Chomp on this one

While this isn’t an entirely fair comparison due to the implementation of the CFP, that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the shit out of seeing it.

I’d love to hear somebody ask Spurrier what he thinks about that.  It sure makes up for a lot of 3-18 trashtalking.

Someone in the replies to the tweet made a great point to counter your point about the Playoff, Senator:

If Spurrier were playing by BCS rules, he doesn’t even have ONE National Title. Arizona State, not FU, would have played the Seminoles for the National Title in 1996.

It was that fact, and Penn State being left out in 1994, why the BCS was formed in the first place.

    • I thought it was BYU’s 1984 natty that ultimately led to the BCS.

I think it was all steps, right? Like, BYU’s national title in 1984 ultimately led to the Bowl Alliance with the B1G and Pac-10 thumbed their noses at because of the Rose Bowl refused to join, but then Penn State going undefeated in 1994 but not being allowed to play for a National Title and then Arizona State not being allowed to play for one in 1996 led to the BCS. And then Bama and LSU playing for the National Title in 2011 led to the Playoff and then Bama and Georgia twice getting into the Playoff in the same seasons while the Pac-12, B1G, and Big-12 have been left out led to the insane 12-game expanded Playoff (it should have been 8, but whatever).

SOS would undoubtedly say “Ok, ok, all Kirby has done is copy what Nick has done at AL, I had to do it all on my own, Georgia has always gotten all those great players and it didn’t matter much to me.”

Just watched Kirby speaking to the Middle GA Football group. He may be running low on motivation with the “eating off the floor” thing. Hopefully, our guys are now professional enough to teach the younger players that if they slack off there are 3 other guys waiting to take your place. The culture is built, it now just has to be enforced by the upper classmen.

I never thought I would say this but I have mellowed somewhat on SOS. Ten or more years ago if I had seen him in person, I would have tried to kick him in the nuts. Now, not so much. I even mostly enjoy his commentary.

SOS got TCU’d in his first one. Lucked up the next year when ASU couldn’t hold a lead late.

I guess the CKS = CMR has faded away…

Still need to whip bama in Atlanta come December. Should they qualify of course.

He would just quip about his # of SEC championships & his record over UGA.

He and Dooley have the same basic everything, and Kirby has pretty much surpassed them both except for number of SEC Titles. So it’s not like we can’t throw that in his face.

While the euphoria of our recent successes keeps a smile on my face, I will never forget the feelings of despair during that two decade period

Spurrier never had an undefeated season either.

It makes me feel old to see Spurrier fade down the leaderboard. In his heyday, he looked poised to make us all forget about Bryant. And now he’s basically Dooley — one less natty appearance and a few more SECCs. I don’t mean to damn either with faint praise — both coaches put their programs on the map of national powers. Maybe it’s more a commentary of how drastically the game has changed over the last 20 years.

Not only that, but Kirby has the better visor. Spurrier’s a wit but he can still KMA. Screw Florida.

I think I’d argue it’s harder to play for a natty now then it was before the CFP was implemented. You have to play an extra game now, right?

  17. Many have said Kirby is our Spurrier. The hatred for the Handbags running through his veins has its start in our failures in Jacksonville. I’m guessing he wakes up every day thinking what do we have to do to put them in our rear view mirror for the next 20+ years.

Funny…. I think the past few years makes it easier to forget all the close and incredibly bad outcomes (e.g. 2012/2018 Championship Games, 2017 Natty). But, those annual and repeated beatdowns by Florida (and UT) will keep Larry on my shoulder to I die!

I’m going to smile occasionally at Steve Spurrier as I age. May he never forget George Patton and Bill Stanfill, and may he wind up with Irish Alzheimers, forgetting everything except his grudges, and be 100 years old and making digs at Georgia.

Screw SOS. It’s easy to be brash when you’re young and docile when you get older. I hope UGA fans everywhere remind him of what a tool he was (to everyone, not just us) for the rest of his life. Then when he dies, we’re going to have a gif party and play that one clip where he’s up in the box in 2017 watching us bend their whole team over a chair for 60 minutes – while he shakes his head in disgust. #FTMF
