Today, in “is that good?”

From Seth Emerson’s Mailbag ($$):

I think we’re slowly running out of ways to describe the excellence of this Georgia defense.

Seems like most of them seem to do worse after they play Georgia. Is it possible that our defense just breaks them and they can’t recover?

I’m still amazed by just how bad Clemson’s offense is. Georgia’s only come close to that once recently, in Smart’s first year. And even then, they were a half yard better.

But yeah, completely shutting down Arkansas’ offense will look better and better. Their defense doesn’t have enough players to stop competent offenses, but their offense is legitimately very good.

The Dawgs D will definitely make a decent offense look bad. Man, I’ve been waiting on this a long time. Just need to get their offense healthy…

You and me both, Chief. Kirby though, needs to keep those Dawg’s heads dialed in and mean on the most important thing: Putting the stones to the gators next Saturday.

Senator, when the day arrives that GTP and others have run out of ways to adequately describe/makeup words for this edition of UGA football “D”, let’s recycle all the stuff we’ve used and come up with the greatest hits album…

  4. This defense makes everyone look worse than they are. That night on Charlotte shattered Ukelele’s confidence. UAB ran the ball with some success but never really threatened. South Carolina hit on 2 big passes, got 1 possession of cheap field position and scored a TD against our subs. Vandy was inept. Arkansas wilted under the assault of our defense. Auburn had 3 good drives and a bunch of nothing in between. Kentucky was completely outmanned.

Everyone seems to understand this is the best single unit in the sport right now.

To see Clemson ranked behind SC and UAB is mind blowing. The DAWGS D totally destroyed the DJ for Heisman narrative in 1 night.

Very impressive! The thing that makes me laugh is how little difference it made in the South Carolina schools’ numbers.

It looks like there are two categories of opposing offenses: bad when playing against UGA, and just plain bad.

Posted this a few days ago, but it bears repeating.

The opposing offense is more likely to be forced to punt on 4th and 11+ (16%) than to score points (10%) against the UGA defense. That is dominance in a nutshell.

Side bar based on those stats: A couple of turnovers could make the SC-Clemson very interesting this year

Wonder where those teams would rank in YPP, if ALL FBS teams remove their toughest/lowest ranked opponent game as well.
