“How many times have we had it in our hands and it slips away in the 11th hour?”

David Wunderlich’s post aside, it’s not like we Georgia fans haven’t had our load of angst to deal with.

It’s why “Munsoning” is a word we all identify with.

And some of you sick bastards have rewatched them games. How in the world can you take that level of agony?

I re watch and say I’m going to skip the bad part at the end, but I never do. I always watch to the bitter end. I also used to run until I puked and let Holyfield’s sparring partner beat my eyes out for the free boxing lesson.

Any title with the words “perpetually filled with angst” fits my relationship with Georgia football to a T. It’s a 40+ dysfunctional marriage. And at times she has been a soul crushing bitch to me but I always come back cause “I love her and maybe she will change.” Maybe this is the year she finishes therapy and doesn’t kick me square in the nuts again.

Hey, it’s not cool when outsiders point out and delve into our pain.

It’s bad enough when David Pollack talked about it in mixed company on CFB Live this week; bringing up the many Braves failures, the Falcons and 28-3, and then 2nd and 26 by name.

But reading THAT yesterday from a tool like Dennis Dodd? It’s too much, man.

I’ve read the argument that Murray should’ve spiked the ball and not ad nauseum. That’s all neither here nor there. The culprit to the Dawgs running out of time was Conley not slapping that ball down.

Agreed about Conley slapping down the ball rather than catching it. But that’s precisely why you spike the ball in that situation—to huddle up and tell everyone “only catch the ball in the end zone. It’s either a TD or incomplete and we do it again.” Georgia was out of timeouts. CMR played it they way you are supposed to if the Dawgs had a timeout left. If you have no timeouts left you have to spike the ball in that situation to protect against the exact thing that happened.

I wonder what happened to Mayor. That was always his favorite subject here.

I wonder what happened to a lot of people that used to post a lot. I wonder if Macallen still reads but just doesn’t post. Also, Cojones, WDE and at least a couple others that really made for some great reading and personal insight on things.
If you guys are still vertical and read this, lay some wisdom on us!

Yeah I know there’s several of them that if they showed up today I would recognize them from day’s past. Mayor is just the main one I remember because of his vehement opposition to the no spike decision.
I totally disagreed with him about it so maybe that’s why I remember his handle so well.

If Dawgs had scored, there prob would have been flags flying anyway.
And had AM spiked the ball and Bama got to substitute and the play failed, we’d hear the same ones saying we should have lined up and threw it while we had them on their heels.
            Second guessing is easy, though.

  6. He correctly leads with the 2012 SECCG as prime example of disaster for the Dawgs. I’ve never felt more crushed after a defeat.

I was watching it with a friend at his house. And, as I told him before the game, “THIS IS the national championship.”

It’s why the loss to Bama in the “actual” NCG in 2018 wasn’t so heart-breaking. I knew better than to get my hopes up, and as it all played out I thought, “I’ve seen this movie before.”

That’s why I’m hoping to meet Bama in the SECCG this year — and, again, it will be the actually national championship.

The worst part of the NCG was that the Dawgs really did win it…didn’t we all celebrate after the blocked punt that put the nail in Bama’s coffin?…but had it stolen by a ref that was dumb enough to let the Bama sideline talk him into throwing an unwarranted flag.
I often wake up nights screaming about it.

That ref didn’t throw that flag because he was dumb. He threw it because Saban had been in his ear all night and he pussed out when Nick went ballistic. Nicky was making frantic flag throwing motions on the sideline ’cause that was all he had left, his ass was beat, and ref threw it literally because Saban told him to. But what to call? Ya can’t call PI on a punt, the kicker is still upright…wait, I know!…
        “Offsides”
Damn, Ugly. Now ya got me all worked up.

I was at both games and thought the 2012 SECCG was over when Murray was intercepted. The wife insisted we leave and we’re walking out when the play was overturned. Raced back to my seat and honestly was not surprised at the ending. I did agree with not spiking the ball. That game after the blocked field goal was as so loud it turned to a high pitch whine inside the dome. It was glorious I was sure we would win at that moment.

The 2018 NCG hurt me much worse we were celebrating the NC after the sack for a few seconds. Until the clock strikes 00:00 with Georgia winning the NC I’ll never feel confident again. I’ll savor the Rose Bowl as the greatest win I attended for now. I was broke and not smart enough to understand how special at the time the Herschel years in New Orleans were.

I’m hoping for a fast start Saturday with a soul crushing gator defeat that has their side leaving at halftime.

      • Thanks for the recollections! ….every few months I go to Youtube and pull up a 14-minute highlight reel of the ’17 Rose Bowl. What a game! I watched from my couch, but it was glorious.

I’ll never forget the guy sitting in front of us screaming to all that would listen when Spec’s bombed in that FG just before the RB half “That’s Solid Gold Right There I’m Tellin Ya Solid Gold.

Speaking of angst for our teams from Georgia, the possibility of the Georgia sports curse double header where the Dawgs lose and the braves get eliminated from the playoffs in the same week exists this weekend.

Previous instances of this occurring include
Last year: braves blow 3-1 series lead on Sunday, Dawgs lose to Alabama
2019: braves set a record by giving up 11 runs in the first inning of game 5 of nlds, Dawgs lose to South Carolina that weekend
2004: braves eliminated from nlds by Astros, Georgia loses inexplicably to Tennessee after pounding defending national champion LSU the week before

    This weekend makes me nervous

Well, shit. I was already nervous about tomorrow as I fully expect it to be a game in the 4th quarter (and yes, I absolutely hope that I am wrong and it is over at that point). This doesn’t make it any better.

“Munsoning” didn’t cause me to consume adult beverages in large quantities…being a fan of the Red Coats and the unadulterated love for all things UGA (including UGA football) has caused many of the skippings of the beat to mine heart, my sweating condition, lost loves, damage to perfectly good furniture and perverse use of the american language, for these issues, I’m responsible, just a small contribution by our beloved Lawrence Harry Munson from time to time caused me to itch and scratch…

So if one of us crosses paths with Lucy Van Pelt walking down the street, we should beat the ship out of her for pulling that damn ball away all these years?

It’s been an angst filled lifetime as a Dawg fan. I do have my concerns and my inner Munson was on high alert during the Clemson game until the clock struck zero. However this year I choose joy. I am enjoying this season and I am 100% bought into the long-established UGA “this is the year” mentality.

The difference is I am not looking at this team with red and black tinted glasses. I am looking at this team through a critical lens based on past failures. Stats, eye-test, domination, etc. This team has it. I am going to enjoy it, screw the inner Munson we are checking all the boxes this year.

    Desire – check
    Player upperclassman leadership – check
Talented OC and offense – check
Talented DC and defense – check
    Depth – check
    Destiny – we will see

    Oh yeah regarding FU #FTMF

Dammit you Eyeore types have me considering listening to the game from the Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick to facilitate a quicker jump.
Of course anything can happen. That’s why the game is played and not forfeited.
    But Georgia has superior coaching,
    Georgia has superior talent,
    Georgia has superior depth,
Georgia has been playing at a high level and Florida hasn’t.
A lot of crap has to go wrong for the turds to win this game.
