Still burns

Well, it’s been a couple of days since the CFP field was selected.  Maybe I should check in on the crowd at Roll Bama Roll to see if they’ve come to grips with reality…

Despite two of the top four teams losing their conference championship games, the CFP Committee bent to the will of the Twitter rage mob. In the first seven years of the playoff, the committee would thumb their nose at the critics. Now, we have a bunch of weak-willed wimps who are more concerned about handing out participation trophies over what is supposed to be “the four best teams”.

Uh, never mind.

Last I checked wins and losses are a pretty good indicator of how good you are.

To them it’s recruiting rankings. All those recruiting championships means Bama is one of the 4 best teams every year regardless of what happens on the field. “Only lost 2 games by 4 points” is this year’s Metchie and Williams. Next time it will be something else. God bless their little entiteld Bammer hearts.

Are we supposed to have sympathy for the most talented team in America with a Heisman winning QB… that lost two games and didn’t play in the conference championship?

Would they beat TCU? Probably. Did TCU lose a single game in overtime… while Alabama rested up and watched on TV? Yeah.

I respect advanced metrics and I do believe in the best teams playing, but there’s got to be a line somewhere. What if they lost to Auburn? They’d still be favored versus TCU. What if the also lost to, say, Arkansas? Probably still be favored.

Bama’s asking for a pass because they’re talented. Recruiting National Championships get you players to go win real National Championships, but they’re otherwise meaningless, and they should be.

You know who else is talented? And might be favored against TCU? Texas A&M.

Win your games, Bammers. The just-show-up crap doesn’t start til 2024, mark your calendars.

Well said. In the past I have gotten worked about whether or not the playoff includes “the four best teams.” TCU beat Texas with Ewers playing by a TD. Bama beat Texas by 1 without Ewers playing most of the game. And Bama would still be favored against TCU. But as you pointed out, at some point there has to be a line.

      I don’t think they’d beat TCU.
I think Bama is soft and a program in decline.
They’re scrambling around over there, resorting to begging for favor, distorting their records to point to near wins and ignoring near losses. Saban embarrassing himself by begging to get favor over a team that has clearly had the better season and is at least Bama’s equal.
Bama fans are outright saying that we (UGA fans) should thank Saban for training up Kirby. I think it’s the other way around. Since Kirby left, Bama’s been slowly but surely weakening.
Gumps are that entitled, though. They want to claim Kirby’s success as if it is a Bama accomplishment.

I had a probably 60 yr old man at a christmas party last friday tell me without mincing words that they’re coming for Kirby when Saban retires. (eye roll)

It wasn’t a hostile conversation or anything….it was more him complimenting Kirby and saying “we WANT HIM SOOO BAD.” I did tell him as big of a brand that Bama is, (a) he’s not going to leave Georgia. Period and (b) we probably have more money if push really came to shove. He didn’t believe me on the money part but I stand by it !

Saban has a history of stumping when it is necessary but in contrast to 2011 and 2017 he really didn’t have a good argument on his latest argument.
It is hard to call for the decline but if they take 20 something transfers and aren’t back in the mix next year then I will say that the end is nigh for the dynasty.
It’s going to be interesting to watch that team next year with a new QB (maybe the kid from UNC) play with all new WRs, OL and coordinator’s.

Yes, how dare they take 12-1 TCU or 11-1 Ohio State, teams that couldn’t even win their conferences, when they could’ve taken 10-2 Alabama, a team that also couldn’t win its conference.

Ahhh, yes. Alabama missed the playoff because of wokeness. Gotcha.

Maybe if Nick Saban woke his ass up in the last minute of the Tennessee game and ran the damn football to burn UT’s timeouts and run out the clock before missing his field goal then Alexandria Occasio Cortez wouldn’t have been able to force the CFP committee to leave out the deserving champions from Tuscaloosa or whatever it is these morons think happened.

Bama has been wildly successful well before Saban, but especially since he arrived. Their fanbase, however, is destined to be miserable unless they win the Natty. Even then, it’s not enough because of their hard-wired sense of entitlement. I hope our present and future success doesn’t ruin us as well.

I’m sure that had nothing to do with it, though. Twitter and ESPN hate Bama which is why they’ve let their players and Saban come on their fucking show to plead and beg. Jfc

  23. All we heard from ESPN and many CFB fans in the preseason and early season was how Bama would return to their rightful throne and how the Dawgs would regress to the mean. Then Tennessee beat Bama and we heard it about them. Now they’re both playing in the Fuck Off Bowls and they’re all of a sudden victims. I already knew Auburn and Bama had the passive- aggressive thing down but I guess we can add Tennessee. They all suck and I’m loving it.

Exactly. All pre-season literally every pundit was heralding this Bama squad as Saban’s most talented team ever, that was going to wipe the floor with everyone, including us. Then week 2 they barely beat a hobbled Texas squad. One of the most enjoyable parts of this season was proving every blowhard who predicted we’d regress wrong.

Stetson going to NYC has really triggered the Vols. Not only did we here about rain and neutral sites after whipping their asses, but now they conveniently forget that while it was time to make hay before the rain came…….STETSON LIT THEIR ASS UP like a Christmas tree…..on the ground and through the air.

They are literally beside themselves angry that we’re enjoying the party they already ordered catering for.

Tennessee has always thought they were better than they were. I’ve got a Marine buddy who is from Memphis and he talked so dam much shit before the Tennessee game in ‘17. When it came time to can Booch he started saying crazy shit about John Gruden and what not. He told me, “See this is Tennessee. We don’t have to settle for a Saban coordinator.” Then they hired Orange Neck.

Love the logic of Bama fans that a team that played in their conference championship game and in doing so picked up their only loss should be left out for them: a team that didn’t even make their Conference Championship game and had two losses.

    • Samford could have lost to Furman (I was at the game). They got the benefit of one of the weirdest uses of replay I’ve seen when Furman had them on the ropes. Samford and Furman were definitely the class on the SoCon this year. Furman gave Clemson a better game than Fech did. I hope the Bulldogs take down NDSU this weekend.

It’s amazing how the criteria of not winning your division or having 2 losses that have negatively affected UGA teams in regards to playing for a championship in the BCS era (2007 UGA vs 2011 Bama) or getting into the final 4 of the CFP (2018 UGA vs 2017 Bama) never applied to Alabama. This is the first time that they’ve ever been told “no”, so the wailing and gnashing of teeth is both understandable and delicious. Next we’re going to hear the same sad Mullen bowl loss excuse of “A lot of the guys who were out there playing tonight were on the scout team most of the year.”

Reading it was like watching a 12 car pileup outside Anniston. Screeches and wails from the sourest and whiniest fane base in all of college football make you wonder what in hell do they do with their lives between January and August. With their players hitting the portal or otherwise opting out of the Sugar Bowl, they had better hope they bring at least the effort that our short handed 2020 outfit did against Cincinnati, or they’re liable to get run out of the stadium and into the river.

Bama has two fewer wins than TCU, more losses than TCU, and Bama’s best ranked win was the same team (in the same stadium) as TCU’s 2nd best win. For added fun, TCU won that game by more points. Bama also lost to a worse ranked team than TCU did.

Ohio State has one more win than TCU and one fewer loss. Ohio State’s best win is against #11, Bama’s best win is against #20. Ohio State also beat #11 by more than Bama beat #20. Ohio State lost to the #2 team, Bama lost to #6 and #17.

The dirty little secret this year is that the SEC West just wasn’t that good. After Bama there isn’t a single other top 15 team, and only two top 25 teams. The East was better (9-6 head to head), same number of ranked teams but with a better average ranking.

I think Bama fans are just in uncharted territory. Since 2008 every time they have lost to an SEC team they have either gotten a revenge win or a National Title within @16 months. Without the opportunity this year it will be the longest time the fanbase has gone having to look up at another SEC program.
