Oh, what a relief it is.

You’ll be pleased to know that in the aftermath of Georgia’s national championship, the conventional wisdom on Kirby Smart has moved from “could he be on the hot seat with Georgia fans?” to “untouchable($$).

Although we should hesitate on that a wee bit until Mr. Conventional Wisdom chimes in on that front, probably.

  1. The people who thought Kirby was a year away from the hot seat never knew what they were talking about. The fans who were starting any chatter are the same ones that were taking shots at SBIV’s decision to stay within days of winning a national title. That segment of the fan base is happy until the next loss.

I have to disagree a little bit, ee. “That segment” of the fan base is not happy until the next loss. Those miserable people are never, ever happy. If you won by 40, you should have won by 47. If you won in a blizzard of passes, you should have won grinding it out on the ground.

I summarize those folks by saying, “Some people are not happy unless they’re not happy.”

This. There were more people on Twitter yesterday berating the “fans” who were out there trolling about Stetson coming back than there were people trolling about Stetson coming back. I personally wish that nobody had paid them any attention, because the blowback was so huge that it actually catapulted the issue into the national conversation.

The vast majority of Bulldog fans, including most importantly the Hartman and Magill people, were all in on Kirby and understood that even if it didn’t happen in 2021 that it wasn’t our only shot at it. The vast majority of Bulldog fans are happy right now and are willing to trust Kirby to navigate through all the decisions that need to be made. In short, Twitter ain’t the real world and those who go to Twitter in an effort to understand ANYTHING whether it be sports or things that matter more are on a fool’s errand.

      • Another reason I deleted my Twitter account last year. The only thing I miss about Twitter is not seeing Kirby’s “GO DAWGS!” tweets after a commitment (and of course, the Senator’s replies to the college football self-appointed intelligentsia).

“As reigning national champion, Georgia will be getting everyone’s best shot in 2022. Kirby Smart is about to find out that it can be lonely at the top.”

Well, you never know what the “true fans” who are slandering Stetson on Twitter will say. I’m sure Kirby is tied up in their delusions as well.

And my “victory tour” continues today. Yesterday drove through Baton Rouge and ate dinner at the original Dreamlamd BBQ in Tuscaloosa with my UGA sweatshirt on. Got a whispered “Go Dawgs!” from a dad eating there. Another guy told me he was glad we beat Bama. Today we pass through (Ob)Knoxville. I’m sure we will stop to make sure they see my UGA gear.

Excellent, Russ! Make sure you have a smile on your face when you make them eat that G!

I had to take our little girl to Birmingham on Monday for a checkup at the the children’s hospital (broken leg suffered in an accident on New Year’s, but she’s doing just fine now!) and I wore my championship gear and several Alabama fans were very hurt by it.

Not a subscriber but I see Gee-off’s capri pants appear to be on fire. Doesn’t take calculus to figure that one out.

Gee-Off is on the hot seat down there at The NATS? You don’t say!

Com’n, not a single SEC hot seat? 🙂

Everyone got fired! But if they’re trying to tell me that Brian Harsin’s seat isn’t flaming hot then they obviously don’t talk to a lot of Auburn fans. Of course, Auburn is a basketball school now, so that might explain why they’re OK with the slide into mediocrity at Jordan-Hare.

      • FFS, most of those inbred folks wouldn’t know a 3-second violation from a goal-tending call. They just know it’s Auburn and they have to be pretty good right now so get the TP ready for Toomers!

  7. Screwed up the QB room. Got all the WRs injured in practice. Lost the SEC. Hasn’t recruited a single Heisman winner. C+ grade at best = Hot Seat.
