The Athletic’s Max Olson goes back to re-rank the 2018 recruiting classes. Georgia, remember, finished first at the time. And now, with hindsight?
1. Georgia
You were expecting Florida there?
You should read the whole thing, but I’ll give you a little taste here.
- “No. 1-ranked classes make No. 1 finishes possible. Georgia signed seven five-stars, 12 of the top 100 nationally and five of the top six in-state recruits.”
- “Among the 18 signees who stayed in the program, 15 started more than 10 games.”
- “The success of Georgia’s 2018 recruiting class can be measured in so many other ways. But given where this program was when they arrived on campus, we can sum up their legacy like this: They got the job done.”
Amen to that.
Consider this your morning Dawg porn.
Those attrition numbers cited for each class are insane. Alabama at 48% attrition? Georgia at 36% seems almost low. Really eye opening to see that even the “GOAT” Nick Saban processed out nearly half that class.

“But given where this program was when they arrived on campus” Not sure what he is implying, but it sounds like he is saying the program was not in a good place. In reality, if it weren’t for a bunch of cheating refs we would have been National Champions when they arrived on campus.

I think all he meant by that was wandering in the national title wilderness for four decades.

We really need to sit that dude down and point him towards Knoxville and show him what wandering in the national title wilderness actually looks like. I’ll take Georgia’s previous 41 years, especially the last 20, over UT’s last last 24 or so any day.

I think that crew may have had some career advancement since:

Ray Charles could’ve seen that.

Was very reminiscent of a certain facemask no call in the 1st UGA-Bama NC game. Head almost gets twisted off, but no one can see it.

Isn’t it frustrating when the ONLY people watching the game who did not see the obvious 2 face mask penalties you referenced are the ONLY people in the world PAID to see the penalties.

Gaskill, they are in the same ballpark as the weather peeps! They still get paid even if they call it wrong every day!

I’m surprised Dre Swift hasn’t sent any chiropractor bills since that night to Nick Saban. That would probably be aggregated battery in most states.

I blame Tim Cook and Apple frequently. Can’t blame them this time. 😉

The number 4, number 13 and number 16 were interesting. The list was not about just acquiring the best high school players. The methodology acknowledged good work by coaching staffs for bringing out the best in players. MuLLLLLLen would have been number 1 with a bullet according to The Daily Gator this time last year, but wasn’t.

It will be interesting to look back in five years on A$M’s huge class from this year. Somehow, I don’t think they’ll be talking about the NC that A$M just won. More likely, it will be a “what happened to…” article. But I guess we’ll see.

I’m not of the ‘get off my lawn/weed and tatts crowd’ at all, but that much money in the hands of 18 year old with Jimbo at the helm is going to burn to the ground.

Crab legs are probably not as readily available in College Station as they are in Tallahassee. Probably will be a rack of ribs this time (it’s Texas so they will be beef not pork).

Beef ribs are huge,
hard to conceal them!!
I agree with mrmove.

Just another reason to choose pork ribs over beef ribs.

If you read the Olson article also check the the latest in the series by Seth focusing on Beal, Poole, and others who stayed and didn’t enter the portal. It’s good stuff.
