Michigan’s gotten a lot of praise for breaking big gains on offense this season. They’ve notched 66 plays of 20+ yards so far.
You know what, though? Georgia’s been better.
Because of the dominance of its defense, Georgia’s offense rarely needed to operate at peak efficiency this season. That was convenient since the Dawgs were wrecked by injuries and absences at playmaking positions. Even still, they enter the CFP with a greater number of explosive plays of 20+ yards (70) than Michigan (66). Georgia may not hit the massive gainers often — as title-winning teams for LSU and Alabama have the last two seasons — but the Bulldogs can move the football in 15-yard chunks and find another gear offensively.
And on the other side of the ball, it’s not close. Even after the defensive debacle we saw in the SECCG, the Dawgs still lead the country in opponent plays of 20+ yards. Michigan ranks 32nd.
My concern isn’t so much raw physical talent — Michigan’s got good players, but they don’t have a Williams or Metchie — as it is getting out-schemed and watching a busted play break big. If Georgia’s defense can limit that, it should make for an easier watch, that’s for sure.
Dare I say it “we ain’t played nobody”

This defense absolutely should control the Michigan offense if they play to their potential. If Michigan doesn’t get cheap field position by turnovers or special teams, I just don’t see them grinding out drives against us.

And that is where UGA football lives, from the “D” side of life, should meeshigun get up by 12 – 14 with their d and willingness to run/grind it out, number of opportunities for UGA football “O” shrink to good luck…GO DAWGS!

I know that Arkansas is no Michigan, but they aren’t chopped liver either, and they came into our game looking to play this style of football and game. We gave them the choke hold. Dawgs need to wreak havoc on defense and the rest falls into place.
Our whole team feeds off rattling an opposing QB. To hell with their trick plays and slot receivers. Maximum discombobulation should be the defensive game plan.

Lol, I’m ALL for an easier watch.

My concern is with the coaching staff, unfortunately. We can’t get fooled by trick plays, or try to play cute with zone coverage and containment (a la the SECCG). Line up, knock the crap out of the other guy, and attack the field.

Exactly. Get back to breaking bitches. I mean physically…physically break these bitches. I think we got caught up thinking and not playing in the SECCG.

Bowers will probably end up game MVP. Guy’s a cheat code at this point.

I agree, but I also want to see the Big 0 road grade one of those edge guys from Michigan. After he does that a few times, I want to see the Big 0 down the seam.

I know they have those big 60+, 70+ yarders which are generally a result of either
a) defenders being horribly out of position
b) happenstance (defender falls down, wayward tipped ball is caught, etc)
c) talent overmatch
I think the likelihood of (a) and (c) for our Defense in this game is low. But (b) has killed more spreads than a fat kid at a marmalade contest.
I’ll be interested to see if the freakish closing speed we’ve seen out of this D is able to overcome the occasional “successful” gadget they pop. Not being able to close on Williams cost us points twice… but as we’ve said – Williams ain’t in Miami.

Here’s another interesting stat:
Michigan is all time 0-9 vs top 3 opponents.

At this point of this season I should know what to expect. I’d love to see that team that went 12-0 and enjoy an easy game to bring in the new year. This game is like a present that I have no idea what I’ll really get.
Go Dawgs!
