Back to the protocols

Nick Saban isn’t going to let COVID derail another national title run without a fight.

With COVID-19 cases surging nationally and games in the NFL being impacted by the pandemic again, Alabama is returning to its safety protocols from a year ago as it prepares to take part in the College Football Playoff.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Monday that the team is back to wearing masks in the facility and social distancing during meetings. He noted that more than 90% of players are vaccinated and have received their booster shots.

“Am I concerned?” Saban said. “I’m always concerned when there’s an issue out there, and we want to do the best we can to help our players be concerned about the issue and respect it so they have the best opportunity to stay safe.”

Are the other three teams in the CFP field are following suit?  I would assume so, but who knows?

They’re only following suit if they are as committed as nick is to winning. Nick may or may not be doing useful things, but if your program is taking fewer precautions and has an outbreak, the finger pointing will be endless.

The precautions are a lot to ask of everyone, especially at Christmas. But, NCs don’t come cheaply. I respect anyone who can grit it all out in an attempt to give themselves the best shot to win.

I heard Smart in his press conference Express concern about the existing wave of infections. He said he worries about when the players leave the controlled environment on campus and go home. He said Courson had mitigation protocols but he did not elaborate. Since the statement did not contain the words “Stetson,” “JT” or “quarterback” no one was interested.

    Aren’t we 100% vaccinated?

Stop testing vaccinated asymptomatic people…the NFL is going this route…

  5. I hadn’t even thought about CFP in relation to surging Covid. Very interesting…. are there parameters set for what triggers a postponement of a game? Is it a % of players ruled “out”?

I’d be surprised if Covid doesn’t affect player availability for the playoff for at least some of the teams. Maybe all.

He should be concerned because the vaccines (aren’t vaccines) and don’t work to stop the spread and the masks people use are a joke. The leagues are almost all 100% vaccinated and its still spreading.

Vaccines, with very few exceptions, keep one from dying of covid.

Vaccines also lower infection and therefore “spread” rates relative to the unvaccinated but far less than 100% of the time.

Large numbers of unvaccinated persons lead to mutations and variants like delta and omicron.

In short, get vaccinated and get the booster. If you won’t do it for you, do it for someone you think is worth it.

That is an illogical statement. If it doesn’t stop the spread why should a healthy person get it for “someone else that is worth it” that is completely bogus and simply plays on fear. Get it if you are afraid of dying or being hospitalized or don’t think your immune system can handle it, but getting it for someone else….no, sorry that isn’t statically supported given the raw data.

If the infection rates are lower for vaccinated persons (and they are) then even if they spread it equally haven’t we reduced spread by being vaccinated?

Not arguing the actual numbers, as there is a quantifiable differential if not yet determined precisely, “if” 70% of unvaccinated persons get infected upon exposure and 35% of vaccinated persons do and both groups of infected people spread it equally:

aren’t we better off if everyone is vaccinated?

Believe what you want. Its not a “vaccination”. More people have gotten it and died this past year with widespread vaccinations than the prior year when nobody was jabbed. The data and experiential reality doesn’t support anything you are saying. It is a very contagious virus and will spread regardless of masks or these billions of dollars in therapeutics that do nothing to stop the spread and require 2nd and 3rd and 4th boosters and are damaging young people and they have zero data on long term effects…..no. 95% of the population has zero risk other than some symptoms for a few days. 99% will not die. Not the place to argue this so moving on.

Understood. The tin foil hat won’t wear itself.

“They” only want you to take it just like “they” sold us us on “round Earth.” The motives of “they” aren’t clear but are definitely malicious and frightening. Nearly as scary as “facts.”

How about getting the vaccine just so my health insurance premiums don’t go up? If you can’t come up with any other reason, then do it for the money!

Btw there is a doctor in Mongolia who will take that measles “not vaccine” out of you that your mom forced you to get. And the dip tet.

Yeah, but that didn’t stop you from posting the rest of this to get a reaction. Don’t do it again.

I seem to remember that vaccinations provided immunity from the particular disease..i.e., smallpox, polio, etc….flu shots, for example, are not vaccinations but are intended to fight the contemporary variant of influenza each year, hence the need for annual injections. We do not have real vaccinations for COVID but, including boosters, merely injections to lessen the impact of the disease. amirite or not??

Can you imagine being a college football coach and having to deal with all the misinformation? My relatives and friends in HR and administration are tearing their hair out, and those are cut-and-dried employee relationships with crystal-clear guidelines.

The good news is that the NCAA, for once, took a sensible, non-micro-managing approach to this. And Kirby seems to have the trust of his players.

      Cat herding is probably easier.

I used to think that the way society and schools programmed people to be obedient and yield to authority without questioning was wrong and/or counterproductive.

Lately, well, I’m just not so sure…. People be fucking stupid… and paranoid.

Makes you consider that “because I said so” may be all the information some people can effectively and reliably process.

At least “freedumb” hasn’t had a negative impact on college football in 2021…so far.

That’s just too much to handle.

Why can’t everyone’s opinions be my opinions?

Why can’t wordpress figure out what I think and then post my thoughts with new names on a blog and then I can read them and hit the “like” button? Call it something like circlejerk.solo.wordpress.com.

Seriously though as frustrating and annoying as I find many posters I’ve never once thought I was entitled to a world where I could avoid exposure to them. I just don’t get that, at all.

JT apparently has Covid and is quarantining. Other position groups likely affected. I’m guessing this is the chapter of the 2021 story where it all comes apart due to Covid.
