Well, Knoxville, ain’t this a real kick in the pants.
Tennessee fired Butch Jones as its head coach and the Vols’ search for his replacement reached Schiano.
Tennessee fans displayed their displeasure of discussion that Schiano was set to become the Vols’ next head coach. Fans protested and voiced their displeasure on campus, social media and on sports talk shows.
According to former NFL general manager Mike Lombardi, Schiano was set to bring eventual Heisman Trophy and national championship quarterback Joe Burrow with him to Tennessee.
In a recent GM Shuffle podcast, Lombardi said that Tennessee not hiring Schiano prevented Burrow wearing orange and white and then transferring to LSU…
“He was going to go to Tennessee if Schiano got the job there until they — till social media blew that up — and then he went to LSU.”
Oh, well. At least Vol fans’ hearts are pure. And Clay Travis did help usher UT into a memorable era, even by Vol standards.
This warms my heart. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

Having two ut’s in the sec is gonna cause a little confusion, both believe in “how can we fuck this up anymore”, “do we have enough bank to cover this fuck up”…both are some kinda’ Gawd awful urnge…

Wow. Now, Joe wouldn’t have been as successful at UT as he was at LSU giving a talent disparity and overall stability, but still. I’ll never forget when Clay Travis gave out the UT ADs cell phone number to stir up protest (against Schiano), which led to UT instead hiring Pruitt. A few days later, Clay patted himself on the back as the defining force for stopping the hire.
Looking back, only the most completely delusional UT fan would state that hiring Pruitt turned out better for the program than if they would have hired Greg from the outset. Of course, bringing this to Clay’s attention today would be a pointless matter, as any response from him would merely involve him “punching downward.”

3rd, since Clay Travis is the smartest guy in the world (don’t take my word for it; just ask him) he foresaw what happened 2018 to now with UT but it will eventually lead to about 150 straight wins and 10 CFP championships down the road and it will be worth it.

I saw the story recently and thought to myself that while it is interesting simply from the unintended consequences standpoint of not hiring Schiano and where the program wound up (with potential for even further damage to come if the NCAA does their job), Burrow wasn’t all that special in 2018 and without Joe Brady I think it is reasonable to question whether he would have been the number one overall pick in the draft. I don’t think that they would have even won a natty in 2019 without Brady. Schiano was/is a better head coach than Pruitt who had never been a head coach in college at any level (and certainly not the SEC) and Clay’s use of Schiano’s ties to Penn State and Joe Pa and Sandusky was disingenuous at best and borderline slanderous and libelous.

Correct – the Greg to Sandusky tie literally was hearsay of hearsay. Yet that conveniently was good enough for him at the time. It’s only fitting that as a result they got Pruitt.

My first thought was how good would Joe Burrow have been without Joe Brady to develop him? Doesn’t matter, but interesting to think about.

He wasn’t anything special the season before.

For some crazy reason Joe Burrow has the 7th best passer rating in the NFL while Joe Brady’s current pupil is 28th. One would think that Sam Darnold would be vaulted to the top by coachin’! You know like what Charlie Weis did for Tom Brady and what Ray Goff did for Herschel.
Which reminds me. Who is the Titan’s RB coach?

That’s a position coach who deserves a raise!

Thank you for this! Just made my morning. You know what the best part is? I truly believe that UT is paying for a lot of pass sins. Karma is truly a cold hearted bitch.
But the best part is, that their actions during this time, just keep bring more bad to them.
This is such a bad cast of characters as a whole, that they cannot get out of their own way. They finally sell out Neyland, have a rocking crowd on a Saturday night, play pretty good football, only for the inbred part of the crowd (including their student section), to hurl tons of things at the Ole Miss players and on to the field. On a close call, but one that turned out to be right. And then had many of their fans openly defend their actions, not only that night, but the next day and the next and the next.
I hope Kirby keeps his foot on their throat. I can put up with the combination of ignorance, stupidity and blind loyalty to their beloved Orange. I can even put up with “Rocky Top”, while they are losing. Especially when a Georgia Quarterback is singing it, after leaving the press conference after the game. LOL…
But haven’t forgotten what an arrogant group of ass hats this group is when they are winning. The combination of arrogance, stupidity and ignorance, all rolled up into one – please… Never again.

ut not hiring Schiano was the best thing to ever happen to Burrow

There is no guarantee that Burrow would have had the same kind of season he did at LSU if he’d played at TN; but it’s a great arrow in the quiver to use when my misguided Vol family members show up.
