Go home, FPI. You’re drunk.

I don’t care what anyone says.  Preseason or not, any computer with a projection that has Auburn — Auburn! — as the nation’s tenth best team needs to be stripped down completely and re-programmed.

That being said, if I’m forced to take FPI seriously, it’s worth noting that it only finds four teams with better than a 10% chance of making the playoffs.  Look for that fun stat to make a steady appearance in opinion columns about Why We Need CFP Expansion NOW! near you.

Even more interesting to me, though, is that Georgia, despite being in a much tougher conference and having to factor co-existence with Alabama into the equation, is seen as having a significantly better chance of making and winning the playoffs than does Clemson.

After Clemson, not a single team is projected with more than 9.4 wins.

Texas with a 21% chance of making the playoff is as baffling to me as the Auburn ranking. I also think that OSU will either win the Big 10 or have a new coach in November.

Talk to me after Sept 10. Going to watch their spring game next Sat. Remember, 2nd year is usually a big leap for a new coach. Booger eater & all…..

Ok. If they are one of the last 4 teams I will be happy for them as it will make one of my best friends happy, will mean that Bama isn’t in, deny Oklahoma yet another undeserved shot and guarantee Georgia of a favorable 1 v. 4 match-up.

    I am glad I don’t understand FPI.
I am glad for AL to eat all of that rat poison.
I am glade that my school (UGA) is National Champ and will be until some one takes it away on the field, not in an online article that is guess work.

Of all the bullshirt “advanced” analytics in all the world… ESPN’s patented FPI is certainly one of them.

Hilarious that the Texas A&M recruiting class, in all of its glory, appears to project to a 7-5 record. I know it’s not fair to expect that those freshmen can come in and win a championship of some sort in year 1, but damn — to backslide? That’s Aggies in a nutshell.

    • Russ

Yeah, I figure 10 wins is their ceiling if they win the bowl game.

      • 86bone

After all of those ballyhooed freshmen spend a year on that militaristic campus there will be a mass exodus via the transfer portolet, hide behind that bush and watch!

*** >10% of making the finals, not just playoffs. but understood and agree, here comes the post spring expansion pieces ugh. And AU that high is hilarious. No we cannot take FPI seriously ever now.

If your rating system spits out Auburn as a Top 10 team in 2022 you need to unplug it and plug it back in. If the problem persists, put your rating system in a bag of rice overnight to dry it out.

Reprogram? Just rip it apart for scrap, it can’t be saved.

    GT #67 LOL
    Gators #25 more LOL
ND # 5 because Kelly is no longer the coach
Auburn #10 because Kelly is their coach

Well, you know poor ole Clemson is being victimized by this newfangled portal and all.

Auburn lives on roller coasters, it’s who they are & always have been. It’s not far fetched nor surprising based on their historical, year to year results as context.
