Swinging dick doesn’t like the way Georgia Tech’s season turned out, because respect.
Zelnak, who chose not to attend the Tech-Georgia game, shared reports he received about the behavior of Bulldogs fans who occupied a large majority of Bobby Dodd Stadium. In past Tech-UGA games there, Zelnak said, Bulldogs fans have been “very raucous” and “less than charming.”
What happened Saturday, Zelnak said he was told, was that UGA fans didn’t even bother to engage Jackets supporters, which to him was even worse.
“It was not a relevant game (to UGA fans),” Zelnak said. “The last three years under (former coach Paul) Johnson, we won 21 games, including in 2016, beating Georgia in Athens. In the last three years of Collins, we’ve won nine. We’ve gone from being relevant to who cares? And that’s sad. It’s sad for the players. It’s sad for the fans.”
I don’t know what I like the best about those three paragraphs — that while whining that the game isn’t relevant to Georgia fans, he couldn’t be bothered to attend himself, or that averaging seven wins a year is all that it takes to make Georgia Tech football “relevant”.
Something on the Flats is sad, that’s for sure.
As someone with a lot of Tech relatives that I like outside of football, just bless their hearts.

I guarantee you in 2025 when we throw the Drought on the ash heap of college football history, we’ll let you nerds know about it. In the meantime:

DIW, I only hope for 2 things between now and 9 in a row:
1) Fech doesn’t decide to end the series.
2) We also take away the 48 point margin record. I’ll admit I was a tad disappointed that Kirby didn’t do that when he had a chance on Saturday.
What would be beautiful would be for both to happen at historic Richt-Smart Field at Vince Dooley Stadium in 2025.

With OU and UT coming in, maybe it’s not Tech who decides to end it.

That we didn’t score 50 is a crime. Kirby should have to pay back some of his salary IMO.

That’s right, DIW. It’s not even tempting to pick on the meek. And GT fans are very quiet and meek now.
GT is like a greasy spot in the road that used to be a snake that everyone
reveled in running over. It doesn’t even make a bumping noise under the tires.
Very gracious of them, however, to provide the Dawgs with a whole extra week of focusing on Bama.

You nailed it. Built in cup cake just before the SEC Championship Game. We get the benefit of beating a Power 5, ACC opponent and conserving our resources in the run-up to the SEC. Tech gets the benefit of a real ass beating to end their season. Fact that it was at Historic Mark Richt Field with a majority of Georgia fans in attendance and fewer Nerds than a Tech Saturday morning freshman seminar on personal hygiene makes it all the better.

No doubt, Dawgs fans showed up..that part was obvious. This Zelnak asshat didn’t even bother to do that.

Didn’t they angrily run off former AD Dave Braine for suggesting 7 win seasons were a realistic goal for GTU? I think 7 looks pretty good over there right about now.

So if Georgia fans hoot and holler and get in Tech fans’ faces, we’re obnoxious and classless. But if we don’t, we’re hurting Techies’ feelings by making them feel unimportant?
Make up your fuckin’ minds, guys. And seek therapy.

It was sad… There was no energy or juice, the game was completely soulless and as this guy said, the Tech fans were few and far between…. (And yes, I sat through 1990, 1998, 2000, 2008, 2014 and 2016, and nothing makes my blood boil like watching them parade around with the hedges….) I dunno what they should do, but they gotta do something!

Cheer up, Techies. Good times ahead! The Division I Football Oversight Committee is adding new bowl games faster than Geoff’s receding hair line.

I heard nota single “to hell with Ga” on Sat. I think some frat boys were talking trash before the game but I couldn’t understand them. I was tempted to go ask them if they should have kept Paul Johnson to see if they’d get in a fight with one another.

Those two egomaniacs just publicly cut the legs off under the Tech administration. They actually named names of people they want fired.
If an investor in their companies went public saying that he or she wanted Zelnak or Garrett and needed to fire a specified VP for Sales those clowns would be outrage.
Their desires to let the world know how much clout they have made them do it.

Less than charming? I didn’t know I was supposed to act like I was at a cotillion class when I attend a football game. That dude is a puss.

There’s really not much for the nerds to get their gold & white pantaloons in a wad over…most trade schools don’t have a football program either. Don’t get pissed at us because we don’t acknowledge things that aren’t a reality…like your offense and defense.
Tuck Fech and that hunk o shit they rode in on.

Didn’t engage the Tech fans… What Tech fans? And what do you say to a Tech fan? I wish you were better, so we could beat you by less? I seriously considered putting up a Banner that said “Welcome to Mark Richt Field”, but guessing it wouldn’t have stayed up long. The only people with a Tech name attached to them that seem to know what they were doing were the seating attendants and concession folks. And they looked ‘real happy’ to see us. We spend money, we tip – basically we paid for a lot of stuff for Tech last Saturday (a lot). Here’s the other thing. As dominant as the crowd was, there were still empty seats. Tech is so bad, there were Georgia fans who refused to spend money on this game, because they knew it would be over quickly – and boy were they right. Think about that!
Surreal doesn’t even describe it. There were two Tech fans in the sitting right below me. Nobody was ugly to them; but it was like ‘they’ were the visitors. A couple of more season ticket holders who stood up and clapped when the car went around the field. They were completed surrounded by Georgia fans, and none of us knew each other. Chatted with some of these folks, but it was like we were all at a family reunion with distant cousins sitting around us.
Cannot help but to wonder if it occurs to boosters like this, that they are the actual one’s who put Fish Fry in and kept him so long. They are the one’s who gave Collins a 7 year deal. They are the one’s who invested heavily into their baseball stadium, but have only manage to build a sparkling locker room so far.
About 5 minutes in are car down the road, is a team playing in a better stadium, with better fans, a better coach (by far – by the way), a better plan that at least last week, would have likely beaten Georgia Tech.
Like the Senator said, when you are pining for the good ole days of winning 7 games…. You’ve got a huge problem.

That’s some good reading, Ran A.
Great description of the atmosphere and polite interaction between the fans. Your words picture it as if I were there (which I wasn’t).
When there’s no competition, rivalry kind of wanes.

Random question, with a “soft” ticket market like that, can you still find hard ticket scalpers outside or is scalping relegated to sitting on your phone App at the tailgate waiting for prices to fall out ?

I have seen guys trying to hustle “paper” tickets (mostly look like the old print from home tickets/bar codes on a whole page of printer paper) everywhere this year (Charlotte, Athens, Jax, Atlanta), but I’m not sure who is buying from them or why – seems to me you are just asking to get burnt….

Sat in Tech Club seats I bought cheap from GT Booster who thought it was better to see Falcons in Jacksonville. Tech Club was majority red wearing dog fans,. Sat next to Tech booster one of whom barely looked up from his phone the entire game. Tech fans didn’t care about game. Tech frats had signs in favor of Bama. Only heard the Budweiser cheer once.

My 16 year old son went to the game with his best friend’s family who are Tech season ticket holders. My son and his friend sat in the student section. My son wore a Georgia jersey and in the first quarter he texted me and said that it appeared that a majority of the people in the student section were wearing red.

I had a good old time at BDS. They sell beer now, and the lines were not very long. It was also intriguing to navigate passage from the West to the East stands in their WWII relic of a stadium — going down passageways to dead ends to erector set stairs — I thought I would have to pop through a hatch to get to my level.

We use the Tech game to get out of the house, get away from Aunt Nel and Uncle Larry, shake off the turkey coma and stretch our legs. Frankly our jewel box 59k Atlanta stadium with the skyline view is kind of charming for the occasion.

That letter is an embarrassment and I know several Tech people that feel exactly the same way. When Tech is once again not bowl eligible in 2022, not only are the Golden Jackets going to get rid of Collins but Stansbury will be on the chopping block as well.

I could set my watch to the comments about fans at the game. Reminds me of walking out of Neyland in 2005 and a seriously butt hurt UT fan talked about how they used to have fun in Athens with UGA fans. He got quiet when I asked if he was referring to the Era when they won every match up.

That’s funny. A Tech fan in the bathroom (the ONLY Tech fan in the bathroom) in the East 200’s last Saturday said out loud, “This is the nicest you Georgia fans have EVER been, and I’ve been coming to this game for 40 f******* years!”

Personally, I kinda felt bad for that program for the first time ever. Outside of the Directional Louisiana games, that was one of the most ho hum games I’ve ever witnessed. The rivalry seems to be in the worst shape it’s been in a few decades.
I mean, you’ve got a coach who would have played with a running clock if he’d had the choice and it was evident from their first offensive possession. The good news is that it emphasized how good this Georgia team really is.

I never feel bad for that bunch. All I have to remember is that they celebrated Munson’s passing and all of the Ugas that have died. Georgia people were pretty darn respectful of Al Ciraldo’s passing and no one really likes a yellow jacket, period.
