My Week 10 Mumme Poll ballot

The Big Ten giveth and the Big Ten taketh away.

Thanks to Purdue, my ballot shrunk by one from Week 9:

  • Cincinnati
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Alabama
  • Georgia

As you can imagine, it didn’t take very long for me to put that together.

I threw in Michigan just for fun.

Just Georgia, Oklahoma, and Alabama for me.

  3. I had your list plus Oklahoma State. Bedlam could be for a playoff spot.

If Michigan only has 1 loss entering the game Lewis Grizzard called two mules fighting over a turnip, I will put them back on my ballot, or they will be out for good if they lose to Ped State on Saturday.

My list has 12, but is shrinking by the week. I’d rather keep including them than removing and adding them back at the end, since these teams below are still technically alive for the playoffs. This is the great thing about not starting a poll until mid-season!

I’m still with all undefeated and 1-loss P5 teams (Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wake Forest, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame). And I’ve included the undefeated G5 teams Cincinnati and UTSA. If Cincinnati wins out, I’ll have some tough decisions on my last vote, which will just include the four I think should make the playoffs. For now, they’re all in my ballot.

Wake and UTSA have ZERO shot. ND appears out if Cincy doesn’t lose.

I totally agree! UTSA especially. Wake was still in the conversation before last week (with enough chaos to create several two-loss teams). Since that could technically still happen, and since I’m including other P5 one-loss teams for now, I’m keeping them in the mix for a little longer. I personally think ND losses this weekend, and Cincy eventually falls in the AAC title game if not sooner. Just throwing UTSA some undefeated love until they lose or the final ballot is submitted.

So if ND & Cincy both win out. There’s a guarantee ND would get in over them if enough ppl ahead of ND lose right?

  6. I had to add Purdue to my list. I am persuaded that they would be national champions so long as they are not ranked coming into the playoffs.

    • I thought some TV talking head said Purdue holds the record for all-time wins against ranked opponents while being unranked themselves…. they might have said 17 such wins in program history?

…not sure if I heard that right.

It’s actually wins over Top 5 programs when unranked. Simply astounding stat.

        • Holy smokes. That IS astounding…. Of course, I can’t help but wonder if it speaks to Big10 being consistently over-rated?…. since I assume most, if not all, of those “Top 5s” must have been Big10 opponents?

Still operating with a ballot of just undefeated teams even though one (maybe 2) has no shot. If or when Cincinnati loses, I will amend to the four I think will get the playoff.

I went back to one this week. My strategy is to choose teams I think have a legitimate argument that they’re the best team in the country. Oklahoma may get on the ballot again. Cindy has a shot if they really ball out down the stretch, but they’ve been squeaking by. Alabama is about the only team outside of them who could play their way into that argument right now.

Stated differently, the teams I put on this ballot are driven wholly by whether I think they have a case to get a shot agains the team that is #1. If Georgia were to lose a game, the ballot expands considerably.

When I read some of y’all talking about your rankings, it seems like you are more interested in what the committee will do rather than what you honestly think about certain teams. For me, it doesn’t matter whether they have a ‘shot’, it only matters that they are winning games until they lose. This stuff will sort itself out; no need to try to game the system, imo.
