.5 per completion against Clempsun but the Dawgs’ RBs ran for 121 yds. and the D gave up, as we all remember, 3 points.

    He threw a bunch of passes for not a whole lot of yards. He really took no chances down the field even when they needed to score quickly to get back in the game. Tough? Yes. Gamer? Yes. Good QB? Not really.

    It is a weird made-up ESPN statistic they would like people to use instead of QB rating since ESPN didn’t invent it – The Circle of Life!

    The reality is that Levis had an okay day against the UGA defense and in the ESPN metric they account for the defensive rating. So Stetson’s day is slightly diminished because the UK defense is not as good as the UGA defense. At least that is what I am able to ascertain based on this video.

    QBR is opponent adjusted…so really they are complimenting our defense. 32 of 42 for 5 yards per attempt and only 6 yards per COMPLETION…but it was against Georgia! It’s hard to believe the adjustment is that drastic that pure mediocre stats against Georgia D would come out with a better rating than Stetson’s crazy stats (12 yards per attempt!) against a good Kentucky defense…but hey maybe this defense really is just that good

      Lol QBR also adjusts for how difficult each play was in the moment (like avoiding a sack and throwing for 10 yards vs standing in the pocket clean and throwing for 10 yards). So…basically Levis did great considering who he was playing against, and Stetson was also good but darnit the oline just made things too easy for him
