Whatever the problems are, Mullen’s demeanor and judgments just this week have made them worse. He’s always been a little prickly but it’s worse. The Peter Principle applies.
I don’t think he’s an NFL guy. As Pate put it, he’s an excellent college offensive coordinator who needs someone to go recruit the players. That may mean he could be a good NFL OC, but there’s nothing in his experience that would indicate he would be a successful NFL head coach at this point.
Mullen’s got fu by the short hairs. Fire him and he (and staff members) wakeboard away with a shipload of money, leaving the team in the lurch and school with an expensive multi year rebuilding job.
‘Get the Darth Vader outfit from the closet, honey. I’ve got a meeting with the boosters.’ I’m starting to love the guy.
Past words/statements/actions may or may not push the current FU hc into a buyout check in a year or two, those that require a consistent “W” on that hated rival and have the power no matter the hc’s record will eject that hc as fast as they can write that check, with those remaining 4 games FU fan base ain’t giving any support, media types may not give up on these fresh meat issues that the FU hc refuses to answer, there is no FU good will in a bad bowl game…#FTMF
“I believe that if one person is watching a huge calamity, let’s say a conflagration, a fire, there are always three principle options.
Run away, as far away and as fast as you can and let those who cannot run burn.
Write a very angry letter to the editor of your paper demanding that the responsible people be removed from office with disgrace. Or, for that matter, launch a demonstration.
Bring a bucket of water and throw it on the fire, and if you don’t have a bucket, bring a glass, and if you don’t have a glass, use a teaspoon, everyone has a teaspoon. And yes, I know a teaspoon is little and the fire is huge but there are millions of us and each one of us has a teaspoon. Now I would like to establish the Order of the Teaspoon. People who share my attitude, not the run away attitude, or the letter attitude, but the teaspoon attitude – I would like them to walk around wearing a little teaspoon on the lapel of their jackets, so that we know that we are in the same movement, in the same brotherhood, in the same order, The Order of the Teaspoon.”
I don’t buy the idea that a recruiting-averse coach can surround himself with ace recruiters and solve the problem. The head coach is the face of the program, full stop. It doesn’t matter how much recruits like some assistant. Rodney Garner didn’t forget how to recruit when he left Athens. When you go from selling Mark Richt to selling Gus Malzahn, your results are going to suffer.
Dan sounds like a man that is tired of the pressure that goes with an SEC program that demands a lot from it’s football program. He was a great fit at Miss. St. and should have stayed there.

Mullen is an NFL guy in college. The portal is his draft board.

I don’t think he has the composure to deal with professional players. Can’t handle criticism.

Well he could teach wake boarding – he looks pretty good doing it.

We really need to back off our glee about all this. I, for one, would love to see Dan right the ship and stay there a hell of a long time.
Eventually, if they hire enough coaches, they’re gonna get it right again.

No no no no no! Dammit!
We need Sideshow Dan the Clown to be at Floriduh for as long as as possible! This kind of thing could only hasten his eventual demise there.
