“At the end of the day, we’ve got to win games.”

Georgia Tech’s athletic director’s not saying, he’s just saying, if you know what I mean.

Stansbury did not say there was a specific number of games that Tech has to win in order for Collins to continue into a fifth season, although his response made clear that the time has come for a better product on the field.

“Obviously, the main threshold is, we’ve got to get better,” Stansbury said. “Obviously, we’ve got to win more games. We’ve got to look like we’re making progress. But there’s not necessarily a magic number. But we definitely need to be making progress.”

In response, this may be the understatement of the decade:  “On paper, significant improvement won’t be easy.”

Stansbury, in looking at what Coach 404 hath wrought, must have some sort of X-ray vision, because he sees things nobody else sees (Coach 404 excepted, of course).

“Him being ‘my guy’ is he’s recruiting at an incredibly high level,” Stansbury said. “I know we’ve got to fill the pipeline to get there. He’s my guy because I’m seeing the building blocks of what needs to be done ultimately to get the wins that we need to get.”

Some fans might challenge Stansbury’s assessment of Collins’ recruiting. Since bringing in the No. 27 class (247Sports Composite) in 2020 – headlined by Gibbs – the next two classes have ranked 47th and 53rd.

“Some fans”.  It’s easy to understand why the excitement level on the Flats is on the rise.

So Collins or Harsin? Which one you got?

I think Harsin gets fired first. Barners are compulsive, impulsive psychos. One bad loss and he gone. Could be a blowout in Athens, maybe they punish him by making him stay and take the trip to the woodshed in Tuscaloosa. I’m thinking maybe it’s the LSU game, though. The LSU talent is better, and Kelly is a way better coach who will be looking to make a statement.

  3. I guess 3 years of branding hasn’t really worked out well for the nerds of North Avenue.

Kirby, it’s time for your beatdown masterpiece in Athens in November.

47th and 50th IS a high level of recruiting, compared to Fish Fry. It’s all a matter of presentation, n’est pas?

Stuck out to me too.. He’s done alright in the transfer portal; frankly it’s the only thing he can hang his hat on.

      According to 247.
      2022 – 53
      2021 – 43
      2020 – 28
      2019 – 53

And 2023 – not one commitment as of today. To be fair, he had his best class coming together last year; even better than 2020, but it fell apart as the teams season did. Notre Dame and Georgia games just destroyed any hope of holding that class together. If you need reminding – 55-0 to ND and 45-0 to Georgia, where they did not stop the clock int he 2nd half and where Georgia played everybody but the Tuba player in the 2nd half, in a game where it look like a Georgia home game at Marc Richt field.

They should probably just quit football altogether.

Tech doesn’t care about football. They should go find the best option coach they can find. I don’t see anyone being able to recruit there. As much as I hate us having to play against it. It does negate some talent discrepancies. We will still kick their ass every year but they can give enough ACC teams fits to squeak into a bowl most years with it. Bring fish fry out of retirement. Heh.

Not with you there bro… I’m not for anytime that teaches there linemen to cut you on every play.

      • argondawg

Oh i dont want to play against it. Im just saying they are gonna need to do something like that to be competitive.

Recruiting is nicely trending toward a soon to be reached crater.

Any day tech loses is a great day for America.

All the have to do is …”look like” they are making progress. 4 wins will look like progress.

If FSU doesn’t hire primetime – would the nerds take a flyer on #21? Although prime may see it as a step down from high school ball and Jax state to be the coach on the flats.
tech no longer has the boosters

When did they close stingtalk to members only again?

They do that periodically, only God and the fucking weirdo nerd who maintains the site know why. It’ll open up again eventually. Take it from a longtime lurker. Of all my guilty pleasures, lurking there is my guiltiest.

It makes for an easy pitch on the recruiting trail: “You could be the guy that finally gets me more than 3 wins in a season since I was at Temple in 2018.”

“27th class in 2020-headlined by Gibbs”
Gibbs?? That dude’s a gump wearing crimson, not a bubling bee wearing a piss colored uniform.
Run the numbers subtracting Gibbs and what do you have??

  14. “Obviously, we’ve got to win more games.” Even at an exalted engineering school, sometimes it just comes down to simple math…win “more”

Tuck Fech…has to be said…the Jacket-asses have fallen so far from their former glory…suck on that Bobby Dodd.

Geoff needs a lifetime appointment…name a waste treatment plant after him, but for the love of Fish Fry…keep that pudgy dude scattered, covered, smothered…he’s doing the Lord’s work.

It really is a magnificent time to be alive as a Dawg fan. We’re on top of the world while Tech, Auburn and Florida are all dumpster fires. May we beat all 3 this year a combined 150-0… I still wouldn’t be satisfied.

What I’ve enjoyed most over the past five years or so has obviously been Georgia’s ascent into very top of our sport. What I’ve enjoyed almost as much as been Georgia Tech’s further descent to the exact opposite. I’ll be angry forever about 2020 robbing us of an opportunity to hang 50 or 60 more up on them.

50 point win or bust in ’22. Just do it, already, Kirby.

  18. Geoff has to feel good knowing, though, that scoring even a field goal in his opener will be a marked improvement over their past two outings.
