Getting what you pay for

Thought this was an interesting financial tidbit: “… Georgia’s Fran Brown is the highest-paid coach whose only official duty is to coach defensive backs.”

And it looks like, in just a couple of weeks on the job, he’s already having an effect.

It’s going to be interesting watching the money shuffle for Georgia’s assistants.  Kirby’s willing to pay top dollar for coaches who have a significant upside.  Some reallocation of funds was coming anyway, just on the basis of Lanning’s and Luke’s departures, and I expect that when the dust settles, we’ll see Todd Monken making some serious bank going forward.  (How forward remains to be seen, but as far as I’m concerned, Monken is welcome to stay in Athens for a long time.)

Kirby is demanding, but at least he pays well.

  1. I wonder if a few years of NIL will shift the emphasis from recruiting to coaching and player development

I know this will make your heart flutter Senator (as it should for all Dawgs). I am told that athletic board is working on approving a compensation package for Monken.

I know Brooks has plenty to do, but I’m not sure there’s anything more important than tying Monken down for as many years as we can. I also assume we’ll see Kirby get a raise and extension. Makes me more nervous as each day passes with both of these tasks waiting to happen.

  6. If only there was another sport where the team could get a share of a huge TV contract that goes with a fairly low bar of qualifying for an end of season tournament. Then the AD would have lots of cash to pay top coaches with.
