I like the way Tommy Rees’ latest career choice is framed in this article ($$).

Now Rees may be these multitudes all over again after accepting Saban’s offer to join the sport’s preeminent program, or perhaps one working to retake Georgia following Kirby Smart’s back-to-back-national championships…

An industry source told The Athletic that Rees had eyed this shot at the sport’s summit a year ago when Notre Dame promoted Marcus Freeman from defensive coordinator to head coach. Rees wanted to be considered for that job more than he ultimately was, which spurred him to figure out how he could be in better position next time around. Two programs came to mind for Rees. The one that just hired him and the one he’s been hired to beat in the SEC Championship Game.

Looks like both Saban and Rees had to settle.

Tommy Rees thinking he deserved consideration to be the head coach at the University of Notre Dame means that he’s delusional enough to fit right in with Erik Evans and all of the rest of the grounded, reasonable people of the Alabama fan base.

That’s hilarious that he thought he could be Georgia’s OC.

He’s another Chaney-Coley. Kirby Time has moved beyond the Chaney-Coleys of the world.

Wow, only 30 years old?! I’ll give him credit for moving up as fast as anyone we’ve seen in a long time.

The age thing might not over well with other bama assistants who are older and figured they paid their dues for an advancement opportunity.

We shall see, but Notre Dame fans were hardly unhappy upon his departure.

    Isn’t he like 30?

I guess it makes sense to get out if the HC knows your dream is to have his job.

Better to see if one day you get to post 60 in a playoff game on Freeman’s, and ND’s, pretenders to the throne and get the fan base clamoring for your triumphant return.

Rees may very well come out of the gate with his hair on fire, but until I see it, color me as unimpressed with that particular hire in T-Town.

Am remembering back to the press conference where an old, decrepit, crazy sounding Al Davis fired Kiffen, and am imagining Saban having a howler like that when he fires Rees!

  9. Kiffen is making no apologies for lavishing praise on Saban via Twitter, to the point his own fanbase is feeling snubbed. You’d think Junior would figure-out that actually beating Bama would get him better consideration. I’m thinking this year is his last…and maybe best…chance to pull-off the upset and embarrass this new pretender to the throne.
