Laissez faire game prep

Kirby’s been flogging his defense for weeks to get ready for Tennessee’s pace on offense.  How are the Vols getting ready?

There’s only one possible response to that.

Jimmy Sexton should add a “lying with a straight face” bonus to his client’s contracts.

Huepel looks to me like one of those coaches who have a defense in name only, and don’t expect much out of it. Like Kiffin, Leach and sometimes Lincoln Riley. Maybe he’s lying, but maybe it doesn’t matter to him.

I agree that they aren’t dramatically different in the passing game, though JT’s playbook does have a few more pages in it. But man, if I thought this meant Tennessee wasn’t going to be ready for the Stetson RPO I’d be so excited right now.

The reason its bullshit isn’t that our off. plays are that different. Its more that you’re going to defend each player differently. Its not as if you need a spy on Daniels as one small example. Coverages, pressures, situational defense are all going to be different depending on who is out there.

Daniels will see more exotic blitzes and more man coverage. Stetson will see more zone coverages.

I think he was trying to say that the Tennessee defense will play equally bad against Stetson and JT, so why bother

Vols had that off week to prep for Kentucky who was coming off that game in Starkville. And they gave up 42 points. Y’all.

What Huepel really said is that our defense has not shot at stopping Georgia, and we’re putting all our focus on stopping the running backs so they don’t put up 8 consecutive 7 minute drives.

When you don’t really have a defense, there’s no need to prep it for anything.

  9. Ol Josh ain’t cut out for elite SEC coaching yet. He needs an assistant to read UGA blogs and learn that Stetson can’t win a shootout. It’s a Fact!

I miss that guy posting here.
