SECCG advanced stats matchup

Want some context on where this year’s Georgia team fits in terms of other SECCG participants?  Josh has your answers here.

Tl;dr version:

The Bulldogs enter the 2021 SEC Championship with the highest Net YPP in Championship Game history at 3.0. Net YPP is Offensive Yards Per Play minus Defensive Yards Per Play allowed. Georgia’s 30.1% defensive success allowed is also best I can find dating back to 2001.

I’m pretty sure that’s good.

So as much press as the defense gets, deservedly so, our offense is quietly having a dominant season.

Oh and BTW for the first time this year believe we finally have most of our passing game toys back at our disposal: Jackson, big 0, Burton, Pickens to complement bowers, mcconkey and Mitchell….

I’m really getting worried about how not worried I am about this game.

I am worried enough so you can take the week off. Seriously I am very optimistic but am just going to watch and enjoy. I think we are better and I think we have been getting ready for these guys since last October. Only time will tell but regardless Go DAWGS!

And you don’t ever hear that narrative. Our offense is better than Bama’s this year.

People just look at the QBs, and people are still living in the first impression Stetson made last season. Plus the afterglow of ‘Bama’s rampage last season.

Just like pundits will act like next year’s Georgia D is still this year’s Georgia D.

Opponent-adjusted stats inched Georgia’s offense ahead of Bama’s after last week, #2 in the country. Chance to show it off tomorrow

Based on FPI, it’s Georgia’s second most efficient offense under Smart, slightly behind the 2018 offense. By that same metric, and despite all the talk about Alabama’s elite passing game, this is their least efficient offense since 2016 (still ranked third nationally this year, behind Ohio State and Georgia, though).

Kind of like what LSU & Bama brought to this 2019, 2020 games on the offensive side of the ball.

Can someone out there please put together one of those clever memes where the faces of movie scenes are replaced. I’d love to see the fight scene from a Christmas Story where Ralphie is replaced by Kirby and the bully is Saban. Ralphie’s friends can be an assortment of Georgia players and the mom is Greg Sankey. Hell throw Mullen in as the toadie.

  5. To paraphrase the prevailing sentiment of Wall Street, I’m always a big proponent of the Dawgs having an unfair advantage. 🧐

First, Roll, Bama, Bama gives us respect. Then Clay Travis, now the Net YPP! What’s it going to feel like if we lose? At least when you’re a ‘dog, you kind of expect it.
