You have to dial this clip up to the 24-minute mark to believe it.
Bryan Harsin’s at SEC Media Days, giving an impassioned take on what he’s been through in the offseason and answering questions about how his team is getting ready for his second season as head coach.
So, naturally, up then pops Mike Griffith to discuss Kirby’s expressed desire to move the Cocktail Party out of Jacksonville by asking Harsin to reflect on the Iron Bowl moving out of Birmingham to Auburn. In 1989.
Harsin was thirteen years old when that happened.
Sometimes, you’ve just got to respect the fixation. (Okay, this isn’t one of those times, but still…)
Bear Bryant had to die to get that game out of Birmingham. Early on when he was at Bama he said he’d never go to Auburn. He knew he could get away with it. Give Pat Dye credit for that change.
Related: Legion Field is a venerable dowager without the upper deck, still giving good service.

Is Legion Field still standing? I went to an Alabama high school championship game there in 2007 after the upper deck was condemned and I figured the rest of the place would be knocked down any day. With UAB’s shiny new stadium is there even any purpose for Legion Field anymore?

As a metaphor for the State, Legion Field is wholly accurate.

City politics have kept it alive. I don’t fully understand why, but it’s there. The Magic City Classic (between Alabama State and Alabama A&M) is still held there despite the new Protective Stadium.
The World Games just concluded here in Bham, and flag football (sponsored by the NFL) was held there, rather than the brand new stadium. No idea why.

It’s official. He’s an idiot.
Pat Dye wanted to move to a home and home because the Iron Bowl was more or less a home game, ran by Alabama fans, where Alabama has completed dominated the series. It had little to nothing to do with recruiting at home (which was very different verses today), and more to winning, which is the ultimate recruiting resource.

Exactly right. And the home cooking at Legion is legend.
Auburn was at a huge disadvantage there and it was nothing like the WLOCP. Pat Dye did the right thing.
Off the subject, but if Auburn can refrain themselves from their dumb-assed propensity to stab coaches in the back until dead ..Harsin might turn out to be a good one.

I doubt Birmingham was paying Auburn more than the game was worth at Jordan-Hare plus Legion Field was practically Bama’s home field in those years.
Other than that, it’s exactly the same.
Griffith is such a tool, and that’s an insult to home improvement items.

Georgia deserves better than the clowns that write for DawgNation. Griffith is a moron, and that’s being very kind to him. I don’t know what he hates worse, Jacksonville or Stetson Bennett. But at least he can write a coherent paragraph. It takes seven paragraphs or more in every Jeff Sentell story before he starts to actually get to his point – hey, buddy, pick one introductory paragraph and go with it. Don’t write every one that pops in your head. And then when he’s writing about someone actually making their college choice, he never actually says where the guy is committing. You have to figure it out by context clues! And we make fun of Mr. Conventional Wisdom over here, but when are we going to start busting on Connor Riley for being Mr. Things We All Read Three Days Ago?

“Yesterday, Kirby Smart talked about the importance of getting their home game back in Athens.”
WTF is he talking about? We’ve played Florida in Jacksonville in all but two years since 1933. Mike Griffith is an absolute embarrassment.

I just don’t understand why people say some journalists report with a personal bias.

Hopefully, someone in Alabama is doing something to help make whole the young lady that was thrown under the buss as an attempt to run the coach out of town. That situation was too orchestrated and she seemed like innocent collateral damage.

They can start by working to eradicate all of the content on the internet and then write the girl a nice “I’m sorry” check.

Maybe Mike Griffith has a deal like the Secretary of State on Idiocracy, “Brought to you by Carl’s Jr.”. He gets gets paid every time he mentions moving the WLOCP.
“It’s a really good way to make money.”

Mike G. is a fertilizer spreader and one of Finebum’s favorite guess. I guess I don’t understand the problem with Jax. We can’t host recruits at the game even when we are the home team? Is it an NCAA rule or SEC rule that’s stopping us? Would making it rotate between Atlanta and Jax solve the problem? Help me out here, I’m lost.

I didn’t care for Mike Griffith before his anti Jax campaign. Now I can’t stand him.

I’d like to say something decent – such as Mike Griffith is sincerely genuine in most of his takes. However, I simply cannot, bless his heart. The fact that he is the defacto UGA rep on Finebaum makes my toes curl. Thankfully, I do my best to avoid that show. Outside of Sentell, who I enjoy hearing speak, the DawgNation outfit is s-t-ruggling.

Yeah, he’s terrible on that show… Talks 90MPH and 1/2 the time, his ‘takes’ are wrong and he leaves out a LOT of facts.

I personally like the WLOCP just the way it is. However, having sat & watched Spurrier put 52 on us in 95, I would love a chance to return the favor in Athens & again in turdville. While rarely ever thinking of him anymore, that was the day I began to truly despise the old ball sack. Still can’t stand him. FTMFr!!!

Didn’t see the game in Athens but Gators put an AAAASS Whoopin’ on us in the Swamp. Don’t care where we beat ’em as long as we beat ’em.

Yes they did… 52-7 and it could have been worse.

I’m jonesing for some Dawg porn and Bluto’s taking a well earned break, so I went across the skreet to DawgNation. What do I see? Mike Fuckn Griffith with two of the first three articles of him getting his fixation on.
Previously I thought Kirby broadcasting his desire to move the WLOCP to home and home was a negotiating tactic. I’m beginning to believe his argument is sincere even though I disagree. I’m sure there’s also the ulterior motive of payback for the 52-17 bitch slap he received in Athens as a freshman at the hands of the Gators.
Griffith? I don’t know what his deal is. Maybe he’s try to curry favor with Kirby. More likely he has a restraining order barring him from J’ville for some past indescretion for obsessive behavior. He damn sure fits the profile.

Power was out at my house this weekend (still is, actually), so it’s not exactly my idea of “well earned”. 😉

Oh shit. It’s never convenient to be without electricity. This brutal heat without AC is rough.
You know, as I tell my clients when they say they can’t operate without my service, how long will you operate if you don’t pay Ga Power? I need my fuckn money.
