A Vol and his money…

Should be interesting to see what happens when the big money sharks swoop in closer to game time.

Hopefully the old adage rings true… Are soon parted.

I do not follow the betting lines that close. But it seems I read that the majority of the betters were taking UTjr.; but the majority of the $$$ was taking the Dawgs – meaning the smart money. Nobody accused the average UT fan of being smart. Quite the opposite.

Sounds like a hard candy Christmas is a real possibility this year.

That’s a lot of money on one team. If I’m a UT fan that really makes me nervous.

If you were a vol fan you’d be too gotdam stupid to register on GTP and too ignorant, drunk and arrogant to be nervous.

    • I’ve never bet on a sporting event in my life, but knowing what I know about Vegas, it seems insane that they would set a line this large, knowing all the Tennessee money that would pour in, if they actually thought the Vols might come out on top.

Maybe I’m just trying to talk myself into a big Georgia victory, but the house always wins in the end, folks. Don’t ever forget it.

My understanding of the Vegas line is that it is an effort to split the money bet approximately 50/50, so Vegas can win the 10% of the total bet every game. That is obviously not happening here.

I for one, won’t be betting on the game. You know those laws of small particle physics that say you change the outcome of an event simply by observing it? Well, those same laws apply to me betting on CFB games. If I bet on UGA, I would be changing the outcome to a sure loss.

Knowing what we know about Tennessee and federal assistance, that’s a lot of government money being put down on the Vols.

If UT fans think they can actually win the game, the value is on the money line, last I saw was UT +220.

+8 is a huge number when all you know about the Vols is that they have a big shiny offense. I’m not surprised that the money is on the Vols. If it was still double digits, I’d even be tempted to bet them, but I think Georgia wins Saturday.

It amazes me how foolish people are. The only gambling I do occasionally is a friendly bet with a friend, acquaintance or co-worker for $5, $10 or $20; an amount that will not change my lifestyle or his or make us enemies. I saw on some post how you had to risk $1000 to win $96 & change on a spread bet of some sort. What sane person would do that knowing the crazy things that happen in a football game? The sports books operate the same way as a guy I played golf with a few times. He loved gambling but always engineered the bets his way. He always said that all I want is “a fair advantage.”

Agreed, ArmyDawg. I grew up playing nickel-dime poker with the boys. But I didn’t consider that gambling as I had control of my cards and avoided playing with sharps.
About 30 years ago I got into a game after I moved home at a place known as Dodge City outside Bowman, Ga. I was up about a grand, it was well after midnight and time for me to leave. The boys thought otherwise. I should give them a chance to win their money back they stated. They got a bit too hostile for my liking.
“Alright, we need to raise the stakes then. Let me go to my truck and get more money.”
I came back in with a “fair advantage”. A brand new Norinco Type 56(AK47). Took my money and left.
I think that’s the last time I played poker.

What kind of asshole threatens good honest Americans with a “fake” Russian gun?

Correct, Devil Dawg. This asshole. Yeah, they were Americans alright. They honestly earned that cash dealing drugs I’d imagine. I had unfolded that pig-sticker bayonet and would’ve just poked a couple of those old boys I went to school with. There were a few fellas I didn’t know and I figured they all had pocket pistols. My little brotherfromanuthamutha was there. He confirmed later they pulled ‘em out & talked shit after they knew I was gone.
As far as that “fake” Russian gun? Pre-ban the Chicoms were manufacturing and exporting some high quality, milled receiver AKs and SKSs damn cheap. Ammo was a nickel per round. They’re a lot of fun to plink with; but, they’re over gassed with loose tolerances. So they’re inaccurate and the bolt gives up the ghost after about 5,000 rounds. I got my money back on mine. Wish I’d’ve bought a storage container full of Type 56s and ammo. Can’t get either one now for that price. Plus those AKs scare all the hoplophobes and piss off the right people.
          Commie shit.

The line was originally around 11. With all the money coming in on UT you would thing it would fall more. Makes you wonder if it Vegas set it (and held it) to keep getting lopsided play on the Hillbillies. That’s good, right?

That was my first thought. If 90% of the money was going to one team you’d think Vegas would move the line to balance the betting. Maybe Vegas knows something and they are happy to let the inbreds lose this months trailer payment?

Minus the anomaly of whatever the hell is going on with Bama this year, the bottom line is that Tennessee has finally put some distance between themselves and the rest of the (mediocre?) league. How this so directly and suddenly compares straight-up with Georgia is beyond me. I simply cannot imagine the last time our secondary looked so clueless against ANYBODY as some of these teams who’ve played Tennessee. And, the “Georgia hasn’t played anybody” is just plain ludicrous. Tennessee has padded their stats (being used for comparison with Georgia) against
TN Martin, Ball State, and Akron!!! The passing yards Tennessee has given up this year per game is atrocious. Greg McElroy stated in his piece that he believes Georgia will shake off their lethargic inconsistencies and play their best, most complete game of the year. I absolutely agree. We are better than they are. We’re elite. This Saturday is our “G”lorious chance to prove it. Go Dawgs!!

If I rented a bunch of mobile homes to these Tn hillbillies I sure would be worried about getting paid next week!
I’ve paid tens of thousands of dollars to follow the Dawgs all over the country the last forty+ years, I sure as hell don’t have to put a bet down to loose big on this game! It will cost me way more than $
