“Are you elite, or not?”

When he’s not working the white board, Dan Lanning’s out there rallying the troops.

Go get ’em, D.

I classify him as Kirby JR!

  2. I am guessing we’re going to see some things on Saturday that the team has worked on but hasn’t shown in any game this year. I get a distinct feeling that we have been preparing for Bama in some way in every practice since the Clemson game.

Agreed. We’ve put away everyone since Clempson with relative ease.
Gotta think there stuff we ain’t had to show.

You guys are probably correct about the new stuff, but I would rather see the same old stuff. Squish the shit out of them for 60 mins. Make them bleed out of both ends. Same old, same old.
        Go Dawgs

        • I think there will be plenty of what’s already on film, but I’m betting there are some things that are based off what we’ve shown on film with a twist. There are so many games where we’ve been able to go vanilla because we didn’t need to show the wrinkles.

Just looped 12 seconds of UGA football DC into a 30 minute elite wake up call, that was some good stuff right there now, I don’t care who you are…GO DAWGS…

Keep a very close eye on Lanning. He might get the OU job as soon as today.

Unfortunately, the fact of life is that star employees inevitably get poached for bigger stages. Healthy organizations that produce rock stars inevitably have turnover as others try to replicate the secret sauce. Only thing you can do is appreciate and leverage their contributions while they’re working for you, wish them well when they leave and keep on developing talent.

Also build a culture that is attractive and your star employees may stick around longer. There’s a reason Dabo hangs onto his star assistants and Saban loses them every other year.

I’m sure Lanning is a damn fine defensive coach and is getting deserved recognition as a great DC. I’m not so sure he’s ready to take over as HC at a major program. Hopefully he will hang around and learn more from Kirby who, by the way, is still not complete as a HC. The Dawgs D may be Lannings. But it wouldn’t be what it is without Kirby supervising.

I don’t think that Lanning gets the job or more than passing consideration. They’ll go after Venables for sure since he was DC until Bob Stoops there for like a decade. Josh Heupel and Matt Campbell are also likely candidates. With Heupel the question is would he leave UT for a better job after one season (why wouldn’t he). With Campbell, he has done a lot at Iowa State and probably maxed out what can be accomplished in Ames. Throw in Aranda and Cristobal as well. And don’t be surprised if Luke Fickell is a target for OU also (it is currently a better job than ND and they might be willing to pay more). I just don’t think that Lanning at his age and experience fits what OU wants leading up to jumping to the SEC.

Even the announcers in the last couple of games have made note of how UGA does not let up even against cupcakes and at the end of blowouts. They are still flying to the ball with their hair on fire the last play of the game just like it was the first play of the game. They do not have any quit in them.

If they built a brick wall outside that room everyday, there’d be a dawg fight to see who gets the first shot at breaking through it. It’s not just the bunch of leaders on D out there this year that makes them special, it’s the love and respect they show each other. So fun to watch!

I’ve been mentally preparing myself for a letdown this Saturday since Bama locked up the West, I’m sure I’m not alone. Hope is a bipolar bitch who’s kicked me in the nuts every time I get too close to her. She’s trying like mad to get back in my heart right now. Hey, Lucy did let Charlie Brown kick that football one time, right??? Maybe I’ll give Hope one last shot…she’s promising she’s really changed.

(I’m sure you’ve probably seen it, but it’s too damn good to watch just once)

Like with the Braves, I can’t allow myself to believe that the Dawgs can win it all, let alone this game, until they actually do it.

There’s too much pain in hope and belief. That doesn’t mean I don’t think the Dawgs can do it, even with Bennett at QB. Of course I think they can, but thinking they can isn’t the same as hoping or believing they will.

Once the blessed day does arrive, the relief will be real as will the enjoyment, just like with the Braves.

Man, you got to have confidence. You must believe. First you have to believe the Dawgs will go 15-0 starting with beating Clemson…

I’m frakking with you, Corch! Go Dawgs!

Like with the Braves, I think we can win it all. I just can’t believe or hope in it. I know I’m not the only one who feels like that, either. You’d be surprised how many people just can’t “put themselves out there” like that anymore after all of the gut-punch losses we’ve endured. When the Dawgs lost in January 2018, I was in a funk for a long time. I didn’t even eat for a couple of days afterward; I couldn’t, everything hurt too much. That’s not healthy.

The two primary emotions I will feel when we do win it all, whenever that will be, will be intense joy but also, relief. Just like with the Braves.

I understand, buddy. If the worst happens I’ll shake my head and drive on. Shit, I’m used to it. Kinda numb from taking so many hits. I always fall back to dumbass defilade with the joy of remembering the last one when I was in school FORTY-ONE FUCKN YEARS AGO!

            The Dawgs got this.

Not that anyone cares, but my wife (casual/tag-along football fan) has told me many times that this “THE WORST” motto Kirby has come up with yet.

She says when Kirby says it it sounds like “You’re either LATE or you’re NOT!”

So that’s all I can think of whenever I hear it.

      LMFAO!
1984. I’d just graduated from UGA in December ’83. Working for my old man while waiting to report to Ft. Benning. Zero responsibilities. Drinking every night. Wake n bake. Came roaring into the quarry at 0659 blasting Hot For Teacher from the car stereo. Pop hollers at me, “If you ain’t 15 minutes early you’re late!”
“I don’t feel tardy”, in my best David Lee Roth growl.
All the young guys bust out laughing because they get it.
      Dad doesn’t get it.
I most certainly got it and I didn’t like what I got. He put me down in the hole shoveling mud for the entire day.

      • You graduated the year I was born! =D

You’re story reminds me of hearing my dad (raised a few blocks from UGA) tell the story of when he back-talked his dad (a custodian at UGA) when my dad was in the 10th grade (so, about 1972?).

His dad was working in the yard. WWII vet, 6’3″ 290lbs. 19″ shirt. 52-long coat.

My dad 15-years old, but 6’2″ 140lbs had a smart mouth that day, evidently. And my grandfather proceeded to turn around and pick my dad up by his belt buckle and lift him completely up over his head, arm fully extended. lol

I graduated just before you in 79 . To bad you didn’t get introduced to Rugby at UGA. I have a hunch you might have been capable. I spent some time on Kelly Hill. GO Army Beat navy !

RugbyDawg79, I had a Ranger Buddy, Harry Whitaker (RIP Green Beret), that was on the UGA Rugby club in ’80-83. He went to high school in Scotland. He invited me to play one Friday, spur of the moment. Said my football background and general demeanor would be a natural fit. I was really too busy that weekend.
At our Wednesday PT session the left side of Harry’s face was a scab. Literally a scab. The entire side of his face including his ear. That was the end of any thoughts I had of playing Rugby.

Kelly Hill, Sand Hill. Yeah I fucked her.

    • Jared, my man, I for one give a rip…decades ago, if/when a woman told me she was LATE, from that moment on she had my undivided attention…and unlike some of the scalawags on here, I never once hauled ass to join the merchant marines or went crab fishing in Alaska…besides, more that 3 folks have gotten crabs in Gatlinburg, TN from dirty toilet seats…posting for a friend

Oh snap, you typed elite/Late…disregard everything above…I’ll head over to that Dollywood privy singing Jolene, carry on.
