“Nick Saban is frustrated.”

Last night, if the announcers using the words “Saban” and “frustrated” in the same sentence had been a drinking game, I would have been shit faced by the middle of the third quarter.

I fully believe Josh Huepel’s ceiling at Hillbillyville is 9 games and second in the East, but his warp speed offense is going to cause many more reactions like that even in games the Vawls lose moving forward.

We’re probably going to see Kirby lose his ever-loving-mind in a couple of weeks at least twice.

He’s got an insanely talented team that finds creative ways to hand their opponents 3 points here, 4 points there, maybe bust on a coverage when a stop effectively ends the game.

That game should have been over at half. Instead, it was a game into the 4th.

Maybe they get it cleaned up moving forward, but usually you are what you are by the end of October.

I was traveling and couldn’t watch the game but did listen on the radio. It sounded to me that BAMA more than doubled TENN time of position and basically whipped them in the 4th quarter due to the TENN defense being gassed. Other than the defense being gassed to me it sounded like TENN was a bout par with BAMA

Bama dominated on a per play basis.

They also effectively had 2 turnovers on special teams and 2 coverage busts that kept Tennessee in the game. Their mistakes tend to be huge.

Found it interesting how much trouble bammer had with UT in pass pro.

There were times where bammer’s qb wasn’t comfortable.

Had UT had more defensive depth that may have been interesting through the fourth.

They ended up covering but their defense is not a vintage Bama defense and the offense especially the o-line is going to be a problem for them when they face us or another good defense.
They still scare me because they are Bama but if we play our best and they play like they played last night the CBS guys will have a lot to talk about re playoffs the first weekend of December.

This year’s Bama team isn’t elite along the line of scrimmage. They have some high draft picks in those position groups, but as units, they’ve got some holes.

This may be the weakest Bama team since 2008. Hope we get to play them.

Possibly. I hope they drop another game and we get Ole Miss. I don’t want the chance for Hoover and the Refs to give Bama an advantage.

I’m not so sure that Ole Miss isn’t a worse matchup for Georgia than Bama.

I can see that argument. I will point out their Rush D is the 2nd worst in the Conference in terms of yard given up per game and I don’t see them getting extra favorable calls.

Did you see how they performed against Bama? I have no doubt we could bludgeon them with our tailbacks.

Did you see UT get called for a questionable late hit, Bama get away with a targeting hit on the UT QB, and a Bama fumble on the goal line which was hardly reviewed? Do you remember the offsides call on a blocked punt?

I did not. I was watching the Braves. The SEC refs have set a new low for incompetence this year. Hope it doesn’t bite us in the SECCG.

UT took advantage of thier fast pace. Going fast is an advantage sometimes. But if a defense stops you. It turns into a big disadvantage. When a team goes 12 of 16 on third downs and bleeds the clock (and wears down a defense) an offense that can’t sustain long drives will not win. Alabama only beats themselves with stupid penalties and stupid mistakes, dropped balls, turnovers, and such have been the problems for a team that can only beat themselves.

That pleases me to see. Obviously because it shows weakness in the Death Star, but also watching Nick Saban pop a vein at age 69.

  7. I didn’t have an opportunity to watch the game, but the husband kept updating me saying “we are in trouble with UT.” Was that the Munson coming out in him or does UT have the capability to do what no one else has come close to doing this season?

It was Munson stuff but a lot of people are likely fretting. Tennessee might indeed be a little better than people expected but it’s just a fact that Alabama didn’t play very well for a lot of that game. Particularly the offensive line and receivers. It wasn’t until that quarterback run for a touchdown that he absolutely fumbled and may or may not have recovered that they started walking off with it. Tennessee started screwing up and then there was this flurry of points by Alabama. They didn’t play very well for just about three quarters of that game.

I agree. I think lack of depth also hurt Tennessee as the fourth quarter rolled around. We should be fine as Kirby and everyone else is ready for this game. And we have Missouri in between Florida and Tennessee.

But it’s played at Neyland, and if it’s a night game, that place will be rocking. I don’t like playing there to begin with, and I’ve got so many bad memories from seeing our guys laying on the field hurt. With the way they’ve behaved in the past, there’s also the added element of them booing whenever a guy goes down.

They can score quickly, and if they get to hang around AT HOME and AT NIGHT, it might not be as much fun.

Playing in their house presumably at night might make it interesting for a half or so but like Bama our depth will persevere in the end. I’m more nervous about what that cursed field might do to our injury-plagued offense.

Was watching the SEC network this AM and saw the interview with Saban AFTER the game. He was smiling and actually said “lets celebrate and enjoy this victory and we’ll worry about the mental lapses later”. The panels reply was who is this man and what have you done with Nick Saban. Something tells me it’s going to be the calm before the storm. Practice in Tuscaloosa next week is probably going to be a little intense.

The UT offense killed the UT defense last night. When you play fast you get the offense off the field fast. The defense has to play too many snaps, (70+) especially against a great team. If the SEC lets UT have another night game this year they are committing a tort against the opposition. CBS has 3:30 with a choice of UGA @ UT. Ark @LSU, TAM at Ole Piss, and MSU @ Auburn. I’m betting they don’t pick us again so we are left with 12 or 7:30. I hope they do pick us but that would be 4? times in 5-6 weeks?

Didn’t see this comment, 69Dawg, before posting my comment above. I, too, hope the Dawgs play at 3:30 but expect 7:30. Kneeland is always awful but it’s at its worst late in the day. Not looking forward to that one.

Still at my makeshift workbench tinkering and watching football again. Here’s a few observations:
Falcons suck but Miami sucks more.
    Roquan is a bad man.
    Fields sucks.
Tom Brady is amazing at any age. He obviously counted on living this long so he took better care of himself.
    Tom Brady? Fuck that guy.

I snicker, somewhat, that Fields is not adjusting to QBing for the Bears very well. Playing the NFL style and all, seems to be a challenge for him. Joe Burrow is doing well!

Saban has always said he’s going to retire when it’s not fun anymore. He doesn’t look like he’s have a ton of fun this year. If two former assistants beat his team this year it may just start the process.

And I feel like he has been saying a lot of things that come off as fake optimism to me. Things he wouldn’t usually say. It’s weird seeing him this way. They are still a good team though and they scare me to death to play, and probably always will until we get that monkey off our back or Saban retires, but confidence is definitely less than normal with this team.

Seems to me that 70yo Saban might be thinking it’s time to walk away. He doesn’t look like he’s having much fun these days. The rest of the conference is slowly catching up.
