It’s not that Georgia isn’t a good team.

It’s that Georgia isn’t capable of beating Nick Saban.

You’re either elite or you’re not. I thought we had avoided our annual bed shitting game.

It’s been 6 years of the same thing.

When you play other elite teams sometimes they will get the best of your defense and you gotta be able to score points. Saban figured this out, and we’ve beaten it to death on here.

In the SEC CG or the playoffs you will face a team that gets the best of your defense.

Kirby spends the regular season giving the game reps to a QB with a ceiling too low to win the shootout instead of getting the elite QB ready. maybe Daniels is still injured, but then he needed to be getting Beck or Vandergriff ready. Yeah, there will be some ugly outings, but your defense will save you against Mizzou, USC, and GT.

Like you, I’m exhausted by it. Still love my Dawgs though!

        Largely, yes.
But Ole Miss has one, didn’t matter. A&M doesn’t have one, didn’t matter. It’s a weird game. I would have been thrilled with 12-1 and a playoff berth at beginning of the year. The season will be defined by our playoff performance, not by yesterday. Everybody in the P5 lost a game this year. Regroup and go dawgs.

I agree that 12-1 and a playoff berth is great.

Ole Miss doesn’t have our talent though. Imagine if we had a QB who played at Corral’s level or if Ole Miss had our defense. Sure we still might have lost with an elite QB, but we would have been in it until the last play.

Tru dat, UGA football playoff season started yesterday, UGA is in the cfp, UGA football is gonna’ be 1 of 4 playing later this month and be ready for the “narrative”, (we are #1), enough mistakes/decisions were made by a ton of UGA staff, players etc…move on to next week and the weeks after, I know it’s the day after an ass whipping, it’s feels like a hangover that I know will get better by noon today…it doesn’t…GO DAWGS!

As much as anyone, I have not been a major Bennett fan, but let’s be clear: he didn’t lose this game by himself. A pretty good argument can be made that the defense lost this game, and an even better argument can be made that coaching lost this game.

Bennett played as well as he has all season. But when the defense could not stop Alabama, it became obvious that Bennett just wasn’t going to win a shootout. Some of us have been screaming that for a while. JT might not have won the shootout either, but we’ll never know because 1) he didn’t get much in the way of meaningful reps in the 4-5 games, and 2) stubborn Kirby won’t admit he is wrong about something.

Maybe the most telling moment came when Van Pran snapped the ball (I assume because he saw the defender offside) and it hit Bennett in the face mask I guess because he wasn’t looking. That didn’t lose the game, because the ref saw the player off side and we got to keep the ball. But it is symptomatic. Nolan Smith trying to pick up a Bryce fumble and run instead of covering it only to lose it back to Young also is symptomatic.

Having an inner Munson is hard to shake after games like this one.

We keep chasing Saban, but he’s a step ahead by the time we catch him.

Kirby needs to rethink somethings again.

One thing seems possible. Their coaches spent Iron Bowl week scheming how to beat UGA. They gambled they could beat Auburn on rolling out the talent alone. Worked, barely.

      • I’ve thought about this, too. With their “jimmies and joe’s,” they could do that against Auburn and still pull out a win.

Another thought from the wee hours of the morning: We haven’t had to play a complete 60 minutes since the first game of the season. Bama had done that several times this season. They may have been battle weary, but they were also battle wise. From the coaches to the water boys, we weren’t.

agree on this, thought about it last week too watching iron bowl. it makes total sense. if they lose to AU but beat us, still 11-2 SEC champs, they get in the playoff. They worked 40 hours on us and it showed (20 hour max allowed per week practice in season). If we did the same bc of Tech, we were not as effective clearly.

I think we get reduced practice time limits after exams, so hopefully we are able to reset and prepare better all the way around. . .

Well first of all I agree with Moe. This keeps happening for one reason and one reason only and that’s Nick Saban. I don’t think the man has anything in his life other than his “profession” so he’s probably not going anywhere. Kirby has to figure it out.

What stands out most to me from yesterday is the way Georgia couldn’t get anywhere near Bryce Young. Ever. Jordan Davis was getting double and triple teamed and nobody could get into the same zip code as Young. That doesn’t make sense.

As to how they played the way they did against Auburn and Arkansas and then played that way against Georgia, it was perfect for Saban. He got to play the disrespect card. They played their best game of the season and played a perfect game. They won’t be able to replicate that. Especially not without Metchie. I still believe Georgia is better. They can’t do what they did relative to Young again though.

      • I honestly see no evidence at all that GA is better than Bama. That was an eviscerated & felt like if we played them 10 times, we’d lose 11 of them. They’re offensive line absolutely dominated the strongest part of our team, & I would guess they will do it again if we meet them in January.

I’ve already shifted gears. Determined not to wallow in this one. This is the only site I’ll go to right now. The 247 site will be Toxic as Toxic can be the next few days – no thanks.

My head is staying in the play-offs, likely drawing Michigan. Now, the committee has a problem. The last thing they want is another SEC Final, so they very well may pit Georgia and Bama in black to back games, just so Michigan is on the other side. And yes, Michigan will beat Cincinnati.

But… If they do this right (Bama, Michigan, Georgia, Cincinnati), then Georgia can beat Michigan with either QB.

All due respect to Stetson (he’s a damn good Dawg), but he’s had to cracks at Alabama with the same results. I think its time to get JTD back in the saddle again and let’s see if Doc Holiday can get Georgia to the promise land.

Rewatched a few key moments. Bizarre and genius game plan by Alabama. Truly.

In the 2nd qtr, there were percentage running downs like third and 2 or second and 7 where Alabama sees our “big” package and runs bonkers low percentage seven-step drop plays with long developing skinny posts or verts. They hit on tons of them.

They turned the second qtr into flag football and we had no answer.

Could a better QB have tried to keep pace? Perhaps. But once the team with thoroughbreds got their foot on the gas and knew what they had, this game was over.

They scored 24 points in the second qtr, but were only up by 7 at the half. Our defense got punched in the mouth, but did find away to keep us in the game.

The offense’s 2nd half drives were:
      Interception
      Turnover on downs
      Pick six
      TD
      Punt
      Turnover on downs

Our offense netted zero points in the second half.

The defense/gameplan killed us in the first half, but we were still only down 7 at the half. The critical turning point in my kind was when at the start of the 2nd half we forced Bama to punt and had a really nice drive going. We moved into scoring range only to have Bennett throw a terrible INT. It seemed like all the air left us at that point and Bama spread the lead to 14 before we had the deadly pick 6 INT that effectively ended the game. The defense played much better in the 3Q, but not enough to overcome those 2 turnovers. I left in the 3Q at that point more frustrated than ever at a UGA team.

The offensive possessions in the 3rd qtr were back-breaking for sure. A TD to pull even after the Bama punt would’ve been huge. But the die was cast much earlier. They had our number when they had the ball.

I don’t think—even with the glowing press—Alabama’s offensive line and receivers are getting enough credit. I genuinely think if Stetson Bennett was the Bama QB last night and Bryce Young played in our scheme with our players, it’s still a convincing loss. Bama’s game plan was that sound and their receivers that open.

  11. The only way to beat Saban is to sneak up on him somehow. Kirby wants to go out there and man up and beat him. You must exploit asymmetries to win against Saban. The asymmetry A&M had was accidental; their QB had a monster and unrepeatable game. AU, Arky, and LSU played with nothing to lose because they had nothing to lose. Kirby played the same plan he has all season and Saban just said “who’s yo daddy.” The only coach to show the capability to repeatedly exploit his asymmetries against Saban so far is Dabo. We’ll see if Kirby can learn.

I really don’t understand what I saw last night. We couldn’t get to Young to save our life. It’s like our guys had concrete in their shoes. Then we had Bama WR’s running absolutely uncontested in our backend. How is that possible again and again? The entire point of zone coverage is to prevent crap like that. Are these busted assignments?

I don’t know what to think about the QB situation. Bennett had some nice drives but the pick six was the dagger to the heart. I don’t even know if a better QB would have won the game. I feel like the defense lost that one for us.

Noon just needs to hurry up and get here. I’m 95% sure we’ll be in the CFP field, but that 5% uncertainty didn’t permit me much sleep last night. If it does come to pass that we’re selected, then we can wipe the slate clean, refocus, and work like hell over the next month to try to win two ball games.

I’m not looking forward to the trash talk I’m gonna hear from Bama fans at work tomorrow, but it will be a little more bearable to know we can still get another crack at them this year. However, our team, starting with the coaching staff, needs to do some serious soul-searching in the coming days if we want to finally get over this monstrous hump.

Well, we did figure out some things against Bama’s offense in the second half yesterday (unfortunately far too late), and they won’t have Metchie in a potential rematch. There also isn’t any possibility of our guys going into that game overconfident like they perhaps were yesterday.

That’s not to say I’m at all confident we’d win a rematch with Bama, but I do think we’d have a chance.

      Liked by 2 people

      • I think the real question after yesterday is, can we even get to a rematch with Bama. We clearly have not played a true quality team until yesterday & showed we have massive shortcomings both offensively & defensively. If our players spend anytime looking ahead to a Bama rematch, we won’t get past Michigan. It better be all hands on deck for the semifinal.

Theres no mystery. Theres no magic. Thats all bullshit.

    Its just football.

Any objective observer could see that we had not been tested by a qb/wr combo who could take the top off the defense. We hadn’t had to deal with a qb who could extend a play and extend drives. 9 is a special plater and played like it.

I warned several that we would not know that our defense could avoid a “track meet” game and my concerns that Stet would be ill equipped to keep us in such a game.

There are disappointments to be sure, but I can’t say I’m shocked. I do think, having seen it, our defenders will be much better prepared if they get a second shot.

I am thankful fir Kirby and no, we are not related.
Disappointed that we did not beat Bama.

I thought the fumble that we didn’t recover right before halftime was the play of the game. Fall on the ball and we go to halftime tied. Try to pick it up (like we did), they recover, get the TD, we’re down 7 with them getting the ball to start the 3rd quarter. They had all of the momentum. Not saying we win the game, but it’s changes everything going into halftime.

I’m about to quit thinking about this for a few weeks. I’ve read all the comments. This is only site I read. Before I take a hiatus, I have a question about Bennett v. Daniels debate. Did anyone else get the impression that. Bennett showed a little bad attitude last night? Seemed to me the be be gesturing at receivers and deflecting responsibility.. If I am right, is that a big deal? I know we have no idea what goes on with that team, but my impression of Bennett is he seems non-endearing, like maybe he resents being questioned as the rightful starter. I wonder if the team will continue to rally around him?

That’s good. I had switched to radio in my truck by then (hoping for different result). I just noted in 2nd quarter it seemed like he was giving Bowers and a few other receivers grief after some throws. He also seemed sort of unhappy in some of interviews leading to game. Maybe reading too much into it.

        • He gave them grief because they weren’t executing. Bowers stopped on a ball when Stetson was leading him. Cook was checked into the flats and ran a wheel. Both on critical 3rd downs. Just a mess.

Caution! Old man rant. I did something yesterday I have not done in my 60+ years of being at, watching the Dawgs play on TV or listening on radio, I turned the game off in the 4th quarter. I’m too damn old to watch my team get beat like this any more.
We all knew our weaknesses or perceived weaknesses but to watch the Dline our greatest unit ever not be able to contain the QB or to even get a decent rush on him was a shock to my system that I couldn’t take any more.

The defensive backs were exposed by the other worldly Bama receivers. They either didn’t get the right calls or were just too screwed up to cover all the open WR’s Bama had. Even after NO. 8 went down they torched us.

The offense line was just offensive. If JT had started the game he would have been in the hospital by half time. We could run some but our QB was running for his life and should have run quicker on many occasions than he did.

Stetson is a damn good dawg but he is not as good as half the Group of 5 QB’s I’ve watched this year. He has an uncontrollable desire to make something happen that he is not physically able to do and it gets him and the team in deep trouble.

At this point I’m not to sure the CFP Committee will let us stay in the top four with ND at 5. I think they will give us a nice parting gift of a NY bowl game but we will be #5. If we had played Bama closer I would feel better about our chances. As for beating Michigan, if we do get in, I wouldn’t beat on it. I watched their games against OSU and Iowa and they are for real. If our Dline plays like they played against Bama we will be embarrassed again.
