TFW somebody tells you hope is the best of things

Sigh.

At least there’s more time between the SECCG and the CFP semis for hope.

  1. This makes no sense. He would have been better off breaking the damn thing.

I have read about high ankle sprains that yes, that can be the case….harder to recover from than an actual break.

Sprains and strains are unpredictable as to recovery time. It is common for a sprain or strain to hurt for months.
That is the challenge for people suffering soft tissue injuries from a wreck. The average juror has no idea about soft tissue injuries. A plaintiff could be hurting for months but she or he looks fine, so a lot of jurors think they are malingering.
What makes no sense is the idea that AD Mitchell is somehow maligering. If he hasn’t been able to play then he has a real injury.

4-5 weeks vs drawn out recovery. That said let him heal up right. I didn’t and can’t walk in the yard without rolling an ankle.

I know high ankle sprains are tough to recover from so Occam’s razor and all, but there has to be another reason right? Any doctors/PTs out there that can verify it could take this long to recover?

I worry about the obsessing over AD. If he does come back and doesn’t average 2 TDs and 100 yards in the playoff, it feels like we’re going to be disappointed. I know he’ll be valuable even if we dangle him like keys in the left hand while another WR makes catches in the right hand. Personally, I’d be satisfied to see another block like he had in the end zone during the Oregon game.

I fear he will only be able to contribute as Pickens did in the playoffs last year. But I think his presence will help loosen things up in the passing game.

I just read he will get 20+ snaps on the Junkyard. So all is good /s/

I’m guessing Kelly is not very trusting of anything Kirby is selling right now. Maybe he’s hoping Kirby’s not thinking about his attempts to poach a number of Georgia coaches including Monken when he got the LSU job. He did get Hankton. Just in case coach Kelly has not heard we run this state.

I’d be surprised if he didn’t get 5-10 snaps to get him game tested.

Frankly, I’m sick of having our only standout receiver hurt for the entire year, and hoping that a 3-week pause in play will be enough time for him to contribute come CFB TV Special time.

It looks like things may improve with the portal and ’23 WR crop, but Georgia has to develop receivers that can consistently create separation. Obviously it has not hurt us yet, but is it too much to ask for a few receivers of Mitchell/Pickens’ caliber? Gah Dawg!

Dom Blaylock, Rosemy Jack-Saint, Ladd, Brock, Big 0, Bell, Smith. We have receivers. Just need them to step up.

And Kearis Jackson. Problem is that other than Bowers and to an extent Washington simply because of the size matchup difficulty and Smith just based on his speed, no one is scared of (i.e. game planning around) those other guys. To what extent that is based on the players themselves, who is delivering the ball, or who is calling the plays I don’t know, but no DC is awake hours in the middle of the night about the WR group.

Wonder if Gilbert is going to show up.
He came to Georgia from LSU, right?

Kirby isn’t worried about getting him back, he’s letting everyone else worry about Mitchell.
    Apparently it’s been working.

  12. Didn’t TG3II have a high ankle sprain in the 2013 LSU game? He was back for the Florida game (and showed out). I’m guessing there are degrees of sprain, but this feels like it’s getting ridiculous.

When it comes to injuries Kirby is full of shit. AD Mitchell could be out for the season or getting 20+ reps and Kirby would say the exact same thing.

Yep. Kirby is a liar about injuries. I just accept it.

What duty does Kirby Smart owe to LSU to be truthful in public about player injuries? If Brian Kelly doesn’t know whether or not to prepare for Mitchell’s presence then that is great.

I didn’t say he did and don’t care that he does it. Don’t be so annoyed by what I say. My broadcast range is tiny. I’m no threat and nobody is listening to me.

I’m not 100% in favor of CFB getting into bed with Vegas like the NFL, but it sure would be nice if there were truthful injury reports like in the NFL and consequences for coaches and programs that were lying (fines and suspensions). A practice report each week (did not practice, limited in practice, full practice participation) and a game report each week on Friday (out, doubtful [25% chance of playing], questionable [50/50 chance of playing], or probable [everyone else that is available]).

A couple people will probably get pissy about this but it’s meant partially as a joke. AD Mitchell’s ankle sprain must be the worst in the history of ankle sprains. He must have got that sucker shot off in the war.

Everyone needs to keep in mind that even if AD Mitchell was able to play 70 plays tomorrow Kirby isn’t going to let Brian Kelly know.

  16. This is only a story because the Beat Writers insist on making it a story. I heard Jake (Rowe, who asked the question) talk about it earlier this week – that he knows Kirby gets frustrated with injury questions, but when you can’t find other things to ask about, that’s what you have to go back to.

And then the student Red and Black writer, Meadow, had the most pertinent question of the presser – asking about what kinds of things Kirby had said to his players in prep for this week.

There’s an extreme lack of Creativity on the UGA beat. I expect a “Stetson’s never beaten LSU – could this be the moment for Carson Beck?” article from Mike Griffith any minute now. Someone (Dash? Chip?) actually asked “what makes winning an SEC Championship game so difficult?”. Kirby had to laugh and start his response with something akin to ‘the other team is really good’. Not sure there’s much high-functioning curiosity here at the end of the season (if ever there was any).

AD is hurt until he isn’t – No use asking about it. It actually surprises me that writers burn a question on it. You get 1, maybe 2 moments with Kirby in a presser…that’s how you want to spend it?

If he trots out there and plays snaps, the question is moot. If he doesn’t, same.

    Go Dawgs

Have you ever heard Kirby say anything optimistic about the prospect of an injured player returning? I quit listening and just wait for it to happen. Until Mitchell came out onto the field last week, I just assumed we would never see him again.

If AD never plays another play for the Dawgs he will still be a DGD for the catch in the NCG last year. Woof!
