Musical palate cleanser, cool, fool edition

Man, I played the crap out of Todd’s Something/Anything? in college, especially this song.

That guitar opening still knocks me out.

I’m looking for that album in vinyl. I just found out one of Mrs. Cowdog’s very favorite songs is “Hello it’s Me”.

TBG has liked TR since watching Live From Daryl’s House filmed at Todd Rundgren’s house in Hawaii.
Shiiiit, I got some vinyl I might give you, Uncle Got. No TR. I have low standards when it comes to music.

I’ve seen that one. “Live from Daryl’s House” is actually pretty good. Since “we” got the Victrola our weekly date nights require a stop at the local vinyl shop now to see what’s come in, so “we” can get an ABBA double album or anything by John Cougar.

          “ABBA.”
Oh I’m sorry, Dawg. I wore all my ABBA albums down to the flat with my Audio Technica dual moving magnet cartridge. Also wore out my Starland Vocal Band albums including their fifth and final Christmas album. Got a pristine Buster Poindexter album I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

What? You don’t think “Afternoon Delight” is one of the best songs to ever be composed?

So I was up there thumbing through those albums. One I didn’t know I had was “Duane and Gregg Allman” recorded in ’68 and released in 1972. It has the first recording of “Melissa” and “Nobody Knows When You’re Down And Out”. Original cover art. Probably first pressing. A little cherry my older brother (RIP Charlie) left me when he returned my albums in ’89. Been in storage ever since. He held on to my shit while I was in the yankee Army as I looked after his while he was in Germany ’76-’79.
You can have my old roomdog’s hard played original John Cougar album, Uncle Got. He hasn’t asked for it back in near forty years. You’ll have to ask TBG for her Debbie Gibson and Toni Basil albums. Ain’t got no gotdam ABBA. Gordon Liddy must’ve snaked em all when he got out of jail, that fuckn asshole.

      • Yep… that version of Last Ride is one of my favorite songs. Good name for a sailboat as well.

A great injustice/oversite was finally corrected in 2021 when he was voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Great song that I listened to as recently as Sunday. I knew Rundgren more as a producer when I was coming up, so only discovered the track a few years ago on the “Poptopia!” collection. (I got “Something/Anything?” not too long thereafter.)

I’m guessing you’re a fan of the “Under the Covers” series by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs (who appears not to have aged a minute since the ’80s):

  6. I don’t love everything from TR, but there is a ton of great stuff. This album (and this song) is at the top. The fact that he played all the instruments on sides 1-3 blows me away. The Utopia albums are fantastic power pop too
