Desperate Florida times call for desperate Florida measures.

Dan Mullen has entered the ass saving time of his career.

Can we say they were Beamer’d?  Too soon?  Those are the Gator fan base’s two most disliked assistants by far, so consider the bone to have been thrown.  Will it be enough is the question.

The upside is that, since recruiting’s already in the tank, this won’t have much of a deleterious impact come signing day.

UPDATE:  Look who got a promotion.

  1. Or, should we say, the shoe has been thrown? Maybe he can pick up some good ASSistants in the transfer portal. I hear Coach O is available.

The FU message boards are not satisfied. They fear MuLLLLLen 2022.

It’s comedic gold in the swamp. Gator tears have sweeten my coffee this morning.

I will be pulling for Florida the rest of the way. I want to see Dan there in 2022 and beyond. Hopefully he can go 10-2 next year with a loss to Us but with a moral victory except on the scoreboard. Remember he’s not Richt he is closer to Goff.

siskey, I have to respectfully disagree. I want Danno to be fully and totally embarrassed against a crappy FSU team, and the administration has no choice but firing him. Why? Who are they going to hire late in November or early December? Yep, I want that hire for the next 4 years.

The Grantham Grift is finally blown. Although some sucker out there will give him another shot.
He’s been a defensive coordinator continuously since 2011. Did it start with us or earlier?

I just hope it’s with someone we play regularly!!!

    • He was the DC for the Browns, and a DL coach for a bunch of college and pro teams, before he got to us, according to Wikipedia.

Speaking of which, the photo on his Wikipedia profile is of him in 2013, in Georgia gear, of course. That really needs to be swapped out for a more recent pic of him in Gator blue.

I can understand fans being unsatisfied with Grantham when his defense surrendered 6.8 yrds/carry and gave up a ton of points. But when your offensive genius / QB-whisperer’s offense puts up 3.8 yards/carry (which was inflated in garbage time), maybe it’s time to not throw all the blame at the DC.

Their problems extend way beyond Grantham and the OL. Just wait though. Mullen will win a game or two early next season, and all the narratives of how he’s a great coach for making more with less will re-emerge.

Here’s a possible scenario for you: Could FU be so desperate that they reach out to Agent Muschamp as DC? That would be wild, but the real question is would he take it?

    • Doubtful. I think he’s having a blast coaching with his buddy with his son on the team.

He doesn’t need the money, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a promotion if Lanning took a head coaching gig.

Will Grantham enroll in the Smart school for coaching rehabilitation?

Who is he going to get when everyone know that Dan’s job is holding by a thread? They’ll have one year, possibly two, to turn it around or go down with Captain MuLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLen standing at the helm of the Titanic. They don’t have the players to turn it around that quickly, and there’s a chance that some of the better UF players are eyeing the transfer portal. Dan might pretty soon find out that the portal is a two way street.
UF should completely clean house if they want to get things straightened out in less than five or six years.

Remember when Third and Grantham had a chance to leave for the NFL, but MuLLLLen convinced him to stay at FU with a raise?

That sure worked out well for us! LOL!

It’s human sacrifice time in Gainesville. Quick Portal Master, to the Atavachron. Back to 2005!

    “…recruiting’s already in the tank”.

I hope you’re right. But Grantham is such a lousy recruiter they may have nowhere to go but up. Let’s hope they continue to dither on picking the new assistants.

    • Who in their right mind is going to take the DC job at the end of the year (especially in time for the December signing period)? MuLLLLet/Dopey/Goofy’s seat is scalding hot. He is likely to be out in 2022.

I need to run upstairs and pop some more popcorn.

This feels kinda like Charlie Weis at UF to me, with a pinch of Butch Jones/UT sprinkled on-top.

I was hoping they’d can Mullen, mostly because I like pure panic & chaos, but this works just fine. They’ll have to pay buyouts, bring in weary new staff with hefty buyouts, and then (most likely) have to fire everyone and pay through the nose again in 2 years.

Cleaning house might still happen. They could lose the second-coming of Tebow to the portal; Richardson has to be looking around him at the (lack of) skill positions and realizing he’s going to be taking a beating over the next 1-3 years. He leaves, who’s left for Mullen to whisper to? Emory Jones is transferring, he’d be a fool not to. All the blah, blah about bleeding orange & blue isn’t worth a hill of beans when “business” decisions are being made.

Mullen ain’t surviving another 2 years. He’ll be fired by the end of next year at the latest.

      • Spell Dawg

I agree. I still think it’s 60/40 he’s no longer at UF after the late signing period. If he stays through next season, very good chance the AD gets the boot, too.

  19. Mullen actually tried to talk to Grantham twice before to save his job but the communications between the two were so confusing they couldn’t get the message right until the third time which just led to his being fired.

To go back to the days of the shark coach, the blood is in the water and the fans are about to go for the kill. What a time to live in Florida. Give the majority of the Florida fans credit, they know why they suck because they know from all the fishing that the fish rots from the head. All their YouTube commentators are calling for his head. All that is saving him is the AD hired him and you know who is already catching hell for that. The AD and Mullen have made UF football MSU football and that is what’s going to get them both.
