Not the bowl game opt out you were expecting

I dunno if Drinkwitz is making some sort of three-dimensional chess move for the recruiting trail, or what.  But if the kid wants to play, why make him sit out?

Agreed. How much money did Azeez make last year by playing in the Peach Bowl?? Not a good look for Coach Jedi if it’s true.

Speaking of, lots of Dawgs on that Giants team.

Certainly adds a new dimension to the school that says you should limit an RBs carries because he only has so many to use over a career.

Strange, still sucks having to play them every damn year.

^ this – I get spun up every time I think about it. Hard to quantify the level of downgrade to our schedule and we can’t get out of this annual matchup soon enough.

Some coaches are trying to minimize the bowl games. It gives you a built-in excuse if you lose, and nothing but upside if you win. But as Dan Mullen found out, once you start telling your players that only certain games matter, it can go south very quickly. Eli basically said their game against BC this year didn’t matter, and now this weirdness. If I were the Missouri AD, I’d find another coach.

  6. This situation is super odd. This absolutely sends the message to your team that the game doesn’t matter. The only possible explanation is that Drinkwitz doesn’t want to say there’s something else.

Does he have an injury he was trying to play through? That would make at least some sense. Otherwise it’s bizarre.

  8. Like all good coaches, emphasizing the ME over TEA….wait.

It’s got to be a player wanting to play through an injury, and adult heads telling him it’s not worth the risk.

Other possibility: suspended, but this is less embarrassing for the player.

Recruiting ploy, he can now tout that he cares for his players future.

This is just for publicity. How many of you even knew Mizzou was playing a bowl game?

So why did Drinkwitz let the kid play against South Carolina, Florida, and Arkansas? After they took the Georgia loss for SEC L #4 they had no expectation of winning or sharing a division championship. If even the coach says this bowl doesn’t matter since it isn’t for a championship then how meaningful were those games, really? Let the trainers play them and keep the good players healthy for next year.

Nah, I tend to think either this kid is hurt somehow and they want to get him healthy or he opted himself out to get healthy and the coach is covering for him.

Now that Mullen is gone, is Eli the 2nd strangest coach in the SEC, behind the Pirate? Weird dude, like Gee-off at 404 Waffle House.

At least he punked Mullen after Mizzou beat the Gators.. so he has that going for him.
