  5. They’re concerned about slack-jawed hillbillies that can’t read? Shit, have they not met their head coach Jimbo Fisher?

Summer ‘81 at Advanced Camp at Ft Bragg I was basking in the glow of Georgia’s recent National Championship. Over beers we were talking about Herschel and my Citadel bud, Pete Utley brought up Stump Mitchell. I quizzically and non-sarcastically said, “Who?”
Pete was genuinely offended. I’m sorry. Being a backwards ass country fuck I barely knew what the fuckn Citadel was, much less anything about Stump. I just kept up with Georgia football. Never even heard of Dominique until he was on the Hawks. Seriously.
My next CO was a Citadel grad and was one of the finest officers I know. A real soldier. I found Citadel grads to be similar to West Point grads but with common sense and more class.
Last I heard Pete was a Major General. Fine Officer and gentleman and a good judge of bad liquor who knows that a quart of Maddog 20-20 doesn’t sit long on a quart of 100 proof Smirnoff.

I’m sure Maj. Gen. Utley learned that lesson at a Senior party…which for a $5 ticket you could bring a cooler full of whatever you wanted into County Hall to see any number of great bands (Mothers Finest, Swinging Medallion’s, etc.) Women came from Sweet Brier, Winthrop, Ashley Hall, etc) to Charleston like lemmings to the sea… Pete was from Elgin SC and was in T Co….

If Pete didn’t know it before, he knew it was a bad idea after watching me hurl purple puke on that pretty redhead’s shoes. I’ll chalk it up to things I won’t do again even if the liquor store is drunk walking distance.
Those $5 Senior parties sound like any night in Athens to include the same bands. The women were there already there.
            😉
            Good times!

        • RR, I graduated high school with Stump in 1977. I played Pony League ball with him and that’s how I learned exactly why he was called Stump. It was just like hitting one except worse. In 1980, Stump was the best running back in the state of South Carolina. The second best won the Heisman.

I went with a friend who is alumnus to see what yell was about when they played Clemson. The jokes were similar. Clemson beat them too. They did it at an area high school and a crowd of alumni showed up.

Pep rallies (even in high school) are dumb; 2) College pep rallies are another level of dumbness; 3) I googled and apparently attendance at Yell Practice is optional and not mandatory for freshmen, Corps of Cadets, etc. which leads me to 4) Other than drinking the The Dixie Chicken dry, there must be absolutely nothing to do in College Station.

My youngest is a first-semester freshman at App State. I sent her a link to this blog post, but the video was down by the time she read it. So she asked me what it was, and I told her, summarizing the A & M player’s comments, including the crack about the Mountaineers having two collective brain cells among them.

Her reply was priceless: ” We may have two collective brain cells, but we also have three extra points.”

LOL the best part of this video is the fact that A&M is having it taken down every it appears online for copyright violation. Looks like the Aggies are butthurt and embarrassed and don’t want their boasts to be remembered. But don’t worry, Jimbo, Pepperidge Farm remembers.
