Stingtalk, I don’t even know you any more.

Speaking of hate, what the hell, guys?  No smack, no contrived stats to make your team’s chances look better than they are, no mockery of Kirby’s haircut?

I mean, this is friggin’ pathetic.

At least you’ll always have Dragon*Con.  Judging from the looks of that comment thread, you’ll need it.

This is what Kirby has done. He has made our rivals wave the white flag. Florida now talks about wanting to be like us. Tennessee briefly bragged about scoring seventeen points and then just shut up. Auburn and Tek dont even say anything. I look forward to Kirby silencing Bammer for a bit and then watching erupt in, “We want Kirby, Paaaaaaawl!”

Mark Richt reclaimed most of our rivalries except for Florida and then Kirby Smart absolutely locked them down and also took back the Florida series. The only one he hasn’t taken care of is coming up in two weeks – Channing’s little slip likely indicates how hard he’s been working to take care of the last check box.

Young UGA fans have no idea how bitter this rivalry was once. They may never know. The GT football program seems completely lifeless.

    • No doubt about it. If someone had told me, when I walked out of that game in 1999 with the B.S. call against us on the Jasper Sanks non-fumble, that (a) that 22 years later, UGA still had not lost at Tech, and (b) Tech had sank in the status of being a rival to about 4th or 5th (and, let’s be real, that’s where they are at best…behind Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee, and maybe behind Alabama too), I would have really been shocked.

It says a lot that their last win at home was well before the era of video review, which would have instantly overturned that call.

      • I actually considered the UGA-GT rivalry a friendly one (one of my cousins was at Tech the same time I was at UGA) until the ’99 travesty. From that point on, if we were beating them by 30, I was mad we weren’t beating them by 40.

What would you attribute this to? I think it is in some order: the rise of the SEC as the power in CFB, two great coaching hires by UGA, and the inability of Tech to ever turn their success against us and Clemson into recruiting wins.
I became a fan in 1991 so the glory days of this rivalry were before I was born. I remember Tech tying for the title the year before but living in Athens in 1991 there were concerns about the game but because we had a winning record the concerns were not on par with the Auburn game the week before. That being said I have never gone to Bobby Dodd because I have had the misfortune of attending their wins against us in Athens in 2000, 2008, and 2016. Due to my lack of emotional stability after those games (especially 2000 and 2008) I sit the away game at Tech out.
I would still tank them high. I would place them ahead of Tennessee behind Auburn and Florida.

Meanwhile over on the Florida board they are assembling a staff for a coach that hasn’t been hired.

They do offer some rather interesting suggestions on their “coach”.

“bet the athletic budget on UGA and use it for the buyout. Geoff saves his job by beating the spread?”

  8. As much as I like seeing the Tech program in shambles, I have to admit this rivalry was more fun when GT fans at least had some hope for us to crush (2005, ’06, and ’09 being prime examples). But my first priority is winning nine in a row over those puds. Don’t think I’ll really start getting wistful until then.

I did see a thread about what they need to do to win.. and the winning comment was something along the lines of leaving 100 Colorado gummies in the locker room would seal the deal..

When fans on both sides are expecting these shock-and-awe total annihilation beatings they seldom happen. They happen when certain bounces are there, especially early. It’d be very, very nice. But fortunately, if disappointingly, our team doesn’t have blood in its eyes and MOV isn’t a program priority. It will be settled early and then we’ll probably be putting in the Redcoats and Squab Jones and the Vanderbilt girl kicker.

Realistic scenario: 28-0 or 31-0 at the half, 38-10 or 41-13 final; 4IAR, 5 to go, bring on Bama.

When you’re counting out the clock in the fourth, remember to point a little SW, to the Dome. That shack is ours, too.

I agree. I heard Chuck Oliver on 680 yesterday say that he had reached out to his “man in Athens” and his “man in Atlanta” about their feelings for the game and both basically said the same thing. Georgia is going to win easily but Kirby doesn’t want to completely humiliate Collins. Take that for what you will, but there is probably something to that. Collins has proved that he and his staff in year three are completely in over their heads and it is hard to believe that Tech will make appreciable improvements over the next few years under Collins. Tech only has something like 14 or 15 players left on the roster that were there when Collins held his first team meeting in December of 2019 so this is Collins’ team like it or not. The Dan Quinn-ish slogans and coach speak and culture building were great (and necessary probably) in year one. After year three the same has gotten stale, tired, and clownish with no appreciable improvement in what happens on the field. Tech is poorly coached, poorly prepared, and undisciplined with bone headed penalties on a regular basis. Why lend a hand in Tech deciding to move on from Collins?

      • Georgia beat Tech in 2019 52-7, subpar offense notwithstanding. If that’s not completely humiliating Collins, I can live with it.

First, I meant 2018 as to the first team meeting. Beating Tech 52-7 in 2019 is fine and I have no problem beating them like that this year. I guess what I am pointing out is that Notre Dame could have beaten Tech far worse than 55-0 last Saturday. It was 45-0 at half and in the third quarter Brian Kelly completely took his foot off the gas after adding 10 more points with about 5 minutes or so to go in the third quarter (the last seven on a 70 yard fumble return for a TD). I just don’t think that if Georgia is up by five or six TDs that Kirby tries to make it a 70-0 or 70-10 type of game.

Fully understanding this is UGA vs tech, crootin the city/state and all, could UGA football use nerdfootball as an example to the bammers of what they will be up against in real time, cause just as soon as the warm and fuzzy feeling of whipping that tech ass is gone, it’ll be UGA vs bammers 24/7 till next Saturday …nerdfootball whoda thunk it

52-7 against tech yeah I’m sure Kirby would agree there’s room to improve on that.

  12. These pencil necked poindexters are doing the writing for us: sorta takes the joy out of smack talk…

    “I saw it at -35.
Which is what they scored in the second half two years ago.
this is embarrassing to be a 35 point underdog.”
“Even more embarrassing is that it seems like easy money”

  13. Let’s list our favorite comments from the StingTalk thread:

“That game could literally be 100 to 0 if UGA wanted it to be. Look for our players to show up lethargic and quit within the first quarter. This coaching staff commands none of their respect. Our players seem to be tired of playing for them.”

As a 31 year old, most of my peers don’t take Tech seriously enough. I, for one, am thrilled to see Tech fans so beat down that they can’t muster up any trash talk. That’s when you know you’re really in command of the rivalry. I can only hope some of our SEC rivals sink to this level of despair.

Oh man, it’s not nearly as far if they’re already beaten-down and accepting of their fate!

I mean, it’s still a lot of fun, just not as fun as say beating them 52-7 after a week of their delusional shit talk.

I’m torn on keeping Tech if we go to the 9 game SEC schedule. On the one hand it’s pretty much a Power 5 W that you can pencil in at the start of the year. On the other hand, they usually suck so bad that they kill your strength of schedule.

We should always play Tech. If we go to a new 9 game schedule then there is no reason to “schedule up” and play out of conference teams every year. Beating Tech and keeping them down is more important than playing Wisconsin or whoever in the Dome or in Texas.

  23. Georgia has been pretty poor against huge spreads this season…because they’re mostly built on UGA only giving up about 6 points. Our scoring average is 40pts.

    There’s a reason the line is 35.

If we pop some big plays or cause some early turnovers, we can give the beat down y’all want, but if we only have 21-28 at the half, I wouldn’t expect Fiddy.

Someone at StingTalk said this week is their 20th year anniversary:

Kind of sad that their last home win predates their ancient message board.

If we can’t win, at least öööö a few of them up. We won’t need to do that, though since we are going ham on that ass Saturday. We are going to embarrass them so badly they’ll burn Athens down and transition to soccer or some other öööö. To Hell with georgia.
