“It’s crazy what some kids are asking for.”

Honestly, I’m trying to picture this scene and I’m having a hard time doing it, because I’m laughing so hard.

When asked about the portal, Curtis confirmed that Saban said this: “We lost 10 players and one starter to the portal this year. One of them wanted $500,000 and for us to get his girlfriend into law school at Alabama and pay for it. I showed him the door.”

Can you imagine having the stones to stroll into Saban’s office and demand that he get your girlfriend into law school?  I mean, Bryce Young, maybe.  But someone off of that offensive line?

I do not trust anything Saban says about NIL. It is all about a recruiting edge and/ or setting up an excuse.
It started when he was talking with the high school association and brought up the NIL money that Bryce was getting, them the a& m spat, now this.

Thank you, Jim. The NCAA rules permit players to monetize their names, images and likenesses but the rule prohibits the universities from participating in the sale and purchasing of NIL rights. Also, the Alabama state NIL law does not allow coaches to be involved in sale and purchase of NIL rights.
Do we really think Saban violated NCAA rules and admitted to it at a HS coaches meeting?
I think he was bullshitting to make a point about his dislike of players making good money of their NIL.

Sure. I think you’ve forgotten what the “collective” does.

The collective is supposed to be the middle man between the school and the player. If I believed what Saban said then Saban was eliminating the middle man.

I dud not say he violated any rules. He told them, believe it was the Texas he coaches, thst Bryce Young had six figure Nil deals. This was the year before the Fisher spat.
He was indirectly saying , come to Bama and you will be ok. He knew exactly what he was saying and doing.
He us as satimonious as Freeze, just smoother

I did not post that Saban actually violated any rules. I agreed with you that he was bullshitting and my reason is that I do not believe he is actually violating any rules and that his admission of behavior which would be a violation was bullshit.

            Gaskilldawg,
I will post that Saban DID violate rules.
If what he said is true.
It does not matter because the NCAA ain’t going to do a damn thing about it.
Look at Tenn.. They broke rules and not a damn word from the NCAA.

Maybe the old bastard shouldn’t have bragged about it on TV a while back. Karma pays back with interest.

Saban saying he has lost 10 players to the portal ……just in 2023 over the last 30 days.

But he’s lost 25+ total players over the last 120 days going back to October.

Best wishes this year to the Captain of the Red Oktober.

  6. Sounds like a kid who was already leaving but tossed a Hail Mary. I mean, it’s not like some other coach is gonna say “Sure, I’ll get your girl into Bama Law if you come play for A&M.”

    Well, maybe a bad example…

  7. BS story. Football player with a girlfriend that wants into law school? Fashion school maybe. But I would check the latest admissions to Ole Miss Law just to see.

You are overestimating the academic requirements to be admitted to the University of Mississippi School of Law. The bottom of the class will be right around a 3.0 or less

Interesting. There are a couple of lawyers in my circuit whose sons are recent graduates of Ole Miss law school
I wondered why they went there.

The first thing to understand about law school admissions is there are way too many law school seats that need to be filled.

Same is true w/ PhD programs. Everybody in every academic dept. wants to be on the graduate faculty. So every dept. admits enough applicants to ensure that there are enough takers to ensure that the members of the graduate faculty don’t have to stoop to teaching undergrads.

    • Just to be clear, I was taking a shot at Kiffen being more than willing to accept that deal, not a shot at the fine law school at OM. Not that I’m above it, but I would be harsher. 🤣

Maybe bitching about player’s NIL compensation isn’t a good look for a coach who has a clause stating he’ll always be one of the 3 highest paid HCs in cfb.

The player’s ask is crazy, but the story is also coming from someone who bragged about his QB getting a million bucks in NIL deals. If you want to brag about how much money you’re throwing around as a recruiting boost, don’t be surprised when you get some undesirable characters showing up just to see what they can get. Also, Nick please tell us what you would like the NCAA to do to regulate NIL that isn’t blatantly illegal. Saban’s going to have to make time for this shit. Maybe he should ask Kirby for advice. Seems like Kirby has figured out how to build a successful program in the NIL era. Or maybe this really is the beginning of the end for the old GOAT.
