Hey, you know, Georgia may be alright in 2022. Just sayin’.
Independent of transfer portal additions, #SEC teams with the most returning players with a @PFF_College grade > 70.0 (min. 120 snaps):#Georgia – 17#Bama – 11#Auburn – 8#Florida – 8#LSU – 7#Arkansas – 6

When I went out to the Rose Bowl I remember eating at Nobu and looking out over the Pacific Ocean while it was 80 degrees in January and not a cloud in the sky, I thought to myself, you know, Randy Newman is full of shit:

I’m being told by LSU that this isn’t how you’re supposed to do things after a natty

I’m also being told by Bama fans that our championship is a one-off because we’re losing everybody.

It’s also been explained to me that even though we didn’t have a general QB, we had a “generational team” that we shouldn’t expect to see again anytime soon

Ignoring the portal could be the kiss of death – just saying.

What makes you think we are ignoring the portal?

My comment was meant to temper the fact that we have more returning starters than most, but our main rival has added multiple starters.

Well, I don’t think that anyone’s thinking next year’s just going to be simple because we some returning talent. However, with a few exceptions like Jermaine Burton, the majority of players who are in the transfer portal are there because they didn’t get enough playing time at their previous school. If Florida or whichever team you’re referring to there is stocking the depth chart with dudes who didn’t measure up the first time around or who are perhaps me-first guys unwilling to wait then I’ll remain more worried about Alabama and the other programs building their houses out of bricks. There are definitely also players in the portal who are true gems from the G-5 or D-2 who didn’t get recognized in high school, but, by and large I still give Georgia’s a puncher’s chance in the games we’re playing next season.

Bama is at the top of the list I was thinking about – great CB – great RB – potentially great WR.

The portal is definitely a game-changer. You may not recognize a team from one year to the next these days. I think it adds to the excitement but I fear it has the potential to get out of hand. Things sound great to start but give it time…it never fails, the rich get richer and the poor…you know the thing. The new NIL programs could grow to the point of needing a fix as well.

The only real concern from me in the returning production ranks is from coach Monken.

Yep, all that rotation pays off… It does cut down on the # of snaps and stats, but those kids leave Georgia healthier and ready for the next level and the next group up has more experience than say, I don’t know – Alabama?

This is going to be a fun season to watch…hopefully, stocked and healthy on the offense from the start of the season…with a hungry, aggressive defense that improves throughout 2022.
And if Monken stays…Kirby is stacking major talent as far as his asst coaches go…this 2022 team is going to have major swagger up and down the roster and among the staff.

We have four former Head Coaches as assistants !

Three of which were a combined 99 – 110 if I did the math correctly. I hope we don’t fall into the “too many cooks spoil the broth” group. That’s not to say they aren’t good to great assistant coaches and I’m happy to have them.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a great recruiting day and as we continue to add to the depth and talent pool.
The roster will continue to change as some leave in the portal and some arrive.
Do hope that Monken is still with us next year.
