Kirby Smart, destroyer of memes

Between nuking the “Kirby cain’t develop players, PAWWWLLL!!!” narrative, as well as ending the snappy “1980” comeback fans of other programs so deeply enjoyed, as far as I’m concerned, Smart has already entered the ranks of coaching immortals.ย  As a bonus, he’s even managed to add the Metchie and Williams meme to our repertoire.ย  That’s doing the Lord’s work.

My only regret is that Dan Mullen isn’t around to see it.

Caught a little bit of Finebaum on SXM a couple of weeks ago. Guy from South Georgia called in trying to make the argument that Brewer would catch Georgia and pass them in two years. That Kirby couldn’t develop players, went on and on with excuse or reason why Kirby had been so successful. Paul had finally had enough of it and basically told him that he had been burned too many times with new UF coaches, so that was a wait and see. But if he thought Kirby was going away, he was kidding himself. And then spent some time talking about Georgia and Kirby and how that program was built to contend for aa very long time.

I think Paul has been educated, though he is convinced Bama wins it all next year.

    • Handbags donโ€™t get what Kirby has done. He has built the program on physicality, toughness and team first. Kirby knows you canโ€™t win with defense only in todayโ€™s game, but you can win big while being defense first. The fundamentals of the game havenโ€™t changed โ€ฆ teams that dominate the line of scrimmage, succeed on both sides in the red zone, and win the turnover battle win the games.

Thatโ€™s called complementary football โ€ฆ Kirby has built the program on those tenets.

  3. The thing about good memes is there are usually kernels of truth in them. Since 2017, no one can say there has been any truth to the meme that Kirby canโ€™t develop talent. By the way, I doubt Kirby would say itโ€™s his responsibility to develop every player on the roster. Itโ€™s his responsibility to hire the coordinators and assistant coaches who do the developing. Itโ€™s Kirbyโ€™s responsibility to build the culture, set the direction, and make corrections to achieve the desired result.

Another thing from last night was the glowing words Kirby said about Tray Scott.

And Jermaine Johnson went in the first round and Cade Mays went in the sixth. I doubt anyone here wants to claim Mays but Kirby and staff can credibly claim a good deal of credit for Johnson.

  6. This is proof positive to players that Kirby has his eye on the prize.

We have us a dynasty maker, somebody better start working on the marble base for the statue.

UGA even had their backups go in the draft (Tindall, Fitzgerald). Was there any draft eligible scholarship DAWG that did not get drafted? I can’t think of any?

My pal, Pontoon Boy, saw Cousin Eddie, formerly the Portal Master, aka Dan MuLLLLLet, on his dock on Lake Oconee screaming at Canada geese.
Heโ€™s still around, just not all there.

Next year, the DAWGS could wind up 14-1, lose in OT in the NC game, have only 3-4 first round picks and only 11-12 players drafted and finish with the #2 recruiting class. The Kirby critics will point out how he is losing it. How he lucked into the NC because of Metchie and Williams (had to get that in there somewhere to be complete). There is almost nothing he can do that will satisfy the small percentage of the naysayers out there (some of them who profess to be DAWG fans).

Someone handed Kirby a baseball bat and and old junk yard car and let him beat the ever living shit out of it.

The biggest challenge the program faces is how to put all those faces on the same poster

Instead of a poster, they may have to sell it as a billboard or at least wallpaper to have enough room

  14. We are so fucking good.

I seriously had to look up Fitzpatricks last nameโ€ฆ i was searching Fitzgerald.

We had our 4th string tight end drafted.

I mean, Mullen isn’t dead. I’m sure he sees what’s going on, he just can’t do much about it (not that he could before, either).
