Kudos to Pat Forde for saying in a national publication what we were all thinking:
Former Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge referred to Bennett as “a punk” on a Knoxville radio station this week, perhaps embittered because his decent college career from 2004 to ’07 suffers by comparison.
Also, bonus points for noting that if Georgia wins Monday night, Stetson will have quarterbacked two national championship winners, something that Tim Tebow didn’t manage. We might need to come up with a snappy anagram for him if that comes to pass.
How about Erik’s daddy?

There’s been an odd, recency-bias-fueled rush this week to declare that SHOULD Stet lead Georgia to a win on Monday, he would then be the Greatest Player in Georgia Ever Had (G-PIGEH?).
While I’m all for adding him to the Georgia Football Player Mount Rushmore even right now (sorry Pollack, but it’s Sinkwich, Trippi, Walker, and Bennett, now), that above is just insane to me.
Herschel Walker isn’t just the greatest Georgia player ever, he’s on the short list for the greatest college football player of all time. For some people, he IS the list.
I’m all for retiring Bennett’s number. He deserves a statue just as assuredly as Sinkwich, Trippi, and Walker all deserve statues. But Bennett isn’t the greatest we ever had. I don’t think this is a controversial statement, is it?

Obviously a lot of this depends on Monday night but if we win, I think Bennett is the greatest bulldog in terms of TEAM accomplishments at Georgia. Yes Herschel is the greatest college football player of all time in terms of abilities but a player who led Georgia to back to back titles against arguably tougher competition has the better resume. Yes I realize a lot of this is splitting hairs and nuance in some extremely rarified air.

I mean, I get the distinction you’re trying to make, but to me the difference is, when talking about our greatest football player ever, it needs to be a combination of all the things. The team accomplishments he helped to create, the individual talent, the awards, all of it. I’ve been done for quite some time thinking Stetson is a “game-manager.” He’s a great college quarterback. GREAT.
But he’s not Herschel Walker.

For me I think one important distinction is that Herschel had much less of a supporting cast than Stetson’s had. And while both Herschel and Stet put the Georgia program “on the map,” so to speak, the program Stetson inherited was one that was already churning out 10-win seasons and competing for SEC titles, while the one Herschel joined in 1980 really wasn’t anywhere near that level (notwithstanding the great work Dooley did bringing the program out of its relative trough in the ’50s and early ’60s).
So I’d call Herschel “the greatest” based on his physical talents and historical significance to the program. But Stet deserves to be right there alongside him in the UGA and CFB halls of fame.

“Back in Blackshear, they’re readying for the final scene in their own small-town drama. The message board out front of Blackshear Elementary School this week reads:
Priority Mail to L.A.
Mailman’s Final Delivery”
Holy moly I love that!

Erik hatin’ because he knows Stetson’s already won more playoff games than Tennessee ever will as a program. Does Erik even know the seccg isn’t played in the Georgia dome anymore? It’s been that long since tennesse fluked into an appearance.

If he wins with another MVP performance he’ll probably be the most decorated playoff player ever.
Four games played four MVPs and undefeated in NC games. That’s a pretty high bar by any measure.

Stetson already has a acronym of uga lore/legends:
DGD
Those 3 letters are all we would ever want or would ever need out of any player in our program.

Erik, you ignorant slut!
SBIV likely makes considerably more $$ via NIL than Ainge does as an employee at a Knoxville radio station.

My favorite is that Erik tried yesterday on the radio to walk his comments back saying that it probably wasn’t right to call Stetson a punk and what he really meant was that Stetson has become unlikable because of his antics (phone fingers, mic drop, etc.). Whatever. What yesterday meant is that Erik had no clue that what he said Wednesday would not only explode on social media but lead to a lot of unwanted and unexpected criticism of Erik including people dragging Erik, who is and was a douchebag, for saying shit about someone who is far more accomplished than Erik ever was.

Odd to me that people have such a problem with Stetson’s personality or what they perceive his personality to be. They want him to act like he’s just happy to be there and almost self conscious and apologetic for it. Why? Why should he? The phone thing was in response to Tennessee’s fans and lots of guys have done that same thing. The mic drop was in response to the relentless criticism regardless of how well he plays. If they are triggered by that it just means they don’t believe their own bullshit about him so it hurts their feelings to be made fools of or they do believe it and the cognitive dissonance is more than their social media addled brains can handle.

If Aaron Murray thinks you’re “the best quarterback in Georgia history”, you must be doing something right.
And I’ve really enjoyed hearing Blackshear mentioned over and over again these past few years. I don’t get back there often enough.

Will the Stetson story be a movie or a Netflix style bio-doc? Seems like too much to pack into a couple of hours.

Personality, I feel like Ainge is just trying to bankroll off the attention he got when he talked out of his ass about Georgia earlier in the season. It’s probably the most action he’s gotten.
