“The media didn’t get Dan Mullen fired. Dan Mullen got Dan Mullen fired.”

With an assist, according to Finebaum:

“This is just my theory and Steve [Spurrier] can shoot it down tomorrow. He’s welcome to. I think Spurrier was involved in this,” Finebaum said about Mullen’s firing on The ESPN College Football Podcast. “Scott Stricklin lives across the street from Steve Spurrier. Spurrier hangs out with Stricklin in the [press] box all the time, they’re close.

“The Spurrier wing of the party had had enough of Dan Mullen. They didn’t like his attitude, they didn’t like his quirkiness. They didn’t like the way he berated assistant coaches in front of others. And it rubbed them the wrong way. That much I can tell you. I’m not saying Steve Spurrier pulled the trigger but I sincerely doubt this decision was made without Steve Spurrier’s blessing.”

If the Evil Genius had a hand in canning our favorite Gator coach, that’s another reason to dislike him.  Also, WTF is “The Spurrier wing of the party”, anyway?

The amount of red in Bobby Dodd Stadium at Mark Richt Field on Saturday is going to make that Vanderbilt Stadium crowd we had earlier this year look like an intimidating road game environment.

  2. Sunny beach I hope the old ballsack was involved…that makes this hillbilly soap opera so much better. And, wait to future candidates get a whiff off that gut truck…no one will want that job

“So, Ummm Gator Nation remember how I quit on y’all after kinda going in the bag following our big season in 1996. Well, I want to tell you that I love the Gators and this guy, he ain’t cutting it. You never saw me berating an assistant coach cause I didn’t need any except Bob and Steve Spurrier Jr., I was able to do everything for y’all by myself and that is what a real Ball Coach can do. Let’s get this guy out of here and find us someone who can be like me. Please visit my restaurant, you can see the billboards on I-75. I have replicas of all our trophies and we have Coor’s Light on tap. Go Gators!”

I am SO going into SOS’s restaurant wearing an oversized Georgia Bulldog Magellan fishing shirt, ordering a draft beer, spitting it on the bartender and growling about him serving me piss. Yeah, I know what piss tastes like as I’ve drank Gatorade.
I’ll be concealing a .45 XDS under my shirt because I won’t tote an ass whoopn’ and a gun.

The “Spurrier Wing” is apparently all the older FU ‘turds that played under Spurrier at Floriduh who could see Sideshow Dan the Clown for who he is.

Apparently, there’s this big split among the ‘turds who played under Spurrier (and Zook) and the ‘turds who played under Corch and with MuLLLLen as their OC.

All you have to do, if you can stomach it, are watch the clips of Teblow bleating for Cousin Eddie on SEC Nation for the last month and then look at the clips of Chris Doering’s horrific realization over the last month that he has an absolute clown for a coach at his alma mater to see what I’m talking about.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I kinda like Doering. He’s grown on me with that Monday and Friday morning show on SECN that he has with Peter Burns, who has also grown on me after me reallu disliking him for a couple of years.

I have to agree. I hated Doering for being a Gator for years. But his analysis is usually pretty good and while he certainly leans toward his alma mater, I think that overall he is pretty fair in his commentary of other SEC programs.

Doering is good on SEC Football Final. I don’t watch the other show as much, but the few clips I’ve seen of him he’s been good.

Yup, he didn’t lose Doering until after the South Carolina game (who had defended him while he was under fire). That’s when I thought Mullen would go. The guys who continued to defend him just shut up at that point.

I like Doering…he was a dog killer but straight up guy. Spoke about how hard it is to get in UGA. At the 50th anniversary of UGA Rugby the Club President let the older ruggers know most of us would be Statesboro bound these days.

I think Mullen lays low for a year and then takes over Tech. Or at least that is what I hope. Hell lots of people drive from Greene County to ATL every day. (edit lots of rich people)

That’s not as crazy as it sounds initially. Mullet is such a douchebag he would fit right in at Yech. Also, he’s a bit like Fishfry—a genius in his own mind about that O he runs. He could win 7-8 sometimes even 9 games a season playing in the ACC Coastal and the nerds would love him cause he’s such a dipshit. Wouldn’t really have to recruit, just get the left overs from a really hot talent area. I don’t think Dopey is smart enough to see the opportunity though.

If they hire Bob Stoops we will top their 2 seven in a row streak from the 90s and early 2000s. Can you imagine giving up Oklahoma where you only have to beat Texas to come to Florida in 2021?

  14. I have a hard time believing Spurrier gives enough of a shit about Florida football to murk Mullen like that. Knowing his ego, he’s probably enjoying the chaos, since it gives him the opportunity to say See how much better things were when I was around?

  15. Spurrier once told a repeat that he’d rather be referred to as an “offensive mastermind” than an “offensive genius”, and even he thought Mullen was an insufferably arrogant asshole. Let that sink in.

Right after he quit in 2001 he actually gave Finebaum an amazing list of his reasons: (1) Failure of hated AD Jeremy Foley to defend Spurrier’s honor when insulted by FSU AD Dave Hart over Darnell Dockett/Ernest Graham incident; (2) Failure of hated AD Jeremy Foley to fight for Spurrier’s claim of the 1990 SECC: why should Galen Hall probation apply to Spurrier? (3) Officiating of the 2001 Georgia-Florida game which decreased his margin of victory [seriously! He said this]; (4) Alleged shady recruitment of Fred Gibson…there were about two more that I can’t recall.

Spurrier’s only concern is that as much as possible of the story should be about him, including the headline: Spurrier’s Program fired Mulligan. He is Florida football. It exists for him. His lemon-sucking puss should be on each side of the helmet and painted at midfield. Say his name. Say it. Now say it again. Eleven times, ’cause, you know, that number is, like, magical to Mother Fucker Nation. Don’t be like Ed Sullivan. Say his name. Lotta mustard on each syllable: Spurrr….Re….Ur….

Now put up a seventy-foot banner of him like South Carolina did when he was Super Chicken.

Gentlemen this is so much damn fun, even the mis directed first comments about the bees rambling into a stadium this Saturday drenched in red & black from endzone to end zone is perfect! Just want to fully take in this blog and all the comments here then look at this landscape: u of f uckedup house is on fire! A Uburn fell off the Gus bus and is flipped over in the ditch! T top is still celebrating a meaningless touchdown in a beat down at home, The Atlanta technology school is one more season like this one from giving up football all together (maybe that already happened?)
It’s been 40 years since I have enjoyed a season this much (2017 was close) but from the Charlotte beginning till now, especially watching the utter nightmare years tech and gayturds are enduring, there is only one thing to say!
It is GREAT to be a Georgia Bulldog!

I love Senator’s quote on the site from Kirby re: Mullen’s firing. Notably absent from his comment is any mention of Dan’s coaching ability. There’s damning with faint praise and then there’s outright pissing on someone’s head. Kirby just loves to brighten our day.
