“And Georgia fans, don’t be turds. Enjoy this. Soak it up. It’s awesome. If you don’t win this year, it’s still not a failure. It’s a heck of a run. Back-to-back in the Playoff era hasn’t been done. So, to ask for a third I feel like it’s gluttonous. I feel like it’s not OK. But we’ll be in the mix.”-- David Pollack, On3.com, 5/9/23

On the one hand that height is a nice advantage to snag high passes. On the other hand it’s a disadvantage because he’s easy to hit low and bring down.
Anybody remember Morris Stroud with the Chiefs? Was about 6’10”. They stationed him in front of the crossbar on long field goal attempts to try and block them.

I remember Morris Stroud, from Griffin, Georgia.

UGA’s TE room: built different

I don’t often believe that an OC in CFB is capable of knowing how to effectively use and not waste a unicorn TE room…but when I do, he’s Todd Monken.

He is a monster. Emerson posted a picture of him on his Twitter feed dwarfing the UGA backdrop when doing an interview yesterday.
Our TE room is ridiculous. Talk about wan embarrassment of riches.

Opposition defense’s are glad “0” wears a uniform, knee pads, wrist bands plus socks on staurdays, cause seeing “0” looking like that at the line of scrimmage on any down, is down right scary…GO DAWGS!

I suspect Darnell’s role this year will largely be determined by how well the newly constructed offensive line gels.

Unless we are so bad at guard that McLendon or Jones spends a lot time helping inside, we are going to be fine. 0 is going to be a QB’s best friend … the TE who can be big target when things break down.

My doctor recently told me that I’ve reached an age (39) when I can’t realistically hope to add muscle mass, I can only lift weights to try and retain what (little) I have.
Womp womp.

Ummm, I’d get a second opinion on that. I’m pretty sure you can still get ripped. Maybe he means ‘with a wife, kids, and a full-time job, you likely won’t be able to find time to drag your ass to the gym’. 😏

When I was 35 Dr Fayette Mcelhannon told me whatever I was doing I needed to keep doing. At 37 he told me I needed to stop. Of course I was like some of the boys here and thought I knew more than a fuckn doctor. I’m paying for that at almost 62. My unsolicited advice is to listen to the guy with MD after his name.

We had a power forward built about like Darnell years back. I always wondered what it would have been like to see him on the field. I wonder no more.
I hope Washington has a great season.

Talking with a buddy yesterday (he is pretty well connected) he said Darnell is the best blocker on the team. There is a lot of talk about him adding weight and moving to tackle because of the $10 million salary difference in NFL tackles and TE’s. Darnell wants to be a TE in the league – doesn’t care about the $$ difference.

This chatter is not from the coaches but from former OL teammates and folks close to Darnell.

Guy McIntyre was moved from TE to Tackle in ‘82. It seemed to work out for him long term.
McIntyre not being in the NFL HOF shows how exclusive it is. That makes Richard Seymour’s induction even more special.

That’s amazing because I remember Brooks Austin talking about when DW was in high school he didn’t block anybody because they didn’t ask him to. Somebody coached him up!

I’m really happy that this man stayed on the team. I remember thinking that we’d regret losing him when there was chatter about him considering a transfer out in the offseason. Our tight end room is indeed ridiculous, but having him is certainly one of the reasons it’s a strength for this squad. Can’t wait to see what he does this fall.

He had 10 catches last year. Please let’s try to up that.
