I like “It would be unprofessional of me not to quote some of the replies . . .” How noble of him. And I imagine there were saucier replies than the ones he quoted.

I have taken to reading the Gator in Despair boards on a daily basis to start my day off with a (cruel) smile. Kirby and the DAWGS have taken up permanent residence in the penthouse in their heads. The takes range from Dan is just too weird and/or lazy to recruit. The other take is that UGA is backing up the Brink’s truck to every recruits front door (yet they are as pure as fresh fallen snow). The consensus (regardless of the reason) is that they are screwed six ways from Sunday. Here is a small sampling of the Thread Headers on 24/7 Swamp Talk.

Can UF start landing top tier Florida recruits?
Is Mullen visiting any High Schools during the bye ?
The reason Mullen hasn’t been on the trail this week.
How is Grantham still employed right now?
Objectively something is like wrong with Dan though right?
There is no way to compete with what Kirby is building!

DAMN IT’S GREAT TO BE A GEORGA BULLDOG! (and not be a suicidal ditch lizard)

He’s spot on re: the people that say Mullen is a better x’s and o’s coach. It’s such an arbitrary statement and they know you can’t really prove it, so just keep hammering that one home, handbags.
It’s a good thing twitter didn’t exist during the great drought of the 90’s/00’s.

    • We could never say Ray was a better Xs and Os guy than the OBS.

Honestly, Kirby is just as good at the Xs and Os as Dopey/Goofy. If you think our defensive strategy is just to throw a bunch of blue chips out there and see what happens, you (I don’t mean you, Korn) don’t know football. That defense is well coached in the scheme.

You’re absolutely right, ee. Spurrier had our number for the better part of two decades. I feel like Kirby has the same disdain for uf as SOS had/has for us. Which is why I don’t really worry about CKS having the team ready.

There are few, if any, feelings as a sports fan as satisfying as walking down that seemingly never-ending concourse at the Gator Bowl/Everbank/{insert current sponsor name here} stadium after a Dawgs win, all the while yelling “It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog.” I really hope I’m doing it again in just over 8 days.

Of course, it helps if you’re sober enough to walk and yell!

Kirby does not have “disdain” for fu. He has a visceral hatred for them unlike any UGA coach in my lifetime. The only person anywhere close to Kirby in feeling this way about this rivalry is the OBS.

You Know it. Kirby HATES the gators. he payed in the game in Athens in 1995 and was on the field when FLA ran a double reverse pass to score “Half a Hundred”. I hope we can reapy that next weekend.

I know it seemed like two decades but the Ol’ Ball Sack was only there a little over 10 years. They had a good ~15 year run, but since then it’s evened back out (6-4 UGA most recently) and Kirby’s about to go full-Dooley on their ass with another streak of something like 20-5 to get the series back to where it’s historically been. BTW, we still have an 8 game advantage on them in the all-time record even with their great run.

#FTMF We are going to pound the shit out of them in Jax this year.

Playing x’s & o’s is great if checkers is your game, whilest the opposition is playing 3 dimensional chess, not so much…#FTMF

Should Georgia win the national title this year, what are the folks still clinging to the player development and quarterback management narratives going to come up with to criticize Smart?

Kirby vs MuLLLen is an apples to oranges comparison in several ways. I’ll give you 2 big ones..
    1. Mullen is a creative OC. Kirby’s background is as a DC. Kirby is not going to design and oversee a creative offense. He’s going to have to hire a competent OC for that. Same can be said about defense. I’m looking at you “third and Grantham”. LOL.
    2. Kirby’s 1st HC job was in the spotlight at UGA. His every move was scrutinized. Being a HC is different. He needed time to develop as a HC just like a freshman QB needs time to develop and learn the position no matter how talented he is. Mullen had 9 years in Starkville to learn how to be a HC. There’s no spotlight in Starkville.

To you point #1- I present the following exhibits Todd Monken vs Todd Grantham. If that doesn’t settle the argument, I don’t know what will.

      Oh yeah, 1 more…
      3. On MuLLLen being the QB whisperer and developing players better than Smart. Not so much apples to oranges but outright bullshit. I could point out plenty of 3 star players like Deandre Baker, Jordan Davis, etc. that Kirby has done an outstanding job of developing. (Don’t forget Stetson Bennett).
But the real question is how in the everlovin’ hell did the QB whisperer have Heisman finalist Kyle Trask buried on the depth chart behind Felipe Franks & Emory Jones? It was only through FF injury and EJ ineffectiveness IN ACTUAL GAMES that led to Trask even playing!

Isn’t it amazing how they ignore that? I have a good friend who is a gator fan and normally really reasonable and level headed. But he fell for the offensive genius/quarterback whisperer bullshit. I asked him why then did Mullen only end up playing Kyle Trask through injuries to goat boy and just total shit play by Jones. I asked him how Mullen couldn’t see that Trask was better than the two of them. He really had no answer and has never brought it up again.

Maybe I’m reading something wrong here but I don’t think Kirby is 73-59.

73 games. 59 wins. The graphic is effed. (59-14)

Mullen is 33-12 at Florida and 102-58 overall. So that was also wrong. It made me wonder how long before Kirby eclipses Dan in lifetime wins. And – if you’re just looking at current jobs – Dan would need to run off a 26 and 2 to match Kirby.
